LVM and ZFS
I''m curious about if there are any potential problems with using LVM metadevices as ZFS zpool targets. I have a couple of situations where using a device directly by ZFS causes errors on the console about "Bus and lots of "stalled" I/O. But as soon as I wrap that device inside an LVM metadevice and then use it in the ZFS zpool things work perfectly fine and smoothly (no

SAMBA replies SAM LOGON request from different ip alias

Each of them has a several ip aliases, except by SERVER1 which has only primary ip numbers on its interfaces. When I try to join a new Windows client (XP SP3) to the domain. It asks our wins server for

ZFS partially hangs when removing an rpool mirrored disk while having some IO on another pool on another partition of the same disk
Hello, Sorry for the (very) long subject but I''ve pinpointed the problem to this exact situation. I know about the other threads related to hangs, but in my case there was no < zfs destroy > involved, nor any compression or deduplication. To make a long story short, when - a disk contains 2 partitions (p1=32GB, p2=1800 GB) and - p1 is used as part of a zfs mirror of rpool

Suggestions? Multiple servers/storages one domain
Hi, currently we do have one samba3x-3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 RH EL 5.8 PDC authenticating by our central LDAP server. This PDS also hosts the central fileserver storage for all our +- 600 users, some group shares and roaming profiles. The clients are OS X, Win XP and Win 7. We hope to have all XP 'killed' by end of the year. Furthermore we do have a second stand alone samba server for some

Good SLOG devices?
Hi I''m running OpenSolaris 148 on a few boxes, and newer boxes are getting installed as we speak. What would you suggest for a good SLOG device? It seems some new PCI-E-based ones are hitting the market, but will those require special drivers? Cost is obviously alsoo an issue here.... Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering about them. One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI controllers are PCI-E. Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the

diagnosing cause of NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error
I'm trying to find out why I am unable to access public shares on host mythbe (from host mythbe) due to a NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error. I am able to access home shares. I've checked all of the host setup issues I know about (smb.conf, directory permissions, iptables, selinux) but I don't see any problems. Can anyone spot a problem or suggest where I could investigate? Below is

Diagnosing Performance Issues
Hi All, First off my apologies if this is the wrong place to be asking. I seem to have a problem where the smbd process is using a massive amount of CPU for network transfers. It averages about 70-90% usage on both cores of a dual-core machine when transferring between disks (or over the network) using samba/cifs shares. Along with this I also notice the transfers going from a steady
