pass text_field to controller when using periodically_call_r
Hi. Can anyone help with this? In a view, I have a text_field_tag(
:mytextfield ). I would like to pass the current value of that
text_field_tag to a periodically_call_remote - something like
periodically_call_remote( :url => { :action => :do_it, :thetextval =>
:mytextfield.value } ) - Any idea how can I pass and/or access the value
of the text_field_tag in my do_it controller?

[PATCH] helper to create fb css stylized table
I attached a rails helper implementation of the fb_table described here:
http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Facebook_Styles
I included testing and comments. I hope you find it useful.
Curiously, it''s really a small extension of FBML.

Capture template output as plain html?
Hi,
I''m trying to find out if the following is possible.
I have a rhtml template stored in the database as a string. I need to
process the template (as a string), similar to using ActionView''s <%=
render_template("rhtml", @template_string) %>, but I need to do this in the
ActionController and capture the result as a string.
There is a method

strange issue locating a file
I have been editing a branch on my Fedora system, completed the changes
and was satisfied that it works and using svn, merged it to my main
trunk. I have been testing the main trunk and it seems fine. I committed
my changes to the svn repository.
On my live web application, I did an ''svn update'' which brought all the
files in but when I launch, I get an error on my

Multiple view types for a single action?
Is it possible to have more than one kind of view for a specific action,
for example an .rhtml and a .rjs file to handle the view for the same
action?
I suspect not, but this makes me wonder if there a way to call the .rjs
file from within the .rhtml so the statements within it get executed?
Thanks,
Andy

controller instance methods available in rhtml?
In rhtml, you have access to controller. I am trying to set an instance var
in my controller, then retrieve it in my form display. I know I could do
this through one of the hashes I have access to, but I''m trying to
understand why I can''t do it this way.
No matter what, when I try to output from my rhtml either
<%= controller.whynot || ''Unknown'' %> or

access a ActionControllers protected method from plugin?
I can''t belive I fit that in as the subject!
I''m writing a plugin that will allow me to grab some text from a
database and call the render method from ActionController on part of the
text. I can''t seem to figure out how to access the render method of
ActionController::Base. I keep getting the "uninitialized constant
Execute" error. How can I do this?

How to pin down location of views/shared directory ?
My app has a header & footer I want common to each section.
They live in app/views/shared/_header.rhtml & _footer.rhtml.
They are referenced by app/views/layouts/application.rhtml as one would
expect:
<div id="header">
<%= render :partial => ''shared/header'' %>
</div>
They contain many lines like this:

mongrel_mime.yml
But how to change the default encoding (seems to be UTF-8) for the dynamic
pages ?
thanks for your help.

Links on the left hand side - are components necessary?
Hello,
Maybe this is super-trivial...
I need to have a list of links on the left hand side of my application,
for *every* single page.
So, I''ve created a layout called "main" (main.rhtml) under
view/layouts, and included >layout "main"< in pretty all of my
controllers.
main.rhtml has, amongst all the other HTML stuff:

[PATCH server] Cloud UI V1 (readonly).
This patch creates the shell for much of what the cloud ui will
become. It is focused on layout (lightly fedora themed), accessibility,
and 'bookmarkability'. This layout uses no javascript (that will be
used to enhance interactivity in a future patch). It also introduces
the idea of using a simple table rather than the more conplex js/json
we use in the admin side. Plan here is to

request.params causing errors
Hello,
I have a rhtml file that goes through the request.params. One of my test
generates that file, but rspec pops an error saying :
undefined method ''params'' for ...
I''m not sure what to do with this, since request.params actually works with
rails.
Any idea?
Thank you

Layouts: application.rhtml v. mycontroller.rhtml
I was trying to be all DRY and standardize my layouts to one file and
made an application.rhtml. There was no application.rhtml at all
before.
So I renamed all my controller layouts to .txt and then tested. I got
empty pages.
I found some issues with Login/UserEngine and application.rhtml, but
nothing that looked like this behavior. Is routing messing me up? It''s

IFRAME based RJS - responds_to_parent
** File uploads with AJAX mojo **
Respond with RJS to your parent window with a form action targeted to
a hidden IFRAME. Handles all the painful situations like scoping
your JavaScript to your parent window generating the script block for
execution and clearing the IFRAME after execution so the back button
doesn''t re-execute the action.

Rails Rendering diagnostics.rhtml in Controller Spec
Forgive me if this isn''t the proper list. It''s specific to the rSpec
Rails plugin.
The problem is, some controller actions are rendering the
"diagnostics.rhtml" template when I''m expecting it to render something
else in a controller spec. I''m assuming this is the template that
displays the error message and a stack trace when an error is raised

render rhtml templates in worker
I''m trying to make a worker that will render a large page to a file,
very similar to what rails'' builtin cacheing does except with the
rendering done outside of rails.
The only advice I''ve found is to use
ActionController::Integration::Session.new but this doesn''t seem to
allow setting session variables the way the functional tests do. Is
there a way to
