sharenfs=off, but still being shared?
I noticed an oddity on my 2008.05 box today.
Created a new zfs file system that I was planning to nfs share out to an old FreeBSD box, after I put sharenfs=on for it, I noticed there was a bunch of others shared too:
-bash-3.2# dfshares -F nfs

OpenSolaris 2008.05 CIFS - "cannot share...smb add share failed"
Hi All,
After a LOT of tinkering I eventually determined exactly where I am going wrong. It''s to do with the ZFS ACLs I am applying. Why this is resulting in the behaviour I am seeing, I do not know - perhaps someone can spell it out to me.
To cut a long story short, this is how I am creating my file systems:

solaris 10 SMF setup?
Hello
I'm in the process of putting SMB onto a dual Opteron x64
box running Solaris 10, with the SFW samba as supplied by
Sun.
I haven't found any hooks for this for the new SMF/SVC startup
system, so I'm doing so now, but before I go any further,
am I duplicating any efforts? Is anyone else doing
this and has done it?
At present I'm only starting smbd and nmbd (I never really

Status of Samba/ZFS integration
I''ve tried to set up a SAMBA file server that acts completely identical with a Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 one. First of all, the problem with the ACI ordering is simple:
The Microsoft ACI specification imposes that the DENY ACIs are put on top. It can be solved with a simple chmod.
Problem no.2 the Samba NFSv4 ACL module doesn''t interpret owner@, group@, everyone at . While

ldap secondary/auxillary groups not available
I have a samba 3.0.20 installation that authenticates users using ntlm
to a MS DC. The samba installation was correctly able authenticate users
and map them to their unix uids and gids without an issue. The solaris
box that samba was running on was also using NIS for its naming
services.
I have recently migrated this machine that was using NIS for its naming
services to LDAP which is running

Confusion regarding ''zfs send''
I''m playing around with snv_128 on one of my systems, and trying to
see what kinda of benefits enabling dedup will give me.
The standard practice for reprocessing data that''s already stored to
add compression and now dedup seems to be a send / receive pipe
similar to:
zfs send -R <old fs>@snap | zfs recv -d <new fs>
However, according to the man page,

SMF/process contracts in Solaris 10
I've searched the archive for this mailing list and the bug list for
OpenSSH for this, and I'm finding nothing. I'd appreciate it if
somoene could point me to an existing thread about this. (I know that
other people are aware of the problem, though, so I'm a bit surprised
to find nothing.)
We're running OpenSSH under Solaris 10 using SMF instead of a legacy
init script. SMF

Oops: zfs-auto-snapshot with at scheduling
Hi all,
I''ll attach a new version zfs-auto-snapshot including some more
improvements, and probably some new bugs. Seriously, I have
tested it, but certainly not all functionality, so please let me know
about any (new) problems you come across.
Except from the change log:
- Added support to schedule using at(1), see
README.zfs-auto-snapshot.txt
- take_snapshot will only run if

Mongrel under opensolars with SMF
Thought I''d drop a note about my experience with running mongrel
directly under the solaris service management framework. So far I''m
very impressed. SMF is the solaris replacement for the init system.
It''s tied much more closely to the OS and for instance doesn''t use pid
files. I''ve found you can completely eliminate mongrel cluster, and

SMF services for Xen
1. Introduction
This case introduces the SMF services used by a Solaris-based domain 0 when
running on Xen, or a Xen-compatible hypervisor. All of these services only
run on domain 0 when booted under Xen virtualisation.

Time Series with Neural Networks
Hi,
I am would like to ask few questions.
I am trying to forecast hourly electricity prices by 24 hours ahead.
I have hourly data starting from 2015*12*18 to 2017-10-24
and I have defined the data as time series as written in the code below.
Then I am trying do neural network with 23 non-seasonal dummies and 1 seasonal dummy.
But I don?t know whether training set is enough.( Guess it is 50

error - dovecot - child (login) killed with signal 16
We've been happily running Dovecot in Solaris 10 for about 8 months now.
Yesterday, Solaris 10's SMF put it in maintenance mode (shut it down) seemingly out of the blue. The
only thing going on was that I had updated the ssl certificate. We had previously been using a self
signed cert. Now we have a cert from InCommon. We had a problem with a few users who are still on

zfs chattiness at boot time
Hi all,
I recently started seeing zfs chattiness at boot time: "reading zfs config"
and something like "mounting zfs filesystems (n/n)".
Is this really necessary? I thought with SMF the times where every script
announced its'' existance had gone (and good thing, too).
Can''t we print something only if it goes wrong?

Error Starting Samba
I got a copy of the latest samba build from the samba site, v4.1.11. I compiled and installed it with the default options on OpenIndiana 151.1.8. I previously had samba installed from the openindiana repository but this stopped working after my windows folks made security changes to AD. I suspect the older version of samba in the repo 3.5.21-0.151.1.8 lacks certain functionality to enable it to

ZFS disables nfs/server on a host
I have an Ultra 10 client running Sol10 U3 that has a zfs pool set up on the extra space of the internal ide disk. There''s just the one fs and it is shared with the sharenfs property. When this system reboots nfs/server ends up getting disabled and this is the error from the SMF logs:

solaris SMF to start ferret drb server

Hmm, I think I''ve hit a similar problem. I''ve just upgraded to the
latest ferret trunk from an old aaf stable where the script/ferret_start
and script/ferret_stop scripts were still in use.
now if I call the old script...

Solaris SMF manifests and services in puppet
Anyone ever thought of making the service type in puppet able to
deploy new services? I''m not sure this would be useful for all OSes,
since package management systems generally install init scripts. Well
it''d still be useful for Linux if you''re managing any customized
services.
For Solaris, it''d be great if I could just give puppet an SMF XML
file, and say
