Dynamic Select Box
Hi, I''m new to rails/ruby having come from PHP and am just starting to get my head round how easy it can be :) However, can anyone point me in the right direction for dynamicaly updating a select box based upon the choice of a previous select box, without a page refresh. Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

AJAX & Partials
Hi, looking to see if I''m on the right track here... we''re selling widgets to customers, but there are a number of different type of widgets and each different type of widget has a number of parameters that the customer can specify, in effect each customer orders widget''s customised in ways particular to that specific order. We use STI to store each different widget

Here''s my crazy question of the day. Has anybody played around with using Rails to create Mac OS X Dashboard Widgets? Or is that just sick and wrong? Giles

Reset events after ajax update
Avoiding real work I decided to try and clean up my html and remove my inline onclick handlers for Ajax.Updater calls. Here''s the inline method I''ve been using: http://hank.org/demos/ajax-inline.html Now, here''s using <script> sections to apply the behavior. http://hank.org/demos/ajax.html (firefox only) Since the links (tabs) are inside the

Ajax Tabs
hi railers, I have a model/view/controller with many associations (20+). I would like to display the relative associations using AJAX, allowing the user to display the association his/her is interesting at a particular time. Is here any kind ajax tabs helper or some kind of tab widgets that I can easily incorporate into my rails application. regards, leon -------------- next part --------------

R GUI considerations (was: R, Wine, and multi-threadedness)
Hello, Following a discussion initiated on r-devel, that mentions SciViews-R and other GUIs issues for R, I would like to make comments (and would be happy if these comments would initiate interesting initiatives). A big, big problem with SciViews-R is that a part of it is written in Visual Basic 6, a M$$$$ language, not supported any more, buggy, non transposable to other platforms, etc,

Controller Spec & DataMapper Chaining
Hi there, I''m fairly new to RSpec, and DataMapper and I''m trying to write a controller spec for an index action that will include DM query chaining. Here is a very simplified version of the Controller#index I''m working on def index @widgets = Widget.all(:order => [ :name.asc ]) if params[:alpha] @widgets = @widgets.by_alpha(params[:alpha]) elsif

Combo Box Wdget for Tcl/Tk under R
Hi, I have two questions: First, does anyone know how to put a combobox inside a GUI made with Tcl/Tk ? I think there isn't a simple way to do this (a command like tkcombobox()!), but is it possible to write a more complex code to achieve this ? Second, when I put two listboxes in the same window or frame (even in two different toplevel windows), I cannot select things in the two lists

join tables and position (acts_as_list)
I''m working on some schema for a new project that we''ll be doing in rails (our first rails project!). A recurring structure we are seeing is the desire to define an ordering any way we wish, so ''acts_as_list'' comes to the rescue. But, the ''position'' column seems to need to belong in the join table to make sense. For example, we have

Need Help with StatET Error/Bug? on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
Hi, I posted this message on the StatET-user board last week, but it looks like a ghost-town... I have a bad feeling that there is some code in the plug-in which doesn't work well with my environment, but if I am lucky, maybe other users have worked around this problem somehow - I am hoping that my setup is the issue. Note: very similar StatET setups on 32-bit XP Pro and Vista run

Changing tables within rails app
Hi, I want to know if my idea is possible within the rails framework. I want to write a rails app that uses the same code to manage two classes of widgets; "wired widgets" and "wireless widgets". For the most part, all the code to manage these two classes of widgets will be identical. The only differing part are some of the underlying field names in each respective db table

Newbie question on has_many
I have two classes: a Widget and a User. The User has an id that is referenced in two places on the Widget: owner_id and operator_id. How should I structure that reference for has_many? Thanks folks - I appreciate any help on this. --David --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails:

using StatEt IDE for Eclipse
Hi, I'm trying to use StatEt IDE for Eclipse as my R editor, but I'm completely lost. I've read all I could find online, made apparently all I had to do (installing rj, configuraing StatEt, etc.) but still cannot make R running. Below is the error log file. Thank you so much for assistance. Matteo !ENTRY de.walware.statet.r.console.ui 1 0 2011-12-05 16:21:51.355 !MESSAGE

Rails integration tests without stories
I''m looking to drive the development of a rails app that does nothing but serve a JSON API. All of the models are well tested elsewhere, so I needn''t worry about that. My only immediate goal is to be able to fire off requests to a path and check the returned JSON. I''ve tried a number of methods for this today, without being particularly enthused about any of them. I

Admin Console
Hello again, I''m going to be releasing the administrative console (alpha) either tomorrow or Thursday. The reason I have not yet released it is that I''m in the process of migrating the entire system to AJAX, which has uncovered a few structural issues with the code that weren''t rearing their heads in the non-AJAXed version. I still need to make a few modifications,

RDoc Dashboard Widget
Hi everyone - sorry if this is a bit OT, I''m not subscribed to the ''ruby-talk'' list, but if anyone wants to cross post this over there... This is just a quick announcement to let people know that I''ve built a basic RDoc Dashboard widget for Mac OS X Tiger. It''s still beta-ish, but seems to work okay for me - and it''s a convenient reference

testing behaviour or testing code?
hypothetical question for all you BDD experts: I want to make sure that a :list action always returns widgets in alphabetical order. There''s at least 2 ways of doing this: it "should fetch items in alphabetical order" do Widget.should_receive(:find).with(:order => "name ASC") get :list end it "should fetch items in alphabetical order" do [:red,

sizer support for colspan > 1?
I see that GridBagSizer is not yet supported by wxRuby. Is there an alternative to specifying that a widget spans more than one column? I don''t see a way to do that in FlexGridSizer. -- R. Mark Volkmann Partner, Object Computing, Inc.

[PLUG] new plugin, acts_as_modified
Nothing special, just my first plugin. it came out of a request I saw on the list from someone who wanted to be able to tell if a model''s attributes had changed prior to being saved. Well, this plugin does just that (at least I hope it does). http://rubyforge.org/projects/actsasmodified/ Please see the README for details. Constructive comments and criticisms are appreciated. Chris
