Symlinks in Capistrano?
I have a few projects with large directories (say, user-uploaded files) that make using Capistrano a bit awkward. However, I suspect that I may have reached the "write a custom task" level. (I suppose I''m just thinking out loud, here...) It seems as though I''d want this directories symlinked in /shared... Maybe there''s a way to extend the

Application Design
I have a question about how to implement a design in Rails. I will try to make this as easy to follow as possible. First, let''s say that I have an ''Orders'' table that has different statuses. The 3 statuses that I want to track are ''Submitted'', ''Approved'', and ''Purchased''. I also have 3 users of this application.

Transactions and migrations (lots of records)???
Hi all - I know this must be really easy to do, but I can''t for the life of me figure it out. I have about 100,000 rows I need to migrate over into rails using a migration. Right now, I select all of them out of the old database and do a series of: ... new.col = old.col ... new.save ... Problem is each one is it''s own transaction. And it''s slow. I''d

The perfect development environment?
I am trying to create the perfect development environment for rails and i dont know exactly which way to go. Do i create a windows environment or a *nix environment. If i go *nix, what distro is best suited for rails. I would be using mysql, so that would come in to play. If i go *nix, i would use apache. Any ideas for the right environment would be greatly appreciated. I guess the major choice is

Write/Display AR query as Grouped Results?
I''ve got a publications table that contains an author_id foreign key and a pubrole_id foreign key. What I want to do is query the DB using AR so that I can get a list of all publications that belong_to a particular author, and group the results by the pubrole.role_name (Author, Joint Author, Editor, etc.) so that the results look something like: Author book1 info book2 info etc.

Samba 3.0.22 PDC trusting Active Directory 2003
I'm a longtime Samba user and admin (since 1.7) and I thought I had seen just about everything until Active Directory 2003 (native mode) completely took out our Samba user authentication (each server auth=domain to an AD 2000 domain). We have Samba running on a variety of servers (AIX, HP, Linux) and need to be able to provide our users with the ability to access their appropriate shares

symbolic linking
I have a number directories under /opt on computer jack. I want some (not all) of them to appear in /opt on computer jill. I have the /opt directory on jack mounted on jill under /mnt/jack If I go into the /opt directory on jill and do this: ln -s /mnt/jack/opt/files . I get /opt/files/files on jill. What I want is /opt/files and I can't see what I'm doing wrong. -- MELVILLE

Force user
Hello list The Samba Howto Collection repeatedly asserts that by setting the sticky bit on directories any files created in those directories will be created with the owner set to that of the directory (for example, see http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/AccessControls.html#id2541262). This has never worked for me. Files created inherit the group of the directory, but not the owner.

paste adjacent elements matching string
Hi all, I would like to combine elements of a vector: vec <- c("astring", "b", "cstring", "d", "e") > vec [1] "astring" "b" "cstring" "d" "e" such that for every element that contains "string" at the end, it is combined with the next element, so that I get this:

how to have 'match' ignore no-matches
Hi all, I think this is a very basic question, but I'm new to this so please bear with me. I'm using match to translate elements of a data frame using a lookup table. If the content of a particular cell is not found in the lookup table, the function returns NA. I'm wondering how I can just ignore those cells, and return the original contents if no match is found in the lookup table.

using pagination to group pages by attribute value
Hi - I''m trying to group records based on some attribute they or an association of their''s have. The simplest example I could think of to drive my point is this: Assume the following model associations (pardon my butchering of rails) - Faculty has_many :courses Course belongs_to :faculty I want to paginate courses based on the name of the faculty they belong to. an object of class lm returned by lm?
Can someone tell me what an object of class lm returned by lm means? I assumed it mean the regression model - but I'm not sure how to enter this in. I have tried y~a+b but this is not working. I have also tried saving the regression results and entering these, but again this is incorrect. This language is from the following: lm.LMtests(model, listw, zero.policy=FALSE,

[LLVMdev] question about PRE
Hi, I am Jill, I'm new here and new with llvm. I find that its old PRE.cpp has been removed from llvm-1.9 and the project homepage says that a GVN-PRE pass is being implemented. Since many PRE algorithms have been suggested, and I think PRE further differs according to the specific defination of equivalence, whether it is an "optimal" algorithm and optimal at what metric, etc, can I

"Samba-3 by Example" now available
Hi All, Thanks to everyone who has written wanting more information on when "Samba-3 by Example" by John Terpstra will be available. The good news is that it is available right now through your local bookstore or online sites like Amazon.com. There are already a couple of very positive comments posted to Amazon. These indicate that if you want to get Samba-3 up and running, you'll
