vcpu performance : 1 vcpu for all guets or 4 vpcu ?
Hello all ;) Tell I have a Xeon server with 4 vcpus If on this box I have some guets, tell 10, what is the best solutions : - Set all guests to 1 vcpu ? - Set all guests to 4 vcpus ? I well understand that if I set a guest with 4 vcpus and all others only with one vpcus, then the one with 4 vcpus will have more "cpu time" available than others guests. But in case I''d like

CPU enumeration
Hello, Is it possible to alter how XCP enumerates multi-core cpu’s such that a Vcpu represents a “socket”, rather than a “core”? A server with dual quad core processors, no HT, presents each of the 8 cores as a Vcpu to the guest. Windows Server 2008 R2 see’s each Vcpu as a unique “socket” and we are therefore coming up against licensing issues with Windows and more importantly SQL Server 2008

hotplug vcpu problem to Centos 5.2 DomU
My dom0 is uing Centos 5.2 x64. I have just upgraded Xen from 3.3.0 to 3.3.1. After upgraded, I find that I cannot hotplug additional vcpu anymore. I have a domU "linux1" which is a paravirtualized vm with centos 5.2. I try to "xm vcpu-set linux1 4", it does not have any error message, but those vcpu cannot be displayed. I also tried to add vcpu using "virsh setvcpus

HVM ignoring vcpus parameter
Hi, I am using Xen 4 under Debian Squeeze. I want to use Windows 2008 x86 with HVM, but only one vcpu allocated when vm started. After increasing vcpus number (vcpus = ''4'') in cfg, at start ignored that parameter, xm list VCPUs show only 1. Why does not able to increase the vcpus? Any idea?:) p.s: if using pvm linux, then the vcpus parameter is ok, increased successfully when I

Windows Multi-Processor under XEN??
I am running the latest unstable XEN on a 16X Intel XEON machine with HT enabled. I installed W2K3 (x86 version) quite easily but I am having the hardest time getting more than a 1X to work. I change the vcpus in the config file to 4 or 8, but I can never get Windows VM to come up. I''ve tried installing with 4 vcpus. I tried installing with 4 vcpus and manually selecting the MPS HAL

Nested KVM issue
The CPUs are IvyBridge microarchitecture, Xeon E5-2670 v2. I could try lowering the vCPUs but I doubt it would help. Please note that the same VMs are running just fine (with a load of 2 out of an acceptable 36 on the compute node) for about 3 days after a restart. ?n lun., 15 aug. 2016 la 08:42, Boris Derzhavets <bderzhavets at hotmail.com> a scris: > I would attempt to decrease

[PATCH] Fix xm vcpu-set command for when wrong number of VCPU is given
Hi, The xm vcpu-set command is able to set zero to the number of VCPU of a domain. Therefore I think that it is a natural result that the xm start command fails. But I think that a xm vcpu-set command must fail usually. # xm list Name ID Mem VCPUs State Time(s) Domain-0 0 942 2 r----- 75.2 vm1

All, I have been trying to get PCI pass through working for sometime and need to know if I have a hardware problem (does my hardware support PCI pass through) or if I am doing something in correct. 1) My BIOS does allow me to enable VT support 2) *cat /proc/cpuinfo* processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 15 model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU

Squeeze / Xen 4.01 : xm vcpu-set
Hi, I don''t understand something about the vcpu-set function. My configuration: *memory = 2048 cpu = ''1-2'' maxvcpu = 4 vcpus = 1* When the DomU is running, and when i try to set 2 or 3 vpcu i get the error : xm vcpu-set domain_name 2 *Error: Cannot set vcpus greater than max vcpus on running domain Usage: xm vcpu-set <Domain> <vCPUs> Set the number of

[PATCH v3] x86/nhvm: properly clean up after failure to set up all vCPU-s
Otherwise we may leak memory when setting up nHVM fails half way. This implies that the individual destroy functions will have to remain capable (in the VMX case they first need to be made so, following 26486:7648ef657fe7 and 26489:83a3fa9c8434) of being called for a vCPU that the corresponding init function was never run on. Once at it, also remove a redundant check from the corresponding

AW: VCPU amount
Hi, I don''t want to hijack this thread. But as I lately posted a question which mainly was about weight and cap and this fits in perfectly (and also you seem to be an expert here), I repeat it below. In the meantime I saw an academic article Ludmilla Cherkasova et al. from which I understood that you have to careful that a Dom0 doesn''t get too much weight, as otherwise

number of VCPU doesn't change after changing the config file or using the command "xm vcpu-set"
Hello, after installing many guest systems I realised that three of them need more than one core. So I changed the config file with vcpus=2 But that doesn''t help and the command xm vcpu-set ... doesn''t change the actual number of vcpus either. It is weird that the dom0 appears as many as the number of cores if I use "xm vcpu-list": Name

Possible VCPU hotplug bug
I am working on a project that uses OpenMP along with Xen''s VCPU hotplug feature. The OpenMP libraries are used for writing multi-threaded applications, and they have a function named omp_get_num_procs() that is used to determine the number of processors available on the system. I noticed that when using the xm vcpu-set command in Xen to change the number of vcpus assigned to a domU

Xen very very slow on workstation HP Z4000
Hello, To thank you for telling me if this message is not posted on the good list. After installing Xen 4 on a workstation HP Z400, the hypervisor is extremely slow, both on a Fedora machine on a Debian Squeeze, whether in 32-bit or 64-bit version. Unable to install a DomU. The problem seems to come from the hardware configuration of the HP Z400 - Xeon - W3550-4 processors - 16 GB of

About the change of a VM's vcpu count in runtime?
Hi, We know that there is a command "setvcpus" in virsh used to "change number of virtual CPUs", now we just have the need to change vcpu count dynamically for a running VM, so I tried this command (the vcpu count is 2 in the VM xml file), below is the result: virsh # setvcpus 3 --count 4 error: invalid argument: requested vcpus is greater than max allowable vcpus for the
