is it possible to recover LVM drive from accidental Fdisk?
Hi all, Does anyone know if it's possible to recover an LVM partition from a drive that was fdisked? I accidently fdisk'd the wrong drive (had to fdisk a lot of 160GB drivers from old servers and one still has important data on that client now wants) by running fdisk /dev/sdc & deleting the partitions. The drive is still in a another machine and hasn't been rebooted yet, but

Active/Passive Samba Cluster for Shared NFS Backend
Hello, I am working on setting up an Active/Passive Samba cluster on Ubuntu 14.04 using Samba 4.1.6. Samba will be sharing an NFS mount so that it can be accessible to CIFS clients. Thus, the server setup is as follows: -- cifs0 -- / \ / \ NFS_Server VIP --- CIFS clients \ / \ /

Recover a deleted message in MDBOX format ?
Hello Every night a backup of all mailboxes is performed to a NFS mounted partition All our mailboxes are now in MDBOX format. I wonder how it would be possible to recover one email accidentally deleted by a user ? It was easy in MBOX format to extract and save it using mutt ( as root ) from the backuped mbox then re-copy it to the user's mbox. Of course I should access to the backup

Hi all, I lost my storage because rpool don''t boot. I try to recover, but opensolaris says to "destroy and re-create". how to restore deleted directory/files
Hi, Thanks for your reply. The file system type is xfs. And I found xfsdump/xfsrestore can undo the remove. I use dd to copy the partition as one image file. How do I mount the image as read-only device? Then I can try to recover the deleted files/directory anytime. Thanks! Salvage or undelete files of damaged ext2/ext3 file systems
Hi! I have made some extensions to debugfs to undelete or recover files from a damaged ext3 file system. Salvage or undelete files of damaged ext2/ext3 file systems debugfs salvage command can be used to salvage files from a damaged ext3 or ext2 file system. The code is alpha, so use at your own risk. the usage is: salvage first-block count-blocks Salvage tries to salvage files found in

recover user error
ZFS claims that it can recover user error such as accidentally deleting of files. How does it work? Does it only work for mirrored or RAID-Z pool? What is the command to perform the task? Also for COW, I understand that during the transaction (while data is been undated), ZFS keeps a copy of the previous data. However, once the transaction is successfully completed, isn''t it the case

Recover data from detached ZFS mirror
I''ve detached disk from a mirrored zpool using "zpool detach" (not "zpool split") command. Is it possible to recover data from that disk? If yes, how? (and how to make it bootable) -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Recover files from overwritten zpool?
To make a long story short, after a Solaris reinstall I needed to access a disk from the previous install. I realize now I should have done a zpool import, but instead I recreated the pool, thinking this would bring my file system back. I destroyed the new pool, but other than that I have done nothing to overwrite data. Is it possible to recover the data from the old pool? --Stig

rpool recover not using zfs send/receive
Is it possible to recover the rpool with only a tar/star archive of the root filesystem? I have used the zfs send/receive methods and that work without a problem. What I am trying to do is recreate the rpool and underlying zfs filesystems (rpool/ROOT, rpool/s10_uXXXXXX, rpool/dump, rpool/swap, rpool/export, and rpool/export/home). I then mount the pool at a alternate root and restore the tar

If you don't have backups, then you're pretty much out of luck. Don't forget to back up any data that is important, and test your backups regularly! Depending on the filesystem, there might be ways to

RE: Recover disk space after deletion files in CitrixXenserver
There is unfortunately no current (stable/reasonable) way to make an existing filesystem image sparse without jumping through some hoops. Pretty much any of the variants I''ve seen will require you to have as much (or more) free disk space as there is data on the disk image. A twist on Mark''s idea to tar it and create a new virtual machine is this. This

Any way to recover deleted files on ext3?
I am trying in vain to discover any way to undelete a deleted directory on a ext3 filesystem. I have followed the recommended steps of immediately unmounting the file system containing the directory and remounting it as read-only, but have no luck: debugfs indicates no deleted inodes. If there is no disk activity following the incident, how can the data disappear? Any and all suggestions would
