Recover files from a broken ext3 partition
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [Please CC me on answers, I'm not subscribed] Hi everyone, I have got a hard disk which was damaged by a fall and would like to recover a few files from that. If Trying to Recover a Damaged Partition: kbs-CentOS-Extras Has a Tool
Recently (and for ages, I'm sure) folks have suffered partition destruction and had to try and recover. In the recent thread, the victim eventually had to resort to Google and fond some package that I can not remember now. Well, I was perusing my YumInfo.lst.05, for general info, and I discovered this (potential) little gem. Thought I would pass it on and make it "more googleable"

How To Recover From Creating >2TB ext3 Filesystem on MSDOS Partition Table?
(I've already sent this message to Ted Ts'o directly. I should have sent it to this list first but I didn't know about it until today. My apologies to Ted.) Last Friday a system that I just inherited refused to mount a file system that had been working fine for about 6 months. This is on a Scientific Linux 4.3 system using a 2.6.9 kernel. This is another Linux distribution based on

Backing up ext3 root partition with dd
Is there a reason why an ext3 root partition cannot be copied to an alternate partition using the "dd" command? The dd is copying the mounted root partition into an alternate partition that is not mounted. The dd returns success, but the fsck on that partition fails with errors as follows: ----------------- fsck 1.37 (21-Mar-2005) /dev/Active_Update/root2: recovering journal

How to calculate the derivatives at each data point?
Hi everyone, I have a vector with atmospheric measurements (x-axis) that is obtained/calculated at different altitudes (y-axis). The altitude is uniformly distributed every 7 meters. For example my dataframe is: df <- dataframe( *altitude* = c(1005, 1012, 1019, 1026, 1033, 1040, 1047, 1054, 1061, 1068), *atm_values* = c(1.41, 1.40, 1.39, 1.38, 1.37, 1.37, 1.38, 1.36, 1.33, 1.31)

one (small) sample wilcox.test confidence intervals
Dear R people, I notice that the confidence intervals of a very small sample (e.g. n=6) derived from the one-sample wilcox.test are just the maximum and minimum values of the sample. This only occurs when the required confidence level is higher than 0.93. Example: > sample <- c(1.22, 0.89, 1.14, 0.98, 1.37, 1.06) > summary(sample) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max.

getsockopt TCP_NODELAY: Socket operation on non-socket
We get the warning above whenever we use a ProxyCommand. We _know_ it's a pipe, so we can't use sockopts on it. So we shouldn't bitch about it. This breaks all kinds of things which use SSH transparently; including pine, which really wants the first thing it receives from an IMAP server to be a valid imap greeting... which $subject is not. $ ssh -o "proxycommand sh -c '(

clone RHEL 4 ext3 partition
Hi, I'm about to roll out a whole bunch of Redhat Enterprise 4 workstations and have run into problems cloning from the original. Normally I would use ghost (v7.5) because it does a nice job when cloning to a different sized disk.Unfortunately it comes up with read error 29004. Looking around it seems that Symantec don't support Fedora Core 3 (with Ghost v.8 - don't know if v.9 works
