xenballooning
As I understand concept of xenballooning, it allow to take memory from guest and return it to hypervisor. This allow to reduce amount of memory allocated to VM in realtime without rebooting VM. But how we can add more memory to guest VM in realtime, than was at boot time? Can we somehow make balloon inflated at start time? (F.e. VM starts with memory = 512Mb and balloon inflating to +512Mb).

making scsi disks visible to RHEL 5 guest
Hi, I created an HVM type virtual machine and installed RHEL5U7 guest in it. I have assigned 7 scsi disks to the virtual machine in physical mode (using phy:), however, I see those disks are xvd and not as scsi. Is anyone aware what the problem might be ? Please let me know what kind of information do I need to post in order to narrow down to the problem. Thanks, K

Where does PyGrub run?
Hello, I am still confused: does pyGrub run in dom0 as root? as it says in here: "PyGRUB used to act as a “PV bootloader”: it runs in dom0 as root, opens the PV disk image, reads its GRUB menu.lst, presents a GRUB-like menu to let the user choose a kernel which it copies to the dom0 filesystem, it then closes the disk image and eventually tells the domain builder to use that copy. New Install Plan Help - NIC Requirements
I would like to understand what may be needed/useful for the system NIC. My plan is to use an Asus mb, Sabertooth or Crosshair.  They both have a single on-board Ethernet port.  I am wondering about the possibility/need to have a 2-port plug-in NIC.  A scenario is to have a domU Windows or Linux SVN/Apache/PostgreSQL VM and interact with it through another domU Windows or Linus VM.  I also may

How do I resize a Physical Partition in a Dom U that''s "on" a Logical Volume in the Dom 0?
Hey all, I''m trying to figure out how to re-size physical partitions in the Dom U. I''ve read up what I can find on line and finally decided to have Logical Volumes in the Dom 0 and pass them as physical volumes for use in the Dom U. Here''s an example of what I''m doing. To start in the Dom 0 I created the LV''s with lvcreate -n guest_boot -L 100M

OT: Staging startups for dependent machines
It''s a bit OT for this list, but I''m sure people here will have dealt with it. Does anyone have any suggestions for simple methods of staging machine (Linux in my case) startups when there are interdependencies ? Eg, most of my servers rely on the DNS, so it would be nice if they could wait till the DNS is running before starting - otherwise I end up having to log in and

Now I need to setup routed networking for the rest of domU''s. I just changed the configuration in xend-config.sxp and restarted Xen. Routing started to work, while there are still

newbie questions: copying and cloning xen vm
Hi all, I started studying xen to implement some HA cluster hosting multiple guests. I am realizing that xen does not provide any native way to hot-clone or hot-backup a guest. Am I right ? Is there any way to how backup a virtual machine? Or is suspend - copy - resume the only possible tecnique ? Is there any way to clone a virtual machine? Do vm snapshots exists? Thank you for every answer!

Query - Issue creating VMs when not using bridge that Xen created, but using ovswitch.
*Hello,* I have installed Xen as Hypervisor with OpenSUSE running in Dom0. I want to use ovswitch (ovs) instead of the bridges that Xen created. In order to do so, I installed ovs in dom0 just like for the plain Linux. Xen has replaced eth0 with peth0, and has created a bridge named eth0. And eth0 is connected peth0 interface , vif2.0 interface (VM), and everything is working fine. Now I delete
