[Xen-ia64-devel] [PATCH] Add guest_os_type domain config option
On ia64 we have a desire to know the guest OS the user plans to run in an HVM domain. With this information we can make certain optimizations, for instance knowing if a guest identity maps a memory region can change how we handle page faults. In the past we''ve tried to do this via the guest firmware detecting the guest type, but this is error prone and doesn''t allow the user to

Starting basic HVM -- where am I going wrong?
I''ve been using Xen strictly for PV for a while now, but I recently upgraded to hardware capable of HVM domUs. I''m trying to get a really basic HVM instance going so I can get my hands around making them work, in anticipation of using one to run a BSD to act as a firewall for other domUs on the machine. (I like PF.) Also, I might need run windows at some point, I suppose.

Problems creating hvm guest after dom0 reboot
Hi, I have some trouble to create hvm machines. Xen just tell me that the domain creation failed: # xm create /etc/xen/xenwin2008 Using config file "/etc/xen/xenwin2008". Error: Creating domain failed: name=xenwin2008 The last time i had this error there was some trouble with ne vif line, but the configuration worked perfectly until I had to restart my system (and change the netmask

xen-unstable hvm problem
Hi I am trying to install Windows using HVM but I get an error message that is totally useless and I am unable to figure out what the problem is. I just pulled xen-unstable.hg because nothing else supports my CPU yet. So here is what I get when I simply try to create the domain: [2008-05-28 13:55:26 16515] DEBUG (__init_s:1072) XendDomainInfo.create([''vm'',

[PATCH, v2]: xl: move domain struct init functions to libxl
Changes since v1: - Include nic,net2,vkb,vfb init functions --- This allows libxl users to get some sane default values for this complex set of structures. This is purely code movement and there are no functional changes except for a trivial error handling change in nic device init. HVM config for Windows
I found that the example HVM config doesn't work at all on amd64 I used the following, based on various postings I found through Google. Could you include a working example in the package? I think that specifying the full kernel and device_model paths makes a difference on amd64 # Enable hardware virtualisation using HVM kernel = '/usr/lib64/xen-3.2-1/boot/hvmloader' device_model =

HVM Networking Issues
I''ve looked long and hard for an answer to this and am stuck. I have setup a Windows XP DomU on Xen 3.2-1 running on Debian and I can connect fine to the instance via VNC but I get no networking within the windows instance as it says the IP address conflicts with another on the network. All my linux instances network fine, and I''m confused as to the issue. Can anybody provide

Problems with HVM S3
Hello, I am currently trying to suspend a HVM domU via ACPI. However, after "xl trigger vm s3suspend" the virtual machine freezes after 2-3 seconds (I get a prompt at xl console before that!), and keeps printing the following lines: [ 240.428145] INFO: task jbd2/xvda1-8:146 blocked for more than 120 seconds. Xen HVMs run VERY slowly on SAN box
We are running a 2-node cluster with Debian Squeeze (2.6.32-5-xen-amd64) and Xen 4.0.1 on the dom0 and Ubuntu lucid domUs. We are now using fully virtualized (HVM) vms. In our configuration the dom0 administers to domUs created and run on a SAN box accessed via private network (192.168...). A sample configuration file is pasted below. We have had little or no IO problem with HVMs created and

HVM domain can not boot up with Qcow incremental image
Dear,Beg for your help. I am really puzzled with this problem.HVM domain can not boot up with Qcow incremental image(using command: qcow-create size incremental_file original_Qcow_img_file), but it can boot up with the original Qcow disk image file. When using Qcow incremental image, the guest qemu window would disappear before loading grub, and `xm list` can not find this guest domain. The VM

Destroying device model, Xen 4 Windows 2008 domU problem.
Hello, I am using Xen 4 with Debian Squeeze and  trying to virtualize a Windows 2008 Server machine. I''ve followed these instructions: http://alex.mordue.co.uk/blog/?p=85 But once i do:  xm create windows2008.cfg The domU tries to start but then dies in few seconds with these errors: in xend.log: [2011-06-18 14:28:04 2254] INFO (XendDomain:1206) Domain windows2008 (28) unpaused.
