Using tun interface with dladm and flowadm
Hello,
I am a rather new user to OpenSolaris and I have been loving every minute of
it. I have spent quite a lot of time looking around for bandwidth management
features and Project Crossbow is just amazing. It is truly amazing compared
to what Linux has to offer.
I would like to use flowadm to do some bandwidth management on a tun
interface. The problem is that it is not recognized by the dladm

Giving a domU direct access to a NIC
Hello,
I am experimenting with Snort and other IDS and I would like to use Xen for
these tests. This would require me to use port mirroring to sent a bunch of
packets to a NIC located on my Xen machine.
I don''t really know how Xen networking works, but is it possible to give a
domU direct access to a NIC ? Or at least give it enough access so that it
can see packets that are not for the

[RFC] Transcendent Memory ("tmem"): a new approach to physical memory management
At last year''s Xen North America Summit in Boston, I gave a talk
about memory overcommitment in Xen. I showed that the basic
mechanisms for moving memory between domains were already present
in Xen and that, with a few scripts, it was possible to roughly
load-balance memory between domains. During this effort, I
discovered that "ballooning" had a lot of weaknesses, even

Windows 2000 DomU
Hello,
I am doing tests to convert old rotting servers into a big shiny new Xen
platform. I have been able to migrate a Windows 2003 server without a
scratch. I am trying to do the same thing with Windows 2000 Server but
things aren''t so great...
I made an image from the disk that worked in a machine. Then I boot on this
image using Xen. Windows 2000 starts to boot up then give me a

Xen 4.0 - No console prompt after booting domU but functional SSH
Hello xen-users !
I am coming for help concerning the just released 4.0 version. Install has
worked rather well on my Debian Lenny. I have just had a few bugs for which
I have found the answer looking around on this list.
I have created a Debian Lenny domU which boots up just fine. The only
problem is that I am unable to get a console prompt when using "xm console
nameofdomU". I do see

Bye bye Mr tmem guy
Hi Linux kernel folks and Xen folks --
Effective July 5, I will be resigning from Oracle and "retiring"
for a minimum of 12-18 months and probably/hopefully much longer.
Between now and July 5, I will be tying up loose ends related to
my patches but also using up accrued vacation days. If you have
a loose end you''d like to see tied, please let me know ASAP and
I will do my

Unable to add point and print drivers
Hello,
We have been using samba 4.0.9 with good success so far and are looking to add the ability for users to print from network printers shared by Samba.
The printing part works fine using coupling with lp and cups. In order to automate this fully for the users, we would like to enable point and print drivers.
The print$ share is accessible with no issues and is configured as below :

[PATCH 0/9] tmem: Add transcendent memory to hypervisor
This patch series implements the hypervisor portion
of transcendent memory as described at
http://oss.oracle.com/projects/tmem
Tools patches to follow.
All patches are sent as attachments as my mailer tends
to mess with attached text. Apologies to those for
whom this is inconvenient.

Multi-partition domain not recognizing extra partitions
Hello,
I have been having an annoying problem with a multi-partition domain. This
domain has a separate partition for : /, /home, /usr, /var, /tmp and /data.
I created it using xen-tools and the custom partitionning scheme option. The
partitions are inside a LVM.
When I boot the domain, it mounts the / and swap partition but none of the
others. Therefore it doesn''t work... I get the

"dynamic memory allocation" for windows guests?
Hello,
In our office we would like to do something like "memory overcommitment" or rather "dynamic allocation" for a bunch of windows domUs (server 2003 & 2008).
We thought this should be a simple feature, however we did not find any fitting solution.
We use Xen 4.2.1 with xl toolstack.
The idea is to use ballooning to dynamically (and automatically) change physical

Balloon driver for Linux/HVM
Hi,
I have noticed that, in the code of linux/drivers/xen/balloon.c, there exists the snippet as this:
static int __init balloon_init(void)
{
unsigned long pfn;
struct page *page;
if (!xen_pv_domain())
return -ENODEV;
.....
}
Does it means the driver will not work in HVM? If so, where is the HVN-enabled code for that?

problem with dom0_min_mem on vm creation
Hi List,
I get the following error when trying to create a new vm. There is
1024MB total physcial memory on the machine with 320MB used.
Error: I need 1045876KiB, but dom0_min_mem is 1048576 and shrinking to
1048576 KiB would leave only 1021888 KiB free.
Thanks in advance

Windows 8.1 64-bit printer sharing issue
Hello,
We have setup a Samba 4.1.0 server that has worked great so far.
We have a printer share that is set up so that our users access the printers around the office directly via a central location. It is setup so that the users' computers can get the driver directly from the print server. We use CUPS to manage the printers. It is deployed via GPO.
It works great for Windows 7 32-bit and

Cannot allocate Memory
Any of you guys ever seen an issue with Xen 4.4 were xm cannot create a
guest because of what looks like an issue allocating memory even though
xm info shows like 5x the amount of free memory needed? We are still
unfortunately still using xm... it's on my list, i know..
We've had this happen on a couple hosts now. Only way to resolve seams
to be rebooting the host. I'm going to

I generated my own DomU guest using opensuse''s yast dirinstall and stored it

understanding dom0 usage memory
Hi guys,
First of all, sorry for my poor english.
This is my first message at this list. I''m using Xen on several machines
since last November.
Right now I''m having a specific problems with 2 servers: both are losing
the network on dom0 but all guest systems are still running fine.
Looking at those dom0 logs I''ve discovered that sometimes linux kernel
