network trouble with asus P5LD2-VM board
I am trying to install centos 4.2 on an Asus P5LD2-VM and cannot for the life of me get networking to work. The installer does not see the onboard Gbit ethernet port nor can I configure at after installation. It gives no errors when I modprobe e1000 to insert the drivers but I cannot "ifup eth0" without getting a "device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying

function kde2d
Good evening, I am Marta Colombo, student at Milan's Politecnico. Thank you very much for your kindness, this mailing list is really useful. I am using the function kde2d for two-dimensional kernel density estimation and I'd like to know something more about this kind of density estimator. In particular I'd like to know: what bandwidth is used ? Thank you in advance for your attention

Robust fitting
Good evening,I am Marta Colombo, student of "Politecnico di Milano". I'm studying Local Regression Techniques such as loess, smoothing splines and kernel smoothers. Choosing "symmetric" for the argument "family" in loess function it is possible to produce a robust estimate , in function smooth.spline and ksmooth I didn't find this possibility. Well, is there a

Centos and RadeonHD 4570
Hi guys, Recently I've done a bad bad thing, buying a laptop with an ATI card. The card itself is supposed to be quite decent performance wise, but the ATI drivers still suck a lot. I haven't yet tried booting Centos on this laptop, but I used a Fedora 12 LiveCD. Fedora displays things nicely, but no 3D accel (I like to play OpenArena/Tremulous every now and then). After some serious

Intel i7-940, DX58S0 motherboard, Radeon X1950 Pro video card
This computer is my main desktop machine --- an Intel i7-940 CPU and DX58S0 motherboard with a Radeon X1950 Pro video card. It's currently running Fedora 11 and working just fine. However, I have been slowly moving all of my "computer stuff" off of Fedora and onto Centos, and this (and my Acer Aspire One laptop) are the only Fedora installations that I now have left. Does anyone

display of a loess fitted surface
Good morning, I am Marta Colombo, student at Politecnico,Milan. I am studying local regression models and I am using loess function. My problem is that when I have a loess object I don't know how to display the fitted surface; in fact, while in S when you have a loess object you can see it writing plot(object), in R this dosen't work. Also I'd like to know if there is something like the

fisher.test
Hi! I am Marta Colombo, student in Mathematical Engineering at "Politecnico di Milano". For my master degree thesis I have to analyze some categorical data. My dataset is composed by 327 individuals and 16 variables. I am using Fisher exact test to test independence on IxJ contingency tables, but I have a problem with one variable. R gives me this error message: FEXACT error 7.

Errore : requires numeric/complex matrix/vector arguments
Dear R users,I'm a new user of R. I'm trying to do a LM test an there is this type of error: Error in t(mX) %*% mX : requires numeric/complex matrix/vector arguments. To be clear I write down the code in which mY ( 126,1 ) mX (126,1) mZ(126,1) are matrix. LMTEST <- function(mY, mX, mZ)#mY, mX, mZ must be matrices!#returns the LM test statistic and the degree of freedom{iT =

Quota
Hi, On our servers we have configured an enviroment with LDAP + Samba + Quotas. Working properly for windows hosts in wich are configured shared homes. The same works on Linux hosts with only one exception, the homes are shared with NFS. Now because of security issues we have decided to use samba on both enviroments. And so came the problem: The users of the shares were informed of their quota

Which Nvidia Card ?
I'm a recent convert after a long affair flirting with Linux, I've currently got a Radeon x1950 and I would like to get away from ATI now that I'm sporting Ubuntu 8.04 and I'm curious what Wine users recommend from Nvidia? I can't afford the high end stuff I'm looking at Newegg in the $50 - $100 range, I run Steam Apps mostly, dabbled with WoW and WAR but neither are

I'm using the function "tapply" but I see that if only a NA value is present the result is NA. There is an option to have the correct result or I must use an other function? Thanks of

Calculating total observations based on combinations of variable values
Hello: As someone making the move from STATA to R, I'm finding it difficult at times to perform basic tasks in R, so forgive me if I've missed an obvious and easily obtained solution to my problem. I've searched the help guides and the archives and have not been able to find a solution that works. I have a data frame with thousands of observations that looks something like this:
