operator overload on views
In my User auth scheme I have a userlevel. I''ve overloaded the User class operators like this: def >(item) if item.class == "User" self.userlevel > item.userlevel else self.userlevel > item end end (other operators are overloaded in essentially the same way). As I understand it, using the operator ">" inside the overloaded

model mixin module madness
If I have several models which exhibit the same functionality, it seems makes sense to create a mixin, ''include'' it in each model and save myself some work and repeated code. Where can I define a module which will be available to all models? I can''t seem to find a documented place for them. Alternatively, is there a Rails-standard way of achieving the effect? Ben

how do I test links in templates?
Hello everyone! Sorry, if it''s stupid question, but I can''t figure out how to do this. I have a set of statements, for example, ''login page should have a link to register new user'' and ''login page should have a link to password recovery''. How do I transform it into tests? Where it should go? It does not look like functional tests or

Conditional statement style
This is a bit of a nuby question methinks but i''ve had a play/search around and it''s just bugging me now :0) Say I have a conditional statement, testing a variable against a number of values. The first way i did this is like so: if myvar != "" and myvar != 0 and myvar != nil # .. code end This seems a bit messy - is there neater way of doing this? I thought of:

Having trouble testing :( "superclass mismatch" and can't load "test_helper"
I''m having trouble testing my Rails 3 application. Unit testing doesn''t work. If I try ruby article_test.rb directly, I get a "no such file to load" error, and if I try rake test:units or ruby unit/ article_test.rb I get this odd "superclass mismatch for class ArticlesController" error! I''m hoping I can get this settled... My test files were

FireFly Problems
How come FireFly doesn't give me an Inband DTMF option? Only RFC2833 and Info. RFC2833 is the default, so I left it that way. I also unchecked all the codecs except g711ulaw to force that codecs usage. However, when I go to place a call, I get this: Nov 3 13:18:44 WARNING[53641241]: dsp.c:1468 ast_dsp_process: Inband DTMF is not supported on codec G.711 u-law. Use RFC2833 Nov 3 13:18:44

Test errors
I''m working on learning user auth and ran a test/unit/test.rb and seem to have stumbled across some errors. This is from a tutorial on the web and I pretty much copied the code and checked syntax so not sure where it''s wrong. I thought I''d throw it out since I"m new to ROR and the error didn''t look too bad ;), perhaps someone would have a better

''Series'' Pluralization
Howdy, I have a model I called ''content_series''. I created it and noticed that Rails called it ''Sery'', so I added ''series'' to the uncountable thing in the config, like this: Inflector.inflections do |inflect| # inflect.plural /^(ox)$/i, ''\1en'' # inflect.singular /^(ox)en/i, ''\1'' #

maddening intermittent failures in unit tests with "working" code
Hi all, This testing problem has been a sink for time today, and is still unresolved. Basically I have some unit tests that test simple functions (example below) that depend on join operations in a habtm relationship, and I suspect I am getting "false" failures, i.e ones that do not logically make any sense. I need fresh sets of eyes to take a look and see if I''m mising

Scaffold Generation Problem
Greetings all, I''m sure there is probably a very obvious reason for the following problem. However, after much hair pulling, I am just not seeing it yet. As you can see from the trace below, I am not able to complete scaffold generation due to some problem between rails and mysql. I double checked MySQL to make sure both my Ruby user and Root user have full rights to the database.
