dd backup of lv
I have a series of unmounted lv's that are used in xen vm's of various flavors in a lab environment. I made a script that I use to backup all of them prior to doing anything I may need to undo and all I execute is:
dd if=/dev/vgname/lvname of=/dir/name.img
Are there any additional parameters I should use? I haven't tried to restore this into an lv, but I did swap the 'phy'

Batch mode creates huge diffs, bug(s)?
So the short summary of my problem is, the batch file rsync creates is HUGE
for a very small change. The idea is to create workstation image with
partimage, update it with some software and send the image update diff over
the wire to a large number of destinations over a satellite link, but the
batch file updates are several orders of magnitude too large. I don't know
exactly how partimage

How to Backup and Restore MBR within Logical Volumes?
Hi All,
I have several Xen virtual machines within logical volumes using LVM2. I did
not use disk images for performance reasons.
Conventionally, if I want to clone my virtual machines, I have to dd the LV
to an image file. But this consumes a lot of time and harddisk space.
So, instead of doing that, I want to use losetup and kpartx with my logical
volumes, which contain operating systems of

unlist errors on a nested list of empty lists
I do not have access to the bug reporting system. If somebody can get me
access, I can create a formal bug report.
The latter issues seem like duplicates of:
https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=12572 (with slightly
different output), but as that bug was reported nearly 10 years ago, it
might be worth creating an update under R version 3. I could not find the

Forward local5.* to remote syslog-ng server
Ok, I can't quite figure out how to make this work. I want to
simultaneously log everything for facility local5 in a local file and
a remote syslog-ng server. local7 is working fine getting the
boot.log log entries transferred over to the syslog-ng server, but not
so much with local5. Local logging of local5.* on the client is
working fine now.
