collection_select with array as source
I would like to use the collection_select with a simply array as the source
of the collection.
My array looks like this:
STATES = ["Alabama", "Alaska", "Texas"]
and it is stored in my environment.rb
I can''t figure out the syntax for the collection_select in this situation...
collection_select("my_object", "state", what goes here??? )

HABTM and collection_select
Hi,
I''m trying to use collection_select with a habtm relationship. Let''s say
you have two tables: books and authors with a many-to-many relationship.
Is there any way in rails to render something like selection boxes for
each author, so that the user can change them?
I tried this (and several more variations) but it doesn''t work:
<% for @author in @book.authors

HABTM / Dropdown Help Needed
I''m terribly new to Rails, so bear with me.
I have an application I am working on which deals with projects and
subcontractors. There can be several subs on each project and each sub
can work on several projects. I have my join table set up and
has_and_belongs_to_many in both models. If I manually put data in the
join table, this works in my show view:
<% for subcontractor in

Using Ajax.Updater with Form
Hi,
I''m trying to post to a PHP insert script and return the confirmation
text in a div with Ajax.Updater, but I''m having little luck. Does
anyone have any thoughts on my implementation? The page currently
refreshes completely.
Thanks.

collection_select has_and_belongs_to_many update_attributes
I know there have been threads on this before but I was thinking
shouldn''t multiple collection_select automatically update habtm
relations when you update_attributes?
In order to get multiple collection_select to work I use:
collection_select(:user, :group_ids, Group.find(:all), :id,
:name,{},{:multiple=>'''',:name=>''group[id][]''})
In fact if I

how to give a form a name
Using a <%= form_tag ... %>, how do I give a form a name, so that I can
reference it with javascript? I sure can''t figure this out from the docs...
Thanks,
Shelby
PS - what I am trying to do is just have the focus in the first form field
when the form is loaded. There has to be an easy way to do this, but I
can''t figure it out...

SELECT MAX
How does one do a SELECT MAX query in rails? I''ve searched and searched and
tried lots of things with no luck.
I want to implement "SELECT MAX(column_name) from table_name
and have it return the maximum value from column_name. I just need to get
that one value, not the whole object...
Thanks for any ideas...

dsadd doesn't work correct
Hi together,
I installed samba 4 on a server with Debian-Wheezy-OS. Everything seems
to work fine. I can add a user with RSAT. The user is added to the AD,
the profile is stored in the server-profile-path and homepath can be
accessed.
I have to import about 400 datasets to the AD. Therefore I want to use
the commandlinetool dsadd. With this tool I can import datasets, which I
can see with RSAT.

Dovecot deleting files and directories
Hi,
I?m a new Dovecot user and using version 2.2.18 on an OpenSuse system. In general it all works
quite nicely and clients can connect to Dovecot and manage mails normally. The layout used is
maildir. The users are all virtual, i.e. they do not exist on the Linux system. They all log in
without any authentication due to a very specialized and internal setup.
However, sometimes Dovecot simply

HABTM relationships and retrieving multiple selects in controller
Hello all,
I have a product table and an option table that are connected to one another
via a join table. These two tables both contain has_and_belong_to_many
relationships with each other.
I am trying to setup a page where I will create a product and add in its
options. I have already populated the options table with data to draw
from.
so, to start, here is the method from my controller:

form helpers with non-ActiveRecord objects
I have an ActiveRecord model (called Festival) that contains an array of
"FestDate" objects serialized into a sql text column of the Festival object.
(like the Agile book first edition describes on p. 205)
The FestDate objects themselvs are not ActiveRecord objects. (of course,
otherwise they would be in their own table...)
When working with a Festival, I would like to use various

i'm setting up mail server and here is the question:
if, for example "firstname.lastname at domain.com" is e-mail address, then
how can i setup login as "firstname.lastname" and "password" not only
"firstname".
Of course, users want all things simple. But i don't want to use login
names longer than 8 chars.
Any ideas? Or should i try

Re: rails question
Hi Shelby,
No prob,
You are having trouble b/c you don''t call @festival.valid? before this line:
if !(@festival.errors.invalid? :name ) # => true if name is invalid
I wasn''t clear about it in my post, but ActiveRecord::Errors#invalid? doesn''t actually do validations. It just looks at the associated errors object (which is empty if validation hasn''t
