Howto hide scsi or other hardware from the virtual system
Hi, I have created a virtual system via xen and would like to strip some unrequired virtual hardware from it. Example: my virtual Windows system shows me a scsi PCI device (as unknown device). I would like to get rid of it - I am only using IDE in the virtual system. How can I hide specific hardware from the virtual system? Cheers, Emre P.S.: as far as I understand specifying

terrible problems with Xen on SLES 10.2 / 11
Hello everyone, I''m totally new to Xen and trying to run it on some platforms (x86, x64) using SLES (that is what I have to use for reasons other than technical). Several machines on which I tried using Xen simply fails to run normally using Xen kernel: either network communication is not functioning at all despite proper configuration (that works on non-Xen kernel), or the kernel

Configure Rails for previous installation of MySQL
I''m "exploring" Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Like what I see so far, but have one question. How do I configure Rails for a previous installation of Apache and MySQL? I already have both products installed working to my needs and would like to keep the environment the same. Previously, I installed Rails using the InstantRails for windows "bundle" but ran into many

Removing old kernels
I have the following kernels on my /boot: 2.6.18-128.1.6 2.6.18-92.1.18 2.6.18-92.1.22 I'm low on /boot space and need to remove the oldest version. It appears that I cannot use yum to remove since all of the versions are the same (only the release is different). I believe that I can use rpm to remove the old version, but I also need to remove them from the grub.conf. Any other

Replicating a live server on a domU
Hi, Has anybody ever stumbled upon the need to replicate a live and in production server to a virtual machine? I''m trying to virtualize a bunch of servers but I can''t figure out how can I mirror the file system. I do not want to start from scratch with them. The whole idea is to transfer them to the virtual side as they currently are. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

converting full to para
virt-p2v was able to convert my centOS 5.2 physical machine to xen virtual machine and it runs great. Now, I am working on to convert this full virt machine to para virt . Under my domU i have installed kernel-xen (since it is needed ) , and edited my grub menu to use the installed kernel. My grub menu file in domU looks like: ---- kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.1.17.el5xen ro

working config for xen which would transfer a serial interface
Hello Can anyone share a known working config for xen which would transfer a serial interface ( add-on card preferably, mine uses e880-e887 : 0000:03:05.0 / ec00-ec07 : 0000:03:05.0 ) to a DomU ? I've been trying with the stock packages from Centos 5.5 ( fully updated) and also with gitco's 3.4.3 but after 2 days of googling and testing we still fail to access the serial

Xen on Centos 5.5 vs 5.3 and stability issues
I've recently upgraded a Centos 5.3 machine to Centos 5.5. The hardware isn't HVM capabile so I'm only running para-virt guests. Using a vanilla i386 kernel boots without, but the newer kernel-xen locks up the Dom0 after a couple of minute. I'm only booting into single user mode for these tests so no VMs are active. *kernel-xen-2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 - no issues

When I try to load that table the machine crash and I find always the same message in the "qemu....log'' file : xc_map_foreign_batch: mmap failed: Cannot allocate memory xc_map_foreign_bulk error 12 I

Migrating from KVM to XEN - kernel panic
First let me say that I'm not a sysadmin, but am simply wearing that hat this week so please excuse my ignorance. I need to temporarily move some virtual servers from a CentOS-KVM platform to a CentOS-XEN platform while I do some upgrades to the CentOS box. I've created a local LV, and used DD and SCP to transfer the block device from the VKM machine to the XEN machine. For quite a
