USB sticks show on one set of devices in zpool, different devices in format
Hello,
I had snv_111b running for a while on a HP DL160G5. With two 16GB USB sticks comprising the mirrored rpool for boot. And four 1TB drives comprising another pool, pool1, for data.
So that''s been working just fine for a few months. Yesterday I get it into my mind to upgrade the OS to latest, then was snv_127. That worked, and all was well. Also did an upgrade to the

Change one file, and they all get sent!
Hi,
Just starting out with rsync, and I think I might be missing a
fundamental point of how it works.
Scenario:
I start an rsync daemon on host A, and define a module 'test' on the
rsyncd.conf file. 'test' is essentially my home directory on host A
I then sign on to host B and issue
rsync --progress --recursive --links --stats arthur::test/ /var/tmp/haggis

usb ups on openindiana
Hello all,
I am trying to set up my brother's UPS (remotely over internet)
on an OpenIndiana-based storage box. According to him, the UPS is
probably an Ippon Back Power Pro 600 dated around 2003 (battery
recently replaced), and it has an USB connection.
Sorry for a relatively long post with a log of my successes and
failures, in the hopes that someone would point out what I did
wrong.

Unable to boot Dom0 from external hard disk in snv_b81
Hi All,
I installed snv_b81 in my portable hard disk(capacity 160gb with 2
partitions, one for solaris and other for windows). When I tried to boot
into dom0 from grub, I got the following errors and the system gets hanged.

Write-behind breaks Mercurial
Hi all
It seems Mercurial doesn't work with "write behind" on. Any ideas?
With write-behind --

Set volume successful
root at dj1:~/mnt# hg clone http://projects.unbit.it/hg/uwsgi
destination directory: uwsgi

Files are duplicated after renaming (with glusterfs+zfs-fuse)
Hi all,
I installed glusterfs (version 3.1.3) with zfs-fuse (0.6.9) as the
underlying filesystem.
After renaming a file, I found the file duplicated.
Following is my test scenario.
root at ubuntu:/# zpool create tank /dev/sdb
root at ubuntu:/# gluster volume create test-volume ubuntu:/tank/exp1
ubuntu:/exp2
root at ubuntu:/# gluster volume start test-volume
root at ubuntu:/# mount -t glusterfs

Recovery of RAIDZ with broken label(s)
Hi all,
I have a 5 drive RAIDZ volume with data that I''d like to recover.
The long story runs roughly:
1) The volume was running fine under FreeBSD on motherboard SATA controllers.
2) Two drives were moved to a HP P411 SAS/SATA controller
3) I *think* the HP controllers wrote some volume information to the end of
each disk (hence no more ZFS labels 2,3)
4) In its "auto

Data loss (corruption with rsync)
Hello,
I just rsync'd my 1TB partitions formated with jfs filesystem
containing ~720GB data. I saw -3G difference between source and
destination which made me suspect possible dataloss. Also I had
experienced loss of integrity on my previous copies but I did not find
the cause until now.
As command line I used following:
sh-3.2# rsync --verbose --sparse --append-verify --fuzzy --progress

files lost in the zpool - retrieval possible ?
Greetings,
my Opensolaris 06/2009 installation on an Thinkpad x60 notebook is a little unstable. From the symptoms during installation it seems that there might be something with the ahci driver. No problem with the Opensolaris LiveCD system.
Some weeks ago during copy of about 2 GB from a USB stick to the zfs filesystem, the system froze and afterwards refused to boot.
Now when investigating

Which label a ZFS/ZPOOL device has ? VTOC or EFI ?
Hi All,
ZPOOL / ZFS commands writes EFI label on a device if we create ZPOOL/ZFS fs on it. Is it true ?
I formatted a device with VTOC lable and I created a ZFS file system on it.
Now which label the ZFS device has ? is it old VTOC or EFI ?
After creating the ZFS file system on a VTOC labeled disk, I am seeing the following warning messages.

Weird issue with gluster mount
Hey guys,
I have a weird issue with my glusterfs mount point.
I'm trying to touch it on one machine:
root at il-bi-s01:/mnt# touch gfs
touch: setting times of `gfs': Invalid argument
But on another machine, it works:
root at diablo /mnt # touch gfs
root at diablo /mnt #
On both machines the mount is working fine, I'm just wondering what's up with this?

sharing a ssd between rpool and l2arc
Hi,
as Richard Elling wrote earlier:
"For more background, low-cost SSDs intended for the boot market are
perfect candidates. Take a X-25V @ 40GB and use 15-20 GB for root
and the rest for an L2ARC. For small form factor machines or machines
with max capacity of 8GB of RAM (a typical home system) this can make a
pleasant improvement over a HDD-only implementation."

Sol10u7: can''t "zpool remove" missing hot spare
I''m using Solaris 10u6 updated to u7 via patches, and I have a pool
with a mirrored pair and a (shared) hot spare. We reconfigured disks
a while ago and now the controller is c4 instead of c2. The hot spare
was originally on c2, and apparently on rebooting it didn''t get found.
So, I looked up what the new name for the hot spare was, then added
it to the pool with "zpool

Boot from external degraded zpool
Hi!
I wonder if the following scenario works:
I have a mac mini running as an OSOL box. The OS is installed on the internal hard drive on the vdrive rpool. On rpool there is no redundancy.
If I add an external block device (USB / Firewire) to rpool to mirror the internal hard drive and if the internal hard drive fails, can I reboot the system with the detached internal drive but with the

zpool upgrade and zfs upgrade behavior on b145
Not sure what the best list to send this to is right now, so I have selected
a few, apologies in advance.
A couple questions. First I have a physical host (call him bob) that was
just installed with b134 a few days ago. I upgraded to b145 using the
instructions on the Illumos wiki yesterday. The pool has been upgraded (27)
and the zfs file systems have been upgraded (5).
