Dovecot + DRBD/GFS mailstore
Hi guys, I'm looking at the possibility of running a pair of servers with Dovecot LDA/imap/pop3 using internal drives with DRBD and GFS (or other clustered FS) for the mail storage and ext3 for the root drive. I'm currently using maildrop for delivery and Dovecot imap/pop3 with the stores over NFS. I'm looking for better performance but still keeping the HA element I have now with

AoE LVM2 DRBD Xen Setup
Hello everybody, I am in the process of setting up a really cool xen serverfarm. Backend storage will be an LVMed AoE-device on top of DRBD. The goal is to have the backend storage completely redundant. Picture: |RAID| |RAID| |DRBD1| <----> |DRBD2| \ / |VMAC| | AoE | |global LVM VG| / | \ |Dom0a| |Dom0b| |Dom0c| | |

Xen, GFS, GNBD and DRBD?
Hi all, We're looking at deploying a small Xen cluster to run some of our smaller applications. I'm curious to get the lists opinions and advice on what's needed. The plan at the moment is to have two or three servers running as the Xen dom0 hosts and two servers running as storage servers. As we're trying to do this on a small scale, there is no means to hook the

Xen with DRBD, mount DRBD device / Filesystem type?
Hi everyone, I´m using Citrix XenServer with DRBD. But something went really wrong, so I need a fresh Install. My only question is, how can I mount the DRBD partition? It is /dev/drbd1 , but if I try to mount it, I need to provide the filesystem type. Does anyone know what I have to do? I only need to copy some data from it, it doesn’t matter if it will be destroyed. I tried GFS as filesystem

DRBD+GFS - Logical Volume problem
Hi list. I am dealing with DRBD (+GFS as its DLM). GFS configuration needs a CLVMD configuration. So, after syncronized my (two) /dev/drbd0 block devices, I start the clvmd service and try to create a clustered logical volume. I get this: On "alice": [root at alice ~]# pvcreate /dev/drbd0 Physical volume "/dev/drbd0" successfully created [root at alice ~]# vgcreate

Xen SAN Questions
Hello Everyone, I recently had a question that got no responses about GFS+DRBD clusters for Xen VM storage, but after some consideration (and a lot of Googling) I have a couple of new questions. Basically what we have here are two servers that will each have a RAID-5 array filled up with 5 x 320GB SATA drives, I want to have these as useable file systems on both servers (as they will both be

DRBD,GFS2 and GNBD without all clustered cman stuff
Hi all, Where i want to arrive: 1) having two storage server replicating partition with DRBD 2) exporting via GNBD from the primary server the drbd with GFS2 3) inporting the GNBD on some nodes and mount it with GFS2 Assuming no logical error are done in the last points logic this is the situation: Server 1: LogVol09, DRDB configured as /dev/drbd0 replicated to Server 2. DRBD seems to work

Recover botched drdb gfs2 setup .
Hi. The short story... Rush job, never done clustered file systems before, vlan didn't support multicast. Thus I ended up with drbd working ok between the two servers but cman / gfs2 not working, resulting in what was meant to be a drbd primary/primary cluster being a primary/secondary cluster until the vlan could be fixed with gfs only mounted on the one server. I got the single server

interesting installation problem - interaction between drbd and xen
Hi, I''ve been building up a new HA system, running Xen on DRBD devices. Configuration this applies to: Debian Lenny xen-linux-system-2.6.26-2-xen-686 package |**|drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-686 drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-xen-686 As I''ve been building the system, I ran into an interesting problem, with two symptoms: 1. running VMs would come back up after a reboot, but would hang on

Hello all, has someone worked with DRBD (http://www.drbd.org) for HA of mail storage? if so, does it have stability issues? comments and experiences are thanked :) Thanks, Rodolfo.

gnbd vs drbd
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Up until now, I have been using drbd for file custers with great success. Yes, it is a PITA, and sometimes you can get annoying sincronization issues (mostly on lab situations). Now I have been considering giving gnbd (with cs/gfs) a try. Do any of you ever crossed this path ? Any comparisons or comments ? TIA, - -- Rodrigo Barbosa "Quid

drbd 8 primary/primary and xen migration on RHEL 5
Greetings. I''ve reviewed the list archives, particularly the posts from Zakk, on this subject, and found results similar to his. drbd provides a block-drbd script, but with full virtualization, at least on RHEL 5, this does not work; by the time the block script is run, the qemu-dm has already been started. Instead I''ve been simply musing the possibility of keeping the drbd

domU custom kernel: Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
Hello, To compile a custom kernel, I downloaded 2.6.29.1 from kernel.org and followed the tutorial at: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Kernel.org_Linux_on_Xen Used a supposedly working .config file for the compilation (generated by my provider to compile his xenU kernels), set /dev/xvd* device nodes both in the domU conf file (disk, root): disk = [

Xen Remus DRBD dual primary frozen
Dear all, I have sent this problem earlier but maybe its not detail, here I try to write more detail. I hope anybody can help me to point out the problem. First of all I used Ubuntu 12.04 x64 both for domain0 and domainU with modification to run under xen hypervisor and work with remus. I follow and configured the remus with this notes

LVM over Xen + Network
Hi, We are planning to have LVM being used over a network of 3 h/w machines(500 GB Disk each) Each hardware machine will have 2-3 domUs. Can we store these domUs as a Logical Volumes stored across Network of these 3 machines? Can one DomU exceed the 500 GB (physical drive size) and store say 1 TB of data across the networked Physical Volumes? Has anyone done this before? Thanks and regards,

cs & gfs
Hi all, I was informed[1] that gfs & rhcs packages are in the works but that there are some problems with the code. What are these problems? Can we do anything to help test / solve them? Xen and drbd after reboot
Hi, sometimes, especially after a kernel upgrade, I need to reboot the xen host. All the VM''s are mirrored to another machine by using drbd. If the machine comes back after a reboot, the drbd devices are all in secondary mode, and therefore, the VM''s cannot start. I have to issue a "drbdadm primary" for every VM first. (I cannot use "drdadm primary all") Of

Mail server setup for small ISP
Hi, I will probably have to design an e-mail (and other components) infrastructure for a small ISP soon (WISP). I'm doing some research to determine which components would be best to offer e-mail services to their client and allow the staff to manage accounts easily. I usually use virtual machines a lot for isolation and easy backups and migration (when a hardware node is
