I find that rsync is an excellent tool for backing up my large partitions, often over slower links on the Internet. I run a cron job every night to update backup mirrors. But occasionally I make large changes to the source disk, and the rsync update takes more thanb 24 ours to complete. Then I can have two or more rsyncs working over the same source and destination directories. What I really

Samba over SSH to Windows Vista
After having scoured the net for a way to do SMB over SSH with Windows, I've tried everything I have found and I still can't get it to work. I'm using Windows Vista as the client and FC6 with Samba 3.0.24-1 as the server. I have set up a share and can successfully connect to that share with no ssh tunnel. I would like to tunnel SMB over SSH, so here is what I have tried: 1.

How to tunnel Samba via ssh from Windows XP without having to disable local NetBIOS
The most recent discussions I could find on the internet about how to tunnel Samba over ssh were on this list (http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-February/), but no complete answers were given. Here is a near complete answer, which works, pulled together from various sources on the web (which are referenced). Remaining questions are at the end. It is kind of PuTTY-centric, but as far as I

"labels" attached to variable names
Hi, Can we attach a more descriptive "label" (I may use the wrong terminology, which would explain why I found nothing on the FAQ) to variable names, and later have an easy way to switch to these labels in plots? I fear this is not possible and one must enter this by hand as ylab and xlab when making plots. Thanks in advance, Denis Chabot

rename(2) errno processing
Hello, I've been porting rsync-3.0.7 to run on UWIN, an AT&T Labs open source project, supporting a Unix environment on Windows. The code configured easily and compiled without any modifications or ifdef's added to the code. The backup test was failing because it didn't create a subdirectory. In tracing the code I realized the problem was in robust_move() in backup.c. UWIN returns

I'm trying to build R-1.5.0 on an SGI. I downloaded the tar file just a couple of hours ago. png output in batch
I'm trying to use R in a cgi script to produce graphics files in png format, and I'm having a problem. My shell command line looks like this: R </usr/dfs/auction/eligibility.R --no-save >/tmp/R.out and the line in the R script looks like this: png ("foo.png", pointsize=18) If I run outside the cgi context, it runs great. When run as in a cgi script, I get this error

PSARC 2009/571: ZFS deduplication properties
I haven''t seen any mention of it in this forum yet, so FWIW you might be interested in the details of ZFS deduplication mentioned in this recently-filed case. Case log: http://arc.opensolaris.org/caselog/PSARC/2009/571/ Discussion: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=115507 Very nice -- I like the interaction with "copies", and (like a few others) I think
