Xen 4.3 release planning proposal
Hello everyone! With the completion of our first few release candidates
for 4.2, it''s time to look forward and start planning for the 4.3
release. I''ve volunteered to step up and help coordinate the release
for this cycle.
The 4.2 release cycle this time has been nearly a year and a half.
One of the problems with having such a long release is that people who
get in features

set_phys_to_machine not exported?
I''m trying to compile pvscsi out-of-tree, and I''m getting an error that set_phys_to_machine is not defined when I try to load the module (with the warning to that effect at compile time too). This used to work fine in pvops.
It seems that netfront uses that symbol in a module so I''m confused as to why pvscsi can''t... any suggestions? Is it one of the virtues of

scsi passthrough in pvops kernel
pvscsi appears to be missing from the pvops kernel. Is there a specific
reason for this or has it just not been done yet?

pvscsi
Hello,
does anyone knows, if and when pvscsi will be available in the official linux kernel?
Kind regards.

SCSI passthrough using /dev/sgX
Is anyone working on SCSI passthrough using the ''SCSI Generic'' support
under Linux, eg /dev/sgX? This is how VMWare allows a VM to use SCSI
devices.
Thanks

vscsi
I''m not sure if this is a debian thing or if debian is using an older version, but I see this in xend debug log when I try to use vscsi:

first attempt of pvscai backend driver port to pvops
Attached is my first attempt at getting the backend pvscsi driver
(scsiback) working under the latest pvops kernel. I have tested it with
the scsi frontend driver in gplpv, and have restored about 20GB of data
from a HP LTO3 tape drive successfully, so it appears to be working
fine.
There are quite a few changes compared to the version in 2.6.18. The
main change is that I get the vaddr for each

pvSCSI question - can a gref describe more than one page?
Porting the pvSCSI backend driver to the pvops kernel is turning out to
be a bit harder than first thought, mostly because all the Linux
routines that might be useful are written with the assumption that they
would be passed a mapped buffer and they would then build an sg list out
of that. pvSCSI already has an sg list, and all the routines that it
makes use of have been deprecated since 2.6.18

making scsi disks visible to RHEL 5 guest
Hi,
I created an HVM type virtual machine and installed RHEL5U7
guest in it. I have assigned 7 scsi disks to the virtual machine in
physical mode (using phy:), however, I see those disks are xvd and not
as scsi.
Is anyone aware what the problem might be ? Please let me know
what kind of information do I need to post in order to narrow down to
the problem.
Thanks,
K

Xen PVSCSI: status, issues and some tests
Hi, I am working as a system administrator at an internet platform
service provider, and I am currently seeking to re-new our Xen
virtualization infrastructure for which I am mostly responsible for.
Currently, we run Xen 3.4.2/3.4.3 on RHEL/CentOS 5.x (5.7) as Dom0 with
CentOS 5.x pv-guests.
Based on my experiments, I am currently looking into Xen 4.1.2 on
RHEL/CentOS 6.x (6.2), with a

pvscsi and report luns command
I''m updating the gplpv pvscsi driver to support the pvscsi driver in
3.3, and it''s not working properly.
The first command windows issues is a ''report luns'' command, with a 16
byte buffer. The response that Dom0 gives me says that this was executed
successfully. Windows then issues another ''report luns'' command that is
also returned from Dom0

SCSI tape drive device
I have a SCSI tape backup unit attached to a kvm host managed by
libvirt. Is there a way to expose the SCSI device in libvirt so I could
pass the device to a virtual machine and have the virtual machine
control the tape backup?
Defining the device as a SCSI disk does not appear to work.
In this situation, live migration is not an issue. The VM would always
be tied to this host.

About tape drive.
Hello Everyone.
Well i want to write some information (not a complete
backup) from my Virtual Machine to the tape drive, but
the VM can''t read it.
I guess i need to attach this device to the VM so it
can read and write the tape driver but i don''t know
how to do that, i found something similar but with a

udev by-id symlinks randomly missing for tape drives on centos5
Hello!
I'm having problems with udev /dev/tape/by-id/ symlinks..
it seems symlinks to tape drives are sometimes (randomly) missing after reboot.
Server in question has IBM TS3200 tape library connected with 2 drives in
it.. so /proc/scsi/scsi shows 3 devices: 2 tape drives, and 1 medium changer (tape library).
So I should have 3 symlinks in /dev/tape/by-id/ directory.. 2 symlinks to tape

[RFC PATCH v01] Xen PVSCSI drivers for pvops xen/stable-2.6.32.x kernel
Hello,
http://pasik.reaktio.net/xen/patches/xen-pvscsi-drivers-linux-2.6.32.27-pvops-v01.diff
This is the first version of Xen PVSCSI drivers, both the scsiback backend and
scsifront frontend, ported from Novell SLES11SP1 2.6.32 Xenlinux kernel to
pvops xen/stable-2.6.32.x branch.
At the moment it''s *only* compile-tested with the latest xen/stable-2.6.32.x
git kernel as of today

Backing up Xen DomU''s - Tape Drive - LVM
Hi,
I am planning the roll out of a Xen dom0 running CentOS that is going to
be running two DomU''s CentOS and Windows 2003 SBS. I am planning on
using LVM for the disks as this (so i have read) increases i/o
performance compared to image files.
I need a solution to back up these machines and I have came up with the
following two ideas:
Idea 1,
Backup the machines as images (lvm

Problems with pci passthrough with Xen 3.4.2
Hi all!.
First of all sorry about my English it''s not very fluid.
I have a small server based upon Supermicro X7DBN (Chipset Intel®
5000P) motherboard and Intel Xeon E5320 (1,83Ghz) with 4Gb of FB-DIMM
RAM.
The OS is Debian Lenny in dom0 (2.6.26-2-xen-amd64) and Debian Lenny
in domU (2.6.26-2-xen-amd64).
Xen is 3.4.2 compiled from sources.
The problem comes when I need to passthrough

detecting a ''block-configure'' via xenbus
How should I be detecting a block-configure operation done in Dom0 in a
HVM DomU?
Under Debian Lenny''s Xen 3.2.1, when I execute such a command, Dom0
writes to the backend values ''params'' and ''type'', twice, but doesn''t
update the ''sectors'' value to match the new device, or initiate a state
change. Given that, the best I can

Replacement tape drive configuration
CentOS 4.8
Hi All:
We recently had a Sony SDX-500V tape drive fail on one of our servers
running CentOS 4.8. I have now replaced it with a spare SDX-500C. The
problem that I am having now is that the failed drive had ceased
responding to SCSI commands and we have since rebooted the system
which resulted in the tape drive being removed from our current
hardware configuration and the system does
