Unable to boot Dom0 from external hard disk in snv_b81
Hi All,
I installed snv_b81 in my portable hard disk(capacity 160gb with 2
partitions, one for solaris and other for windows). When I tried to boot
into dom0 from grub, I got the following errors and the system gets hanged.

usb ups on openindiana
Hello all,
I am trying to set up my brother's UPS (remotely over internet)
on an OpenIndiana-based storage box. According to him, the UPS is
probably an Ippon Back Power Pro 600 dated around 2003 (battery
recently replaced), and it has an USB connection.
Sorry for a relatively long post with a log of my successes and
failures, in the hopes that someone would point out what I did
wrong.

Can''t get a Centos 5.3 domU to work
I''m unable to create a centos domU on Opensolaris 2009.6. I had no
problem following the instructions to make Solaris a dom0. The same
process worked just fine with the GUI virtual machine manager under
OpenSUSE 11.1. For a number of reasons I''d prefer to use Opensolaris
as my Dom0, but not if it going to be a battle to get everything to
work. Is Xen actually a

ZFS import on pool with same name?
I have an OpenSolaris snv_101 box with ZFS on it. (Sun Ultra 20 M2)
zpool name is rpool. The
I have a 2nd hard drive in the box that I am trying to recover the ZFS
data from (long story but that HD became unbootable after installing IPS
on the machine)
Both drives have a pool named "rpool", so I can''t import the rpool from
the 2nd drive.

Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure after a change in the system
I''ve hit this bug on my home machine couple of times and finally decided to log
it since I''ve spend 2 days configuring my "OpenSolaris 2008.11 snv_101b_rc2
X86" and after installing the SUNWsmbfskr package I ended up in the grub> menu.
The package contains a necessary module for CIFS. After pkg install
SUNWsmbfskr, I rebooted the box. There was no grub menu anymore

zpool split problem?
Zpool split is a wonderful feature and it seems to work well,
and the choice of which disk got which name was perfect!
But there seems to be an odd anomaly (at least with b132) .
Started with c0t1d0s0 running b132 (root pool is called rpool)
Attached c0t0d0s0 and waited for it to resilver
Rebooted from c0t0d0s0
zpool split rpool spool
Rebooted from c0t0d0s0, both rpool and spool were mounted

zpool status showing wrong device name (similar to: ZFS confused about disk controller )
Hi All,
over the last couple of weeks, I had to boot from my rpool from various physical
machines because some component on my laptop mainboard blew up (you know that
burned electronics smell?). I can''t retrospectively document all I did, but I am
sure I recreated the boot-archive, ran devfsadm -C and deleted
/etc/zfs/zpool.cache several times.
Now zpool status is referring to a

Booting fails with `Can not read the pool label'' error
I''m still trying to find a fix/workaround for the problem described in
Unable to mount root pool dataset
http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=492460
Since the Blade 1500''s rpool is mirrored, I''ve decided to detach the
second half of the mirror, relabel the disk, create an alternative rpool
(rpool2) there, copy the current BE (snv_134) using beadm

Opensolaris domU unable to get dhcp lease
I''m running a ubuntu 9.04 64 bit dom0 with kernel 2.6.29.6 and xen
3.4.0. My eth0 is bridged to br0 and to my guest VMs. The dom0 is
running a dhcp server on br0 which is able to provide leases to
physical machines on eth0, and also to a windows xp domU which is
bridged to br0. However my open solaris 2009.6 domU is unable to
obtain a dhcp lease.
On the opensolaris side I can see this:

ZFS Boot Won''t work with a straight or mirror zfsroot
Using build 70, I followed the zfsboot instructions at http://
www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/boot/zfsboot-manual/ to the
letter.
I tried first with a mirror zfsroot, when I try to boot to zfsboot
the screen is flooded with "init(1M) exited on fatal signal 9"
Than I tried with a simple zfs pool (not mirrored) and it just
reboots right away.

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance.
now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus.
zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

vif problems in snv_127
Hi !
In snv_127 I suddenly face a problem I never had before. Xvm can''t
attach a vif to my primary
physical nic any longer:
$ pfexec xm start ulrac1
Error: Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. error: Failed to create
vnic over yukonx1 with MAC address 00:16:36:3c:bf:70
This worked fine in all previous snv_12x releases I tested, including
snv_126. I think there is a privilege

Forcing ZFS options
There are times when ZFS options can not be applied at the moment,
i.e. changing desired mountpoints of active filesystems (or setting
a mountpoint over a filesystem location that is currently not empty).
Such attempts now bail out with messages like:
cannot unmount ''/var/adm'': Device busy
cannot mount ''/export'': directory is not empty
and such.

Allegations regarding OpenBSD IPSEC
Some of you probably already read this:
http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-tech&m=129236621626462&w=2
Interesting...I wonder what is the impact of all this on FreeBSD code.
We may very well suppose that any government or corporation funded code
can theoretically have some kind of backdoor inside.
