Extremely slow raidz resilvering
Hello everyone, As one of the steps of improving my ZFS home fileserver (snv_134) I wanted to replace a 1TB disk with a newer one of the same vendor/model/size because this new one has 64MB cache vs. 16MB in the previous one. The removed disk will be use for backups, so I thought it''s better off to have a 64MB cache disk in the on-line pool than in the backup set sitting off-line all

Dirves going offline in Zpool
Hi, I have Dell md1200 connected to two heads ( Dell R710 ). The heads have Perc H800 card and drives are configured in Raid0 ( Virtual Disk) in the RAID controller. One of the drives had crashed and is replaced by a spare. Resilvering was triggered but fails to complete due to drives going offline. I have to reboot the head ( R710) and drives comes online. This happened repeatedly when

ZFS raidz1 replacing failing disk
I''m having a serious problem with a customer running a T2000 with ZFS configured as raidz1 with 4 disks, no spare. The machine is mostly a cyrus imap server and web application server to run the ajax app to email. Yesterday we had a heavy slow down. Tomcat runs smoothly, but the imap access is very slow, also through a direct imap client runnining on LAN PCs. We figured out that the 4th

checksum errors increasing on "spare" vdev?
Hi, One of my colleagues was confused by the output of ''zpool status'' on a pool where a hot spare is being resilvered in after a drive failure: $ zpool status data pool: data state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will continue to function, possibly in a degraded state. action: Wait for the resilver to complete. scrub:

internal scrub keeps restarting resilvering?
After several days of trying to get a 1.5TB drive to resilver and it continually restarting, I eliminated all of the snapshot-taking facilities which were enabled and 2009-10-29.14:58:41 [internal pool scrub done txg:567780] complete=0 2009-10-29.14:58:41 [internal pool scrub txg:567780] func=1 mintxg=3 maxtxg=567354 2009-10-29.16:52:53 [internal pool scrub done txg:567999] complete=0

Slow Resilvering Performance
I know this topic has been discussed many times... but what the hell makes zpool resilvering so slow? I''m running OpenSolaris 2009.06. I have had a large number of problematic disks due to a bad production batch, leading me to resilver quite a few times, progressively replacing each disk as it dies (and now preemptively removing disks.) My complaint is that resilvering ends up

RAIDZ v. RAIDZ1
So, I took four 1.5TB drives and made RAIDZ, RAIDZ1 and RAIDZ2 pools. The sizes for the pools were 5.3TB, 4.0TB, and 2.67TB respectively. The man page for RAIDZ states that "The raidz vdev type is an alias for raidz1." So why was there a difference between the sizes for RAIDZ and RAIDZ1? Shouldn''t the size be the same for "zpool create raidz ..." and "zpool

Expanding a raidz vdev in zpool
Hello All, I have a zpool that consists of 2 raidz vdevs (raidz1-0 and raidz1-1). The first vdev is 4 1.5TB drives. The second was 4 500GB drives. I replaced the 4 500GB drives with 4 3TB drives. I replaced one at time, and resilvered each. Now the process is complete, I expected to have an extra 10TB (4*2.5TB) of raw space, but it''s still the same amount of space. I did an export and

Excruciatingly slow resilvering on X4540 (build 134)
Hello, I''m working with someone who replaced a failed 1TB drive (50% utilized), on an X4540 running OS build 134, and I think something must be wrong. Last Tuesday afternoon, zpool status reported: scrub: resilver in progress for 306h0m, 63.87% done, 173h7m to go and a week being 168 hours, that put completion at sometime tomorrow night. However, he just reported zpool status shows:

Corrupted raid-z pool
I''ve been fighting with this raid-z on pool for almost a year now on FreeBSD. Earlier this week I managed to mount it with one corrupted/offline disk. I tried to wipe the disk, and ended up settling with using gpart to make a new partition on it. It resilvered partially, but when I attempted to clear errors (that had been present since I last tried getting the pool to work) it restarted

Checksum errors on and after resilver
Hi all, I recently experienced a disk failure on my home server and observed checksum errors while resilvering the pool and on the first scrub after the resilver had completed. Now everything seems fine but I''m posting this to get help with calming my nerves and detect any possible future faults. Lets start with some specs. OpenSolaris 2008.11 - resilver still restarting
Just look at this. I thought all the restarting resilver bugs were fixed, but it looks like something odd is still happening at the start: Status immediately after starting resilver: # zpool status pool: rc-pool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected. action: Determine

possible resilver bugs
Hi, I don''t have means to replicate this issue nor file a bug about it so I''d like your opinion about these issues or perhaps make bug report if necessary. In scenario where is say three raidz2 groups consisting several disks, two disks fail in different raidz-groups. You have degraded pool and two degraded raidz2 groups. Now, one replaces first disk and starts resilvering, it

zpool status keeps telling "resilvered"
Hi! We have a raidz2 pool with 1 spare. Recently, one of the drives generated a lot of checksum errors, so it was automatically replaced with the spare. Since the errors stopped at some point, we figured that the drive itself was not at fault. We offlined it, zeroed it and onlined it again, started resilvering, and manually detached the spare drive. The zpool status is ONLINE and mentions

Issue with drive replacement
In the process of replacing a raidz1 of four 500GB drives with four 1.5TB drives on the third one I ran into an interesting issue. The process was to remove the old drive, put the new drive in and let it rebuild. The problem was the third drive I put in had a hardware fault. That caused both drives (c4t2d0) to show as FAULTED. I couldn''t put a new 1.5TB drive in as a replacement -

zfs raidz1 and traditional raid 5 perfomrance comparision
Hi, for zfs raidz1, I know for random io, iops of a raidz1 vdev eqaul to one physical disk iops, since raidz1 is like raid5 , so is raid5 has same performance like raidz1? ie. random iops equal to one physical disk''s ipos. Regards Victor -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Resilvering - Scrubing whats the different
Hello All I read this thread Resilver/scrub times? for a few minutes and I have recognize that I dont know the different between Resilvering and Scrubing. Shame on me. :-( I dont find some declarations in the man-pages and I know the command to start scrubing "zpool scrub tank" but what is the command to start resilver and what is the different? -- Best Regards Alexander Dezember, 20

ZFS caught resilvering when only one side of mirror persent
When I booted my laptop up this morning it took much longer than normal and there was a lot of disk activity even after I logged in. A quick use of dtrace and iostat revealed that all the writes were to the zpool. I ran zpool status and found that the pool was resilvering. Strange thing is that while the pool is a mirror, one side of it is offline since it is on an external usb disk - which

zpool will not import on a different controller
I want to move my pool (consisting of five 1.5TB sata drives in raidz1) to a different computer. I am encountering issues with controllers - the motherboard (Asus P5BV-C/4L) has 8 sata ports: 4 on a marvell 88se6145, which seems not to be supported at all; and 4 on intel 82801G, which uses the pci-ide driver. I added a 4-port pci sata card, a Silicon Image 3114, which appeared to work after
