Is there a way to force the usage of a mixer?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Is there a way to force Wine to use a particular mixer? I'm not getting any sound via my USB audio in Ubuntu, and I'm wondering if this is because WINE is attempting to use my VIA audio mixer rather than USB Audio (which it does list within winecfg's audio tab for both ALSA and OSS). Any ideas of other things I can try to

ZFS send/receive to Solaris/FBSD/OpenIndiana/Nexenta VM guest?
Hello, I''m debating an OS change and also thinking about my options for data migration to my next server, whether it is on new or the same hardware. Migrating to a new machine I understand is a simple matter of ZFS send/receive, but reformatting the existing drives to host my existing data is an area I''d like to learn a little more about. In the past I''ve asked about

Z-Raid performance with Random reads/writes
Given a 1.6TB ZFS Z-Raid consisting 6 disks: And a system that does an extreme amount of small /(<20K) /random reads /(more than twice as many reads as writes) / 1) What performance gains, if any does Z-Raid offer over other RAID or Large filesystem configurations? 2) What is any hindrance is Z-Raid to this configuration, given the complete randomness and size of these accesses? Civ IV
Hello, I'm trying to get Civ IV running on my 64 bit version of Ubuntu 7.10 using the latest Wine version using these directions: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2007/06/10/special-civilization-iv-playable-on-linux/ (the winehq appDB points to this guide as well) I'm having problems getting CivIV to run though. Firstly, looking at the wine settings here:

Slightly OT: FakeRaid or Software Raid
I have had great luck with nvidia fakeraid on RAID1, but I see there are preferences for software raid. I have very little hands on with full Linux software RAID and that was about 14 years ago. I am trying to determine which to use on a rebuild in a "standard" CentOS/Xen enviroment. It seems to me that while FakeRaid is/can be completely taken care of in dom0 dmraid whereas with

ZFS core contributor nominations
The time has come to review the current Contributor and Core contributor grants for ZFS. Since all of the ZFS core contributors grants are set to expire on 02-24-2009 we need to renew the members that are still contributing at core contributor levels. We should also add some new members to both Contributor and Core contributor levels. First the current list of Core contributors: Bill

> 1TB filesystems with ZFS and 32-bit Solaris?
Solaris in 32-bit mode has a 1TB device limit. UFS filesystems in 32-bit mode also have a 1TB limit, even if using a logical volume manager to span smaller than 1TB devices. So, what kind of limit does ZFS have when running under 32-bit Solaris? -- Erik Trimble Java System Support Mailstop: usca14-102 Phone: x17195 Santa Clara, CA

The ZFS-Man.
Hi. I gave a talk about ZFS during EuroBSDCon 2007, and because it won the the best talk award and some find it funny, here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=o3TGM0T1CvE a bit better version is here: http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/misc/zfs/zfs-man.swf BTW. Inspired by ZFS demos from OpenSolaris page I created few demos of ZFS on FreeBSD:

space allocation vs. thin provisioning
Short question: I''m curious as to how ZFS manages space (free and used) and how its usage interacts with thin provisioning provided by HDS arrays. Is there any effort to minimize the number of provisioned disk blocks that get writes so as to not negate any space benefits that thin provisioning may give? Background & more detailed questions: In Jeff Bonwick''s blog[1], he
