Polymorphic Association with Single Table Inheritance?
Hello,
is it possible to setup a model/table schema like this:
Groupable --> Membership <-- Group
^ ^
| |
User UserGroup
I tried the following but failed:
Groupable (table with ''type'' column)
has_many :memberships, :as => :groupable
has_many :groups, :through => :memberships

has_many :through with a polymorphic join
Hi,
Four tables: users, user_counties, uk_counties and us_counties.
Each user has many counties, and each county has many users, so I
decided to make user_counties a polymorph, so it can have counties
from different countries (each country requires a completely different
set of tables with a completely different set of properties, that''s
why there''s one table for uk_counties and

Associating with different classes
Dear Railers,
I am toying with a new project and have a schema design question.
I have a tree-like node structure. Each of the nodes will be
associated with a single object. This associated object can be of a
variety of types.
I represent the tree through a Node class which acts_as_tree. Now
imagine three other classes--Animals, Fruits and Vegetables. Each
node will have an association

Polymorphic Associations: dynamic finders
Is there any sort of dynamic finder for polymorphic associations?
For example if I had:
class InviteNode < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :inviteable, :polymorphic => true
end
I would like to be able to search by:
InviteNode.find_by_inviteable(some_object)
instead of having to do:
InviteNode.find_by_inviteable_id_and_inviteable_type(some_object.id,
some_object.class.name)
obviously I

polymorphic,has_many through can not work?
Josh Susser tells in his blog that the opposite direction of polymorphic
will get into trouble together with has_many through.
This is the url:
http://blog.hasmanythrough.com/articles/2006/04/03/polymorphic-through
I do that according to Josh Susser''s procedure:
class Tagging < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :tag
belongs_to :taggable, :polymorphic => true
belongs_to

Polymorphic Association?
Hi there-
I''m a newbie to this board, RoR, and web development in general. So
please forgive me if this is in the wrong place or if the solution is
really simple...
I''m trying to conceptualize the relationships between a series of
models for a page creation function. What I''d like is to have a
Content Page which consists of a series of Content Blocks. The

Polymorphic has_and_belongs_to_many association
Hi,
I''m currently having the situation where I have to implement a polymorphic
has_and_belongs_to_many by introducing an in between model that handles all
the "has_many :as" and "belongs_to :polymorphic" association
implementations... and is not doing anything else. Thing I don''t like it
here is, I am unnecessarily loading AR instances only to execute SQL

Updating attributes in HABTM association
Hi,
I am trying to find a way tp update attributes in a habtm association. I
am trying to use the code from ticket #2462, but as my
association_class_primary_key_name seems to be empty the generated sql
code is corrupt. I hope thats not a problem of my model that this
variable is empty.
What would you recommend to update those attributes (rails 1.1)
THANKS!!!

Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on
site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow
nesting, and can dynamically update.
So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which
contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the
parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

Multiple polymorphic belongs_to declarations
I have the following models:
class Card < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :deck
belongs_to :front, :polymorphic => true
belongs_to :back, :polymorphic => true
end
class TextContent < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :card, :as => :front
has_one :card, :as => :back
end
The conflicting has_one declarations don''t work. What I need is

object class with STI and Polymorphic Assoc''s.
Hi, lets say I have a a table, "Linkings" that I am using for
polymorphic associations. One of the associations is to the "person"
table, and there are several other associations.
"Person" has 2 types, "slacker" and "suckup".
It is modelled as such:
class Linking < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :person
belongs_to :linkable, :polymorphic

polymorphic challenge
Hello All,
I have a little challenge and I am not sure if this is even possible
I am working on a dating/event site and few functionalities are similar
that I want to centralize them.
We have users which can have
- favorite users
- interest list
- blocked users
All these relations are like;
User <-> Relation <-> User
I was thinking I could have a class called Relation (with a

Polymorphic, many-to-many, self-referential data model
No matter what I try I''ve been unable to work how to get this to work with
the cool ActiveRecord helpers. I''m not sure if it''s possible, Josh Susser''s
blog suggests it is, but damned if I can work it out...
I have:
Container which can contain one or more Element. An Element is a polymorph
of either a Container or a Chunk. An Element can exist in one or more

polymorphic assoc seems only best for multiple parents ?
I have done a little polymorphic associations stuff and have
refreshed my memory on it again.
What it seems like is that if I have a particular record and I want to
make it easy for many different parent records to associate with it
using has_one or has_many, that is fine.
If I want a parent record to have multiple kinds of children through
one association, I don''t see how to do that

has_many :through scope on join attribute
Hi
I have a has_many :through. It''s a basic mapping of
Project
id
....
User
id
....
TeamMembers
project_id
user_id
role
What I would like to do is have different roles so I can have in the project
model
has_many :core_members, :through => :team_members, :source => :user
but I would like to limit this to only those with the "core" role in the
team members table for

polymorphic associations wrong when used with inherited class?
Consider the following:
class Event
belongs_to :event_object, :polymorphic => true
end
class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base
end
class EventedAsset < Asset
has_one :event, :as => :event_object
end
EventedAsset.find(:first).event generates the following SQL:
SELECT * FROM `events` WHERE (events.event_object_id = 1 AND
events.event_object_type = ''Asset'') LIMIT 1

polymorphic association
Hello,
I have a scenario where I want to save a author image and book image to
assets table...
I am using a polymorphic association.
And author_name is inside the books table.
now when I save the image the imageable_type says "Book" for both. And
off-course it''s a correct behavior, but I am just trying to figure out is
there any way where I can save author image and

Polymorphic associations?
I''ve read the stuff about polymorphic associations here:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/UnderstandingPolymorphicAssociations
But I''m not sure what exactly they are and what their advantage is. Are
they the same as HABTM, but they''re "two-way"?

:through causes White Screen of Death
i''m trying to get :through associations working per the wiki:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/ThroughAssociations
i follow the instruction to the t, with the exception that i''m trying to use it
with a polymorphic association. here are the associations in my models:

Collection has_many :collectables, :through => collectings
