Re: VFS calls after disconnect
Hello,
Below is the sample code almost similar to the one in Samba Developers's
guide. I tested it with a win2k client for samba 3.0.2a on FreeBSD.
When the example_connect is called the second time by the same client
handle->data is null.
The test can be reproduced as follows-
1) search for the computer from windows explorer. Access the vfs share and
create directory or perform any other

Timer for executing events
Hi Everyone,
I hope you guys can help me out. What is the best way to go about using
a timer to execute events? I would like to execute a block of code
every 24 hours (or at midnight - server time). Is this possible?
What I am trying to get at is that I would like to create a new page
every 24 hours and have that serve as my front page. Is it possible to
route to this ''new

Newbie Four Days on Rails
Hi all,
Having successfully gone through Bill Walton''s Tutorial ''Rollining with Ruby on [Instant] Rails''
I decided to tackle John McCreesh''s ''Four Days on Rails'' Tutorial.
I changed the Rails version as recommended in the tutorial.
All went well until I entered the following command:-
ruby script/generate model category

AJAX Form, :postion => :bottom but replace when error?
I have a form below a table to add new notes to an item. If the note
does not have a title or body, the note is not saved and a form error
is displayed. However, if the note validates successfully, then the
note is added to the bottom of the table above. Just for reference,
the table id is "note_list" and the add form div is id="note_add_form".
So, my problem/question

A couple of problems
Hi Ezra,
Thanks for the great work on BackgrounDRb. I have come across a
couple of problems.
1. I wanted to define a simple class in the worker file to wrap up and
pass back some data to my controller. It seems that if I create the
class either inside or outside of my worker class (in the same file)
it gets wrapper by a DRb::DRbUknown object and therefore cannot be
accessed from my controller.

Error with mongrel_rails start
When I make an empty Rails web application, and go through the steps
to create/include a database, and scaffold, mongrel_rails start (or
ruby script/server) works just fine. However, I attempted this with a
pre-existing web app and I got some errors.
First, I gathered the app''s folder (checked the contents, it has all
the folders plus one extra: components) and placed it under ruby/

Acts_as_ferret and auto-flush
Hi,
I''m using acts_as_ferret in with a mongrel and I'' m getting locking
errors that after a while result in a corrupt database.
I know about the problem with different processes writing to the
index but I haven''t been able to get the DRB server working properly
yet. I read on this list that another solution is to set :auto_flush
to true but I''m not

Best way to execute timed actions?
I''ve seen this come up a few times before on this list but never felt
it got a satisfactory answer. What is the best way to execute timed
actions? Examples include sending an email each week, calculating
interest each day, or cleaning up your database or server files.
This wiki page has some ideas, but these seem a bit extreme.

the vendor dir, gems and openid
Dear all,
I am currently developing an application which uses OpenID as a login
system. On my development box everything works like a charm. But as
soon as I deploy the code to our production server things go wrong.
First the OpenID gem could not be located. This made sense as it is not
installed on the production server, so after some browsing it appeared
that I needed:
$ cd

Act as Taggable with Rails 2.0
I''ve posted a different question just before -- but before I can try
and get a better idea of my error message, I was trying to start my
application and ran into other problems.
My application was developed last year in rails 1.2.3. I since
upgraded my computer and have the latest version of rails. When I
tried to star the application I got the following error message:

DRY? Converting Boolean to Yes/No
I have a database column given as:
t.column :change_address, :boolean
The user interacts with this using a checkbox, but wants confirmations to
read:
Change address: Yes
In an isolated case something like:
@obj.change_address ? ''Yes'' : ''No''
Would work fine but this is peppered throughout scads of forms and boolean
fields. The first step I took at DRYing

running a background task/thread in rails?
Hi, I am new to ruby and to rails, but I like what I see so far. I have
been working on a web app in java (servlets and JSPs) that, based on a
request from the user, kicks off a thread in the background to perform a
task (puts messages in an MQSeries queue). The thread object is stored
in the session and I then allow the user to control the task from the
browser(like stop it).
Is the same

Frustrating "require" problems with RMagick
I am using RMagick in my app and am having problems in deployment. The
deployment machine (Fedora Core 5) can''t find RMagick unless I change
the "require" syntax from that used on the dev machine (OS X). And the
dev machine doesn''t like the syntax that works on the deployment server!
To wit:
[OS X]
$ script/console
Loading development environment.
