text_field_with_auto_complete doesn|t work in edit/show view
Hi,
I am using the autocomplete for text field with ''Scriptaculous'' and it
works perfectly fine in "new" action.
All the examples I see are only for the "new" action.
But doesn''t default to the selected value/text in "edit/show" action? Is
this possible or should I write custom code for "edit/show" action?
Thanks, Hari

Migration::alter statements ??
Hi,
Where to put the execute statements in migration scripts?
e.g, I would like to create a table and add a foreign_key reference.
def self.up

create_table :my_table do |t|
t.column :user, :string
end
?? execute "alter table ...."
end
Should the execute statement be above the table creation or below the table
creation? Logically I

Interactive debugging of rails models
Hi, How can I debug the models interactively?
When I load the console using "ruby script/console", the changes in the
models doesn''t get reflected. I have exit the console and reload the
console everytime I make some changes.
Is there a better way?
Thanks, Hari

Determining Browser?
Is there a way I can read the user agent or something similar to
determine whether the person is using IE, Mozilla/Netscape, Opera,
Safari, etc? I want to dynamically output the CSS to the browser, but
I''d like to change certain things (in this case the widths of some
divs since IE adds borders and padding size to the total size of a div
unlike firefox).
Thanks,

ActiveRecord attribute= overload
I want to overload the = operator for one of the attributes in a model
to run a filter on the input. However I can''t do this:
def attribute=(data)
self.attribute = filter(data)
end
because that creates an infinite recursive loop.
How do I get around this?

Cheers,

Simplest way to demonstrate a RoR app
Hi,
I have built a simple RoR application and would like to show it to some
friends.
I would like to assign a dyndns URI like "myapp.dyndns.org" address to
point to the application.
As the WEBrick/Mongrel servers are running in "localhost (so loopback
connections)" and I couldn''t bind them to the external server name or
couldn''t bind them to my IP

HTML Parsing libraries
Hi,
What is the best way to parse HTML?
Or is there a simple way to convert a table to an array?
I tried beautiful_soup and the built-in htmltools, but have trouble
getting them to run.
Any pointers?
Thanks, Hari

R Scatter plot partially generated in Fedora

I?have installed R?first time in Linux/Fedora. I used the yum command
(yum install R). The installation was successful and went without any
errors. I could also run the following R script without any errors.
But, the generated scatter plot only has three blue dots added through
the first plot(...) statement. It does not show the main title,

How many decimal places of information does R actually use in computation?
Dear R-users:
Hi, I read here (
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2287616/controlling-digits-in-r) that R
is only accurate up to the 15th decimal place, despite the fact that if you
choose to display more decimal places, it will. I wonder if R uses the
information beyond the 15th decimal place in actual computation. Thanks!
Best,
Xiao
