Bug#413601: Xen domUs vs. udev
Package: udev
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-CC: pkg-xen-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org
Hello!
When installing the udev package in a Xen domU, ``strange'' things
happen.
The following is a bit of guesswork, some hard facts are probably
missing, but I hope that the udev and / or Xen maintainers can make some
sense out of it. I'm for now happy with having a usable Xen server
again...

is udev necessary?
Hi all
I recently setup a CentOS 5.2 server, running XEN (using HyperVM), and
then moved the hard drive from my test box to my Intel server. The
problem I now have, is that it doesn't bootup properly. Shortly after
I see the udev service started, the machine reboots. This keeps on
going the whole time.
I have managed to kill udev on start-up (with CTRL + C), and then it boots up.
So, do I

Cannot start xen domUs anymore, domUs hang on kernel startup, happens after a long dom0 uptime
Hello!
I've noticed this problem two times now.. last time I fixed it by rebooting
the (centos 5.1 x86 32b) xen host/dom0.
Symptoms:
- Already running domUs (debian 2.6.18-6-xen-686 32b PAE) continue running
and working OK
- Cannot start new domUs (debian 2.6.18-6-xen-686).. kernel bootup just
hangs before running initrd. Same domU with the exact same xen domU cfgfile worked
earlier.

Bug#619977: xen-utils-common: Missing /etc/udev/rules.d/xend.rules and /etc/udev/rules.d/xen-backend.rules
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.0.0-1
Severity: normal
A strange issue, when deploying Xen using Puppet, /etc/udev/rules.d/xend.rules and /etc/udev/rules.d/xen-backend.rules files are empty.
Specifically, the symlinks point to ../xend.rules and ../xen-backend.rules respectively in /etc/udev, but neither of those files exist.
Manually copying those files from another host that was not

intermittent domU issue: related to udev?
Hello list. My server:
Gentoo 2.6.21-xen dom0
xen-tools 3.2.1
lvm 2.02.28-r2
udev-115-r1
Symptoms: normally I run 4 domUs. About once a week I have a need to
restart a domU. Sometimes it works just fine, but other times it does
not and I''ll get a message back saying "Error: Device 0 (vif) could not
be connected. Hotplug scripts not working". The domU config file has

[PATCH matahari] Replaces the existing HAL code for ProcessorAgent with udev.
Stripped out the HAL support code and replaced with calls to udev. The
remainder of the code to extract CPU details parses through the
/proc/cpuinfo file since udev/sysfs will not return such information.

FC5 -- Xen 3.0.2 -- iptables with dom0 and domU
Situation:
Running a simple UDP client/server program where the client on one domU on
one computer sends echo packets to another domU on another computer,
server sends echoes back. They do this on a specified port (will use any
port between 5000-6000). This program works on non-Xen machines in
various environments, Linux and Solaris. Program just hangs on the domUs.

squeeze, Xen and udev
Hello,
I note the following message on my testing domUs:
Preparing to replace udev 149-2 (using .../archives/udev_150-2_i386.deb) ...
Since release 150, udev requires that support for the CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED
feature is disabled in the running kernel.
Please upgrade your kernel before or while upgrading udev.
Is it anything to worry about? Will there

Remus blktap2 issue
Hello,
I have been playing around with Remus on Xen 4.0.1, attempting to fail-over
for an HVM domU.
I''ve run into some problems that I think could be related to tapdisk2 and
its interaction with how one sets up Remus disk replication in the domU
config file.
A few things I''ve noticed:
-The tap:remus:backupHostIP:port|aio:imagePath notation does not work for
me, although this

Xen HVM domU won't start since updates to 2.6.18-164.15.1 kernels
I have a dom0 machine running CentOS 5.4 with all the latest updates
using Xen as my hypervisor. I am using Xen in part because this machine
was set up prior to KVM being included in RHEL, and in part because
KVM's network bridging configuration is not nearly as simple as Xen's.
The dom0 machine is a headless Mac Mini and I do all of my VM management
via virsh from the command line. I

working config for xen which would transfer a serial interface
Hello
Can anyone share a known working config for xen which would
transfer a serial interface ( add-on card preferably, mine uses
e880-e887 : 0000:03:05.0 / ec00-ec07 : 0000:03:05.0 ) to a DomU ?
I've been trying with the stock packages from Centos 5.5 ( fully
updated) and also with gitco's 3.4.3 but after 2 days of googling and
testing we still fail to access the serial

ZFS pool not imported on boot on Solaris Xen PV DomU
Hi,
I am trying a setup with a Linux Xen Dom0 on which runs an OpenSolaris 2008.05 DomU.
I have 8 hard disk partitions that I exported to the DomU (they are visible as c4d[1-8]p0)
I have created a raidz2 pool on these virtual disks.
Now, if I shutdown the system and I start it again, the pool is not automatically imported during the boot.
If I type zpool status, I can''t see it, so I do a

Lockup problem, watchdog, other ways to debug?
Hi,
I have been trying to figure out why my Supermicro X7DWA-N with dual
Xeon E5420''s locks up occasionally when running Xen, I''ve tried 3.2.1
and 3.3 with the Xensource 2.6.18 kernel, with gentoo 2.6.21, and
2.6.25 and 2.6.27 kernels patched with suse xen patches, every single
combination suffers from occasional lockups :(, I am reasonably
confident that the hardware is ok
