Checksum errors on and after resilver
Hi all,
I recently experienced a disk failure on my home server and observed checksum errors while resilvering the pool and on the first scrub after the resilver had completed. Now everything seems fine but I''m posting this to get help with calming my nerves and detect any possible future faults.
Lets start with some specs.

B62 AHCI and ZFS
Hardware Supermicro X7DAE (AHCI BIOS) dual Intel Woodcrest processors, 6 x Western Digital Raptor SATA drives.
I have installed b62 running 64 bit succesfully on a PATA drive. The BIOS is configured to access the SATA drives in native mode using hte AHCI Bios.
I have 6 SATA II drives accessed via the Solaris AHCI driver. I have created a ZFS file system across all 6 drives. This works fine until

Pool faulted in a bad way
Hello,
I have been asked to take a look at at poll on a old OSOL 2009.06 host. It have been left unattended for a long time and it was found in a FAULTED state. Two of the disks in the raildz2 pool seems to have failed, one have been replaced by a spare, the other one is UNAVAIL. The machine was restarted and the damaged disks was removed to make it possible to access the pool without it hanging

Option iommu=1 causes hypervisor to start debugger
Hi,
In changeset 19130:c8962b24fb50, when using iommu=1, it goes into the
hypervisor debugger. Why is this so? Thanks.

[LLVMdev] Error when building tutorial example
Hi all,
I'm a new user to LLVM. Not really sure if this is the correct place
to post, since there isn't really any other forums around. Anyway, the
issue I'm encountering is that, I was trying out the first tutorial
(http://llvm.org/docs/tutorial/JITTutorial1.html). I attempted to do
this in another folder that was copied from llvm/projects/sample. I
created a new folder called

Trouble enabling VT-D: "I/O virtualisation disabled"
I have a chipset which supports VT-d (Intel X58) and, according to my
motherboard manufacturers, VT-d is enabled in the BIOS and listed as "Intel
VT." The problem is that xm dmesg shows "I/O virtualisation disabled" and I
get this error message when I try to create a domU with a pci device

Mapping pci resources for graphics passthrough
Hi all,
I''ve been trying to understand the pci_setup function in hvmloader.c in Xen
unstable. I''m kinda lost at Line 328.
base = (resource->base + bar_sz - 1) & ~(bar_sz - 1)
I''d appreciate if someone could explain to me why base is calculated this
way. Specifically, I don''t understand the bitwise AND with the one''s

Messed up zpool (double device label)
Hi!
I tried to add an other FiweFire Drive to my existing four devices but it turned out, that the OpenSolaris IEEE1394 support doen''t seem to be well-engineered.
After not recognizing the new device and exporting and importing the existing zpool, I get this zpool status:
pool: tank
state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or

Best practice for full stystem backup - equivelent of ufsdump/ufsrestore
I''m looking for a way to backup my entire system, the rpool zfs pool to an external HDD so that it can be recovered in full if the internal HDD fails. Previously with Solaris 10 using UFS I would use ufsdump and ufsrestore, which worked so well, I was very confident with it. Now ZFS doesn''t have an exact replacement of this so I need to find a best practice to replace it.

usb ups on openindiana
Hello all,
I am trying to set up my brother's UPS (remotely over internet)
on an OpenIndiana-based storage box. According to him, the UPS is
probably an Ippon Back Power Pro 600 dated around 2003 (battery
recently replaced), and it has an USB connection.
Sorry for a relatively long post with a log of my successes and
failures, in the hopes that someone would point out what I did
wrong.

Regular expression to define contents between parentheses
Hello dear R-helpers,
I haven't been able to figure out of find a solution in the R-help archives about how to delete all the characters contained in groups of parenthesis. I have a vector that looks more or less like this:
myvector<-c("something (80 km/h, sd) & more (6 kg/L,sd)", "somethingelse (48 m/s, sd) & moretoo (50g/L , sd)")
I want to extract all

7-disk raidz achieves 430 MB/s reads and 220 MB/s writes on a $1320 box
I figured the following ZFS ''success story'' may interest some readers here.
I was interested to see how much sequential read/write performance it would be
possible to obtain from ZFS running on commodity hardware with modern features
such as PCI-E busses, SATA disks, well-designed SATA controllers (AHCI,
SiI3132/SiI3124). So I made this experiment of building a fileserver by

(no subject)
I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask this question, but I was unable to
find any other form of contact on the FLAC website. I'm trying to rip two
CDs to FLAC, and want to use EAC, but the link to download the official FLAC
tools is dead. Therefore, I'm unsure of what to download. Any help, please?
