Jeff Bonwick leaves Sun/Oracle
http://blogs.sun.com/bonwick/en_US/entry/and_now_page_2 Monday Sep 27, 2010 And now, page 2 To my team: After 20 incredible years at Sun/Oracle, I have decided to try something new. This was a very hard decision, and not one made lightly. I have always enjoyed my work, and still do -- everything from MTS-2 to Sun Fellow to Oracle VP. I love the people I work with and the technology

Network Latency
Hiya, I''m trying to track down some throughput latency that our customer seems to be attributing to our product, I can''t see what he''s talking about, but I want to try and get some deeper granularity than I might get with something like smokeping, and maybe even see if its down to something tunable on our end. I''ve been looking for some examples on how

Dovecot fails to deliver big messages
Description of problem: Hello, I am having problems with Dovecot not delivering 'big' emails. Small email with 1-2 kb text delivered fine. If the message about 200kb long or more it freezes. I am also getting "copy: i_stream_read() failed: Permission denied" erros in Dovecot log files. I have tried switching off selinux and settings 777 permissions to my mail_location - it both

MySQL THD via PID Provider
I want to go a lot deeper with my tracing of MySQL and to do so I want to look into MySQL Thread Descriptors (class THD). Inside is a great bulk of information utilized by a great many of the core functions within MySQL... I really want to get in there. So far I''ve had no luck though. It''s a C++ class, and I''m afraid that I''m approaching it like a C struct,

Siemens Gigaset C450 IP vs S450 IP
I've just ordered a Siemens Gigaset C450 IP cordless IP/DECT phone, given that it's supported by asterisk http://www.voipuser.org/review_41.html However, I see that a slightly better Gigaset S450 IP is available for only a slight price premium. Are there any user experiences with the S450 IP? -- Eugen* Leitl <a href="http://leitl.org">leitl</a> http://leitl.org

OT: does the LSI 9211-8i fit into the HP N40L?
Hi again, thanks for all the replies to the all in one with ESXi, it was most illuminating. I will use this setup at my dayjob. Now for a slight variation on a theme: N40L with ESXi with raw drive passthrough, with OpenIndiana/napp-it NFS or iSCSI export of underlying devices. This particular setup is for a home VMWare lab, using spare hardware parts I have around. I''m trying to do

AR load script only loading every other item?
Wow, this one is weird. I''ve got a file with data I want to import, one item per line. When I run this code, only the first, third, fifth, etc items get saved: require ''../app/models/entitlement'' #### Add entitlements f = File.open("../tmp/entitlements.csv") f.each do |line| id, code, description = line.chomp.split(''|'') entitlement =

Want To Listen To Chad Fowler''s Keynote Presentation?
Chad Fowler gave two keynote presentations at CUSEC 2006 in January. The second one he gave was entitled "Rails is Boring and Ruby is a Toy" and is available through the SOENlive podcast. For those handful who might of not heard of Chad Fowler yet, he is the author of "Rails Recipes" which is presently available as a beta book. (Great book, you should get it out)

Cross Platform Mixers and LibAO
Hello Vorbis Developers. I'm in the proccess of writing an OggVorbis audio player using libao and libvorbisfile. I've greatly appreciated the simplicity of the API and good documentation with the souce of the libraries. I've descided that I really want a mixer on my player, and I'm unsure how to best go about it. LibAO (unless I'm absolutely blind) doesn't

Adding workstations to domain as non-root
Hi, The Problem: I have a samba domain using LDAP as the backend, complete with the IdealX LDAP scripts. Most of my Unix boxes (certainly anything which does any Samba stuff) authenticates against the same LDAP backend, using it for groups and users. I need to grant some people sufficient priviliges to add workstations to the domain, but I don't want to give them the root password in

DBWR write performance
I''m an Oracle DBA, a dtrace noob, and I''m attempting to resolve an Oracle write performance problem on Solaris 10, Oracle 9iR2. The Oracle DBWR processes have poor write throughput writing to VxFS files. I suspect that the problem may be with POSIX readers/writer file locking. Ideally I''d like to identify, for a given DBWR process, readers/writer file lock contention
