The `lofiadm'' man page describes how to export a file as a block device and then use `mkfs -F pcfs'' to create a FAT filesystem on it. Can''t I do the same thing by first creating a zvol and then creating a FAT filesystem on it? Nothing I''ve tried seems to work. This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... I have an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD. For optimum performance, I need to block align the SSD device, but I am not sure exactly how I should to it. If I run the format -> fdisk it allows me to partition based on a cylinder, but I don''t think that is sufficient enough. Can someone tell me how they block aligned an SSD device for use in l2arc. I thought I recalled reading somewhere that in the situation where you have several zfs filesystems under one top level directory like this: rpool rpool/ROOT/osol-112 rpool/export rpool/export/home rpool/export/home/reader you could do a shapshot encompassing everything below zpool instead of having to do it at each level. (Maybe it was in a dream...)
