CentOS 5.5 latest revisions seem really slow
I recently updated to OpenOffice 3.2 and I noticed that it, and the
latest Evolution, seem to be incredibly slow for some operations.
E.g., in OO, about half the time when I'm editing something, it takes
anywhere from 10-30 seconds for OO to respond to a click on one of the
icons or menu items, and Evo is taking forever to format messages.
During these times the gnome-system-monitor icon on

SCSI drives and Centos 7
Everyone,
about 4 years ago, I tried to install CentOS 6 on a Supermicro server
with SCSI drives using a LSI raid system. I could never figure out or
find a way to make the installation disc of Centos 6 identify the SCSI
drives. The installation disc for Centos 5 identified the SCSI drives
without a problem. I finally gave up on Centos 6 and installed Centos 5
and the system has worked very

OT: SysAdmin Stories
Hello,
I'm compiling a collection of stories from the systems administrator
trenches. They can be short or long, funny or about a particularly
challenging problem or period, or even something that appeared very
technically challenging and ended up being something very simple. Stories
which are more political would be ok so long as they do not have an agenda
or can be interpreted as a

leap second and Centos
Hi.
We have another leap second coming. Have past bugs with Centos and leap
seconds (specifically high CPU spikes) been resolved? Should we be
worried?

[DAHDI] qozap instead of wcb4xxp
Hello,
?
I have a Cologne Chip Designs GmbH ISDN network Controller [HFC-4S] card which seems to work on 1 machine but not on another. It SHOULD load this driver:

Instead of:
>dahdi_hardware -v

There is no qozap modul in

automated remote cloning
Good morning/day and Happy New Year.
We have a geographically distributed environment (marketing speak: cloud) where we regularly need to migrate individual systems to new hardware (for bigger disks or for better geographical placement, for example). We currently use Cobbler to do our base installs automatically and I am now looking at integrating Clonezilla with Cobbler. The goal is take an

Nagios 3 RPMs
Is anyone working on Nagios 3.x RPMs? If not, perhaps I'll whip some up and
submit them to some appropriate repository.

filesize limitation in CentOS or exim?
Hallo,
today I had a surprising situation. Exim stopped. It's a German centos 5.3 64 Bit installation so the messages are partial in German.
Then I tried a restart:
[root at centos ~]# service exim restart
exim beenden: [FEHLGESCHLAGEN]
exim starten: /bin/bash: line 1: 6596 Die maximale Dateigr??e ist ?berschritten

dm-multipath use
Are folks in the Centos community succesfully using device-mapper-multipath?
I am looking to deploy it for error handling on our iSCSI setup but there
seems to be little traffic about this package on the Centos forums, as far
as I can tell, and there seems to be a number of small issues based on my
reading the dm-multipath developer lists and related resources.

centos IDM + sogo
Hello,
We are testing the Centos LDAP Directory Server but are running into issues
with applications (SOGo) authenticating against the LDAP system. The crux
of my question is, can I just treat the Centos Directory Server as a generic
OpenLDAP configuration on the client side?
In more detail when I try to add account via ldapadd:

Parallel/Shared/Distributed Filesystems
I'm looking at using GFS for parallel access to shared storage, most likely
an iSCSI resource. It will most likely work just fine but I am curious if
folks are using anything with fewer system requisites (e.g. installing and
configuring the Cluster Suite).
Specifically to our case, we have 50 nodes running in-house code (some in
Java, some in C) which (among other things) receives JPGs,

[3.3 beta3] When should the self-heal daemon be triggered?
Hi,
I eventually installed three Debian unstable machines, so I could
install the GlusterFS 3.3 beta3.
I have a question about the self-heal daemon.
I'm trying to get a volume which is replicated, with two bricks.
I started up the volume, wrote some data, then killed one machine, and
then wrote more data to a few folders from the client machine.
Then I restarted the second brick server.

Is there an openssh security problem?
Hello,
is there a security issue on CentOS 5.3 with openssh 4.3? I ask that
cause of

Should ssh login from internet on CentOS better be disabled?

mysql Workbench
Greetings,
Is there a centos repo with mysql workbench anywhere.
In the same vein, is there a publicly available build system for
centos where people can submit the source tar.gz and get hotly baked
rpm and the icing would be with some way to resolve dependencies??
It would be great to have one..
Regards and thanks,

Determine security updates
Hi,
is there a way / software to find out which security patches my
different CentOS systems are missing? Maybe with the according
CESA announcement displayed?
TIA,
