Request URI Length Override
Please help, Does anyone know how to override the Mongrel request URI limits built in? I know it was set at a 512 byte limit, but my application will not work with this in place. Why do I need a larger limit? I''ve written a rails application that uses a bookmarklet to send large amounts of data from site to site. The only way to do this is (and keep it cross browser

Acts_As_Ferret Tutorial
Hey guys, I wanted to share with you guys a detailed tutorial I just finished this weekend for using Acts_As_Ferret. http://www.railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial I started using Ferret and Acts_As_Ferret a few weeks ago, and I learned so much that I wanted to give back to the community by writing up a helpful tutorial that covers all the key topics in one

Converting from UTF8 to ISO-8859-1 encoding
Please help, I have followed the rails wiki to convert my rails application to use UTF-8: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowToUseUnicodeStrings I am able to succesfully cut and paste Unicode characters from other page, successfully store and display unicode characters. However, my client actually wants ISO-8859-1 encoding, which I''m coming to realize is somehow

'nls' and its arguments
Dear R experts! I'd to fit data by 'nls' with me-supplied function 'fcn'. 1) I'd like 'fcn' to accept arbitrary arguments, i.e. I defined it as f(...) {<body>}. (Ok, that's not actually impotant). 2) Second, I would NOT like to supply every parameter in the formula. To illustrate this, let's look at the last example of 'nls' help

How to eliminate for next loops in this script
I needed to compute a complicated cross tabulation to show weighted means and standard deviations and the only method I could get that worked uses a series of nested for next loops. I know that there must be a better way to do so, but could use some assistance pointing the way. Here is my working, but inefficient script: library(Hmisc) rm(list=ls()) load('NHTS.Rdata') day.wt <-

Boost Sorting with Acts_as_ferret?
Hey guys, Simple question here. I have a single index of recipes, from which I''m looking at the following fields: Name, Ingredient Text, Tags, and Description. The key is, I want to show all the results that come from Name, before I show any of the results from Ingredient Text, Tags, or Description. I tried doing this: acts_as_ferret :fields => { :name =>

Lazy Samba (that'd make it Waltz)
Funny thing happening with an NT Client: it sees all the files in a public Samba share, but when I make any change (like renaming a file or dropping files into it) the change doesn't show up in the window until I press F5 (Refresh). Is it some config in Samba whichs defaults to "lazy" behavior which I'm failing to see? Thanx 4All, Juan --

Unicode HOWTO?
I am disappointed about the (seeming) lack of Unicode support in Rails. Is there a howto about working the most important limitations? For example, figuring out the length of an entered word: "???".length() will return 6, not 3. So if there is a maximum number of characters a user is allowed to enter, this won''t work as it should -- it treats strings as byte arrays instead

How do I get substring of utf-8 string?
I''m trying to get substring from a utf-8 encoded string. (say, first 50 characters of the string) String#[0..49] would give me the first 50 bytes not 50 characters.. I know there is jcode library, but it only let you count number of characters in utf-8 string. unicode gem doesn''t seem to help much. unicode_hacks gem seem to solve the problem, but it also seems to

Rails won't execute backticked OS commands
I''m at a loss as what to look for... I can issue a command result = `some_os_command_string` on my dev system just fine in both a pur ruby test file, and from Rails in dev mode. When I push that code to my server, the backtick command doesn''t work. No failure message -- even if I wrap it in begin/rescue so I have no specific clues to work from. I can run that same back ticked

unicode hacks - fixes for webrick and Safari
Hello! First, thank you Julian for the useful plugin ''unicode_hacks'' < http://julik.textdriven.com/svn/tools/rails_plugins/unicode_hacks/>. I have found some problems running my app in development on Webrick and looking at it with Safari (MacOS X 10.4.3, Safari 2.0.2). Some files are sent with different sizes (e.g. default css example, or controls.js ), and it

Robust nonlinear regression - sin(x)/x?
You reall have only one parameter in your model, c = a/b. You can't identify both a and b from your model, therefore, you should fit the linear model: lm(z ~ c* sin(x)/x) Ravi. ----- Original Message ----- From: cstrato <cstrato at aon.at> Date: Monday, February 2, 2004 2:28 pm Subject: [R] Robust nonlinear regression - sin(x)/x? > Dear all > > Since I did not receive any

CF to SATA adapters for boot device
Has anyone here had any luck using a CF to SATA adapter? I''ve just tried an Addonics ADSACFW CF to SATA adaptor with an 8GB card that I wanted to use for a boot pool and even though the BIOS reports the disk, Solaris B95 (or the installer) doesn''t see it. I might give the IDE version a go (I really wanted hoT-plug), otherwise I''ll be able to store a couple of thousand
