Batch mode creates huge diffs, bug(s)?
So the short summary of my problem is, the batch file rsync creates is HUGE
for a very small change. The idea is to create workstation image with
partimage, update it with some software and send the image update diff over
the wire to a large number of destinations over a satellite link, but the
batch file updates are several orders of magnitude too large. I don't know
exactly how partimage

clonezilla
The clonezilla live project is a really nice way to do image-copies of
machines:
http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/clonezilla-live/
but it's based on a Debian live OS which has some unfamiliar quirks.
Has anyone built something like this on a Centos base?
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it can do whole disk or partition copies
of windows and most Linux filesystems and it knows enough to

list used blocks
Hi all,
I'm looking for a tool that lists the used blocks in an ext3 file system.
Is there already a tool that does exactly that? The closest I could
find is dumpe2fs which lists groups, and free blocks within the group.
Thanks,

Live linux booting
I have a need to have a live Linux (Debian or sysrescued ) to boot off a hard-drive so that the
hard-drive ends up umounted after boot. (for running partimage ).
I've gone down the memdisk iso route and read about the issues there - I've seen a way to do this by
mounting over nfs (messy) - but I want to do this without the network.
I'm thinking that there should be a way to loop

Symantec ghost and CentOS 3.4/4.0
Anyone have any experience getting ghost to do a successful
image with CentOS, Fedora, or RHEL? It worked great with RH9, but now a
days I find it nearly impossible to get it to work properly. Any tips
would be helpful. We spin up a large number of servers on a weekly basis
and it would be nice to just be able to image them.
Thanks,

converting a floppy disk layout to partition layout
Hi all!
I have a slight problem: I have an external disk which contains one big
filesystem (like a floppy) type ext3 (If you ask why: blame udev or
maxtor, or me because I am stupid) which is approx 60% filled.
Now I want to have a partition table, ie a layout where the current
filesystem is the first partition, and the rest is as usual.
Is this possible withotu destroying the data?

why not correct tool ?
if rsync can greatly keep two large files in sync between source and destination
(using --inplace), why should it (generally spoken) not also be used to keep two
blockdevices in sync ?
maybe these links are interesting in that context:

symantic ghost with centos 4.2
I am trying to use symantic 8.X and ghost a disk. I get
"Apllication Error 29004. Read sector failure, result = 1, drive = 0,
sectors 2071692247 to 2071692255"
when trying to ghost the disk.
anyone done this successfully?
symantic supports ext3.

transfer data from one hard drive to another
Hello I have an OS installation and data on a 40 gb drive that I would
like to image to a 80 gb drive. I don't care if the resulting
partition layout on the new drive is only 40 gb making me lose space.
I just want to move everything from the older drive because I think
it's failing. I have looked at partimage and mondo rescue as imaging
solutions but both deal with partitions. CAn someone
