high read iops - more memory for arc?
I''m running into a issue where there seems to be a high number of read iops hitting disks and physical free memory is fluctuating between 200MB -> 450MB out of 16GB total. We have the l2arc configured on a 32GB Intel X25-E ssd and slog on another32GB X25-E ssd.
According to our tester, Oracle writes are extremely slow (high latency).

Resliver making the system unresponsive
This must be resliver day :)
I just had a drive failure. The hot spare kicked in, and access to the pool over NFS was effectively zero for about 45 minutes. Currently the pool is still reslivering, but for some reason I can access the file system now.
Resliver speed has been beaten to death I know, but is there a way to avoid this? For example, is more enterprisy hardware less susceptible to

Hi,
I just noticed something interesting ... don''t know whether it''s

empirical maximum likelihood estimation
Dear R-users
Problem:
Given the following system of ordinary differential euqations
dM/dt = (-n)*M-h*M
dS/dt = n*M-h*S+u*R
dA/dt = h*S-q*A
dI/dt = q*A-p*I
dJ/dt = h*M-v*J
dR/dt=p*I+v*J-u*R
where M,S,A,I,J,R are state variables and n,h,u,q,p,v parameters.
I'm able to calculate the likelihood value based on the solutions
M,S,A,I,J,R of the ODE's given the data, but without an explicit

Differential Equations
Dear R-community
My ODE problems looks as follows:
(1) dA/dt = u*A - v*B
(2) dB/dt = v*B - u*A
where u is a constant, and v=k*t (k=constant, t=time)
Does anybody knows a good function/procedure of solving? Should one
involve the equation (3) dv/dt = k?
Thanks for your support.

Optimizing Gluster (gfapi) for high IOPS
Hey folks,
We've been running VM's on qemu using a replicated gluster volume connecting using gfapi and things have been going well for the most part. Something we've noticed though is that we have problems with many concurrent disk operations and disk latency. The latency gets bad enough that the process eats the cpu and the entire machine stalls. The place where we've seen it

Storage IOPs Calculation for Qmail Server
Dear DovecotORG,
In my organization, we are about to implement Qmail Server.
* The number of current users will be 800, in future it may increase upto
1200.
* The number of concurrent users will be 300.
I am the engineer to deploy the Qmail in Linux server. I need to tell the
storage team on the IOPs requirement.
I requested 8TB usable space for the mail storage (can

Iops Vorbis player
Hi,
does anyone have, or know much about, the Iops portable players?
Are they better/worse than the players from iriver?
I am looking for a USB-thumb-drive style of music player (that plays
vorbis of course).
>From what I have been able to gather from the Iops website, it suits
this purpose, but the site is all in Korean. I was hoping to find
someone who had actually purchased one of these

measuring iops on linux - numbers make sense?
Hello,
When approaching hosting providers for services, the first question
many of them asked us was about the amount of IOPS the disk system
should support.
While we stress-tested our service, we recorded between 4000 and 6000
"merged io operations per second" as seen in "iostat -x" and collectd
(varies between the different components of the system, we have a few

Measuring ZFS performance - IOPS and throughput
Can anybody tell me how to measure the raw performance of a new system I''m putting together? I''d like to know what it''s capable of in terms of IOPS and raw throughput to the disks.
I''ve seen Richard''s raidoptimiser program, but I''ve only seen results for random read iops performance, and I''m particularly interested in write

IOPS required by Asterisk for Call Recording
Hi
What are the disk IOPS required for Asterisk call recording?
I am trying to find out number of disks required in RAID array to record
500 calls.
Is there any formula to calculate IOPS required by Asterisk call
recording? This will help me to find IOPS for different scale.
If I assume that Asterisk will write data on disk every second for each
call, I will need disk array to support minimum

arcstat updates
Hi ZFSers,
I''ve been working on merging the Joyent arcstat enhancements with some of my own
and am now to the point where it is time to broaden the requirements gathering. The result
is to be merged into the illumos tree.
arcstat is a perl script to show the value of ARC kstats as they change over time. This is
similar to the ideas behind mpstat, iostat, vmstat, and friends.
The current

SSD ZIL/L2ARC partitioning
Hi,
I''ve ordered a new server with:
- 4x600GB Toshiba 10K SAS2 Disks
- 2x100GB OCZ DENEVA 2R SYNC eMLC SATA (no expander so I hope no SAS/
SATA problems). Specs: http://www.oczenterprise.com/ssd-products/deneva-2-r-sata-6g-2.5-emlc.html
I want to use the 2 OCZ SSDs as mirrored intent log devices, but as
the intent log needs quite a small amount of the disks (10GB?), I was
wondering

What is L2ARC write pattern?
Hello all,
A few months ago I saw a statement that L2ARC writes are simplistic
in nature, and I got the (mis?)understanding that some sort of ring
buffer may be in use, like for ZIL. Is this true, and the only metric
of write-performance important for L2ARC SSD device is the sequential
write bandwidth (and IOPS)? In particular, there are some SD/MMC/CF
cards for professional photography and

persistent L2ARC
Greeting ALL
I understand that L2ARC is still under enhancement. Does any one know if ZFS
can be upgrades to include "Persistent L2ARC", ie. L2ARC will not loose its
contents after system reboot ?

When is the L2ARC refreshed if on a separate drive?
I''m running a mirrored pair of 2 TB SATA drives as my data storage drives on my home workstation, a Core i7-based machine with 10 GB of RAM. I recently added a sandforce-based 60 GB SSD (OCZ Vertex 2, NOT the pro version) as an L2ARC to the single mirrored pair. I''m running B134, with ZFS pool version 22, with dedup enabled. If I understand correctly, the dedup table should be in
