why L2ARC device is used to store files ?
Greeting All
I have create a pool that consists oh a hard disk and a ssd as a cache
zpool create hdd c11t0d0p3
zpool add hdd cache c8t0d0p0 - cache device
I ran an OLTP bench mark to emulate a DMBS
One I ran the benchmark, the pool started create the database file on the
ssd cache device ???????????
can any one explain why this happening ?
is not L2ARC is used to absorb the evicted data

persistent L2ARC
Greeting ALL
I understand that L2ARC is still under enhancement. Does any one know if ZFS
can be upgrades to include "Persistent L2ARC", ie. L2ARC will not loose its
contents after system reboot ?

Filebench Performance is weird
Greeting All
I am using Filebench benchmark in an "Interactive mode" to test ZFS
performance with randomread wordload.
My Filebench setting & run results are as follwos

L2ARC & Workingset Size
Hi all
I ran a workload that reads & writes within 10 files each file is 256M, ie,
(10 * 256M = 2.5GB total Dataset Size).
I have set the ARC max size to 1 GB on etc/system file
In the worse case, let us assume that the whole dataset is hot, meaning my
workingset size= 2.5GB
My SSD flash size = 8GB and being used for L2ARC
No slog is used in the pool
My File system record size = 8K ,

ARC Tail
Greeting All
Can any one help me figure out the size of the ARC tail, i.e, the portion in
ARC that l2_feed thread is reading from before pages are evicted from ARC.
Is the size of this tail proportional to total ARC size ? L2ARC device
size ? is tunable ??????
your feed back is highly appreciated

Maxphys and ZFS
Hi
Should I tune maxphys on a box with 8 or more SCSI drives if I''m
running ZFS with raidz arrays? Is this just for UFS or will I get
better results in ZFS as well? Are there any other things I should
tune on my box to get the most out of ZFS.

Oracle on ZFS vs. UFS
Hi,
I''m preparing a personal TPC-H benchmark. The goal is not to measure or
optimize the database performance, but to compare ZFS to UFS in similar
configurations.
At the moment I''m preparing the tests at home. The test setup is as
follows:
. Solaris snv_37
. 2 x AMD Opteron 252
. 4 GB RAM
. 2 x 80 GB ST380817AS
. Oracle 10gR2 (small SGA (320m))
The disks also contain the OS

How to know the recordsize of a file
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I would like to know the blocksize of a particular file. I know the
blocksize for a particular file is decided at creation time, in fuction
of the write size done and the recordsize property of the dataset.
How can I access that information?. Some zdb magic?.

zfs send and recordsize
Hi Everyone,
I perform a snapshot and a zfs send on a filesystem with a recordsize
of 16k, and redirect the output to a plain file. Later, I use cat
sentfs | zfs receive otherpool/filesystem. In this case the new
filesystem''s recordsize will be the default 128k again. The other
filesystem attributes (for example atime) are reverted to defaults
too. Okay, I can set these later,

Lots of overhead with ZFS - what am I doing wrong?
I was trying to simply test bandwidth that Solaris/ZFS (Nevada b63) can deliver from a drive, and doing this:
dd if=(raw disk) of=/dev/null gives me around 80MB/s, while dd if=(file on ZFS) of=/dev/null gives me only 35MB/s!?. I am getting basically the same result whether it is single zfs drive, mirror or a stripe (I am testing with two Seagate 7200.10 320G drives hanging off the same interface

Self-tuning recordsize
Would it be worthwhile to implement heuristics to auto-tune
''recordsize'', or would that not be worth the effort?

''zfs recv'' is very slow
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
hi,
i have two systems, A (Solaris 10 update 5) and B (Solaris 10 update 6). i''m
using ''zfs send -i'' to replicate changes on A to B. however, the ''zfs recv'' on
B is running extremely slowly. if i run the zfs send on A and redirect output
to a file, it sends at 2MB/sec. but when i use ''zfs send

ARC, mmap, pagecache...
Hi,
I was wondering about the ARC and its interaction with the VM
pagecache... When a file on a ZFS filesystem is mmaped, does the ARC
cache get mapped to the process'' virtual memory? Or is there another copy?

Icecast Server API
Hi,
i know, that i maybe break all rules regarding mailing lists etc, but I
hope, I can get an answer from you for this question:
Is there an API do received the current listed stations?
We want to implement Icecast into a audioplayer and for that we have to
download the current stations list (is that allowed?)
So I?m searching similar function like Shoutcast offers:
