Unable to install R 3.1.2 on Debian:Testing
Hi Mathieu,
thanks for contributing your tips on apt pinning on Debian testing. I have
included similar instructions in the Debian README for the situation where
testing was frozen. This time I thought I would get around to provide proper
binaries for testing quickly enough, but I need to get some other work done,
so I am lagging behind here.
If someone could provide some lines with nice

Ubuntu tutorial
I''ve submitted the following to howtoforge.com for approval. My plan
is to create similar docs for OpenBSD, RHEL and installing from
source. I''d certainly appreciate comments on how to improve the
document, and feedback on errors.

Ruby 1.8.4 on Debian stable
Has anyone managed to find a nice and easy way of upgrading to Ruby 1.8.4
on Debian stable? I''m not too adverse to installing an extra repository,
and would like to avoid compiling it myself. Stability isn''t a *major*
issue; this machine won''t be in ''real'' production.
There''s nothing particularly obvious when searching Google.

Why Does Ruby on Debian Blow? (Was: Mongrel 3.15,
I had no problems.
It pretty much boils down to three steps:
1) Install Ruby via deb.
2) Install ruby gems using the instructions for installing ruby gems.
3) Install rails and everything else via gems.
browse the following write-up:
http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html
Follow the instructions for installing the Ruby deb, and a few others.
(You can do it all in one line)
Then follow the

Samba server fails to save settings
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for your help, I have been suspecting Suse's Yast too!
Is there a samba configuration GUI tool I can use to launch it independent of Yast? This would help to chase yet another problem!
Kind regards,
Aref

Open SUSE 64 bit fix
You just never know where your help is going to come from. :-)
This is via a reminder to me from some PLUG members.
I am passing this along because it worked for me.
1. Delete all the wine copies, source, compiled, and rpm
2. Delete all the FreeGLUT copies, source, compiled, and rpm
3. Delete the Yast repository for wine that open SUSE automatically makes
4. Go to the open

Which version ? Advice please.
I have got wine 0.9.21-15.1 installed in Suse 10.0, but Yast Online
Update keeps telling me to install 20050725-3.2, as it contains "an
important security update".
I believe 0.9.21-15.1 is the latest version, and I can see how Yast might
be getting confused (I think it was mentioned in this group a while ago),
but could some one please re-assure me that the "security" reason

Samba 4 DC Firewall settings
Samba 4.0.4 on openSUSE 12.3
Hi everyone.
Does anyone have a list of ports which have to be open to allow full DC
operation?
I'm no expert in firewalls and only have Yast at my disposal to
configure it. I've tried opening samba server and DNS server ports via
Yast but I must be missing something because I have to turn off the
firewall to e.g. join a Windows client to the domain.

Mini Samba-SuSE Firewall2 HOWTO
(Please forgive the cross posting; I know many SuSE users subscribe to
both the Samba and SuSE-e discussion groups and will get this message
twice.)
I had always been frustrated trying to get SuSE's Firewall2 to play
nicely with Samba and support seamless network browsing. After much
experimentation and a lot of Googling, I was finally able to get this
working. By "working",

Check your smb.conf. If the changes aren't there, then you'll have to talk

compiz-0.7.6-16.1 - Forces Yast s/w management to full-screen no decorations
Listmates:
For the past 1 or 2 compiz releases, for some reason it opens Yast software
management full-screen with no window decorations in kde.
kwin gives the normal windowed yast s/w management. Compiz also ignores the
special windows settings in kde for this package. Is there anything I can check
or tweak to correct this? Thanks.

Samba server fails to save settings
Hello,
I am trying to add shares by configuring the server through Yast on an
OpenSuse Tumblweed and KDE desktop on a Dell machine.
The Samba package is version 4.9.1 on a i586 (32-bit) architecture.
After making changes using the Samba Server GUI invoked from Yast I press OK
and come out. But none of the changes are saved.
I would be grateful if some could help.
Kind regards,

Xen Installation Problem
Hi All,
When I was tring to use Yast(Opensuse 11.1) to Create Virtual Machine, Yast
can start the virtual machine installation process but cannot find any disk,
so the installation fails. I encountered the same problem when installing
Windows XP and Opensuse.
Do I need to create a virtualized disk first? Or how can I specify which
disk to install?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
