How to Firebug XHR/AJAX requests
Saw a lot of recommendations for Firebug (http://www.joehewitt.com/software/firebug/) on this list. I''ve scanned its docs and tried it--many useful features. But I''m so dense that I can''t get it to spy XHR/AJAX requests and their response on FC5 running Firefox 1.5.0.4 and Firebug 0.4. Can someone tell me how to get to

respond_to formats, fbml and fbjs
In my controllers I have a respond_to block for both fbml and fbjs. I created the fbjs mime type in environment.rb: Mime::Type.register "application/javascript", :fbjs However, even if I specify fbjs in a parameter name format during AJAX post requests, it is being overwritten by Rails or Facebooker as FBML. I confirmed this by placing logger.debug params[:format] immediately before

respond_to format.json not being called
Hi all, I''m submitting a form using jQuery, but in the respond_to block only the format.html action is called. This is the javascrip: send_button.on(''click'', function(){ var form = $(this).closest(''.modal'').find(''form''); $.post(''/messages'', form.serialize(), function(data, status, xhr){

respond_to not detecting JS turned on. form_to_remote problem?
I''m trying to use respond_to to redirect visitors who have JS turned off to a different page. The problem I''m having is that respond_to is sending *everybody* there. It''s not recognizing that JS is turned on in the browser. The wanted_html.rhtml file below is rendered whether I''ve got JS turned on or off. I''ve looked at the Accept headers being sent

testing ajax responder actions
I have an Ajax responder method which uses respond_to to make sure it only works with Ajax. I''m having trouble figuring out how to call this action successfully. I''m using Rails 1.2.x. xhr :post giving wrong number of arguments on rails 2.1?
Getting a strange error. In a story I have the following step: When "I submit a search name" do xhr :post, ''/searches'', {:search => {:given_name => "bob", :family_name => "smith"}} end I am getting: ArgumentError: wrong number of arguments (4 for 3) stories/searching_story_spec.rb:45 in "I submit a search name" But I only

The latest & greatest Routing (Rails Edge 4611)
Got a quick question regarding the latest and greatest: module ActionController module Routing SEPARATORS = %w( / ; . , ? ) Why is period (.) one of the separators? As it stands, the new routing code doesn''t recognize ''file.ext'' as the last component of a URL, which is sometimes defaulted to nil. See the generated code below. I don''t know everything

request.xhr? is false after redirecting an AJAX request?
Dear everybody I''m trying to develop a web application that makes use of AJAX, but also works if a user has no (or doesn''t want to use) JS. For normal requests, this is pretty easy. Almost every action ends with render blahblah, :layout => !request.xhr? This way, I can use the same action to render a full page (with layout) as well as rendering an AJAX request (only the

How to make a ajax (xhr) redirect?
Hi all, In my application, I want seamless degradability so I use request.xhr? to check whether a request is an ajax call. However here and there, I need to use redirect_to - in this case the request is not xhr anymore, and the check doesn''t work as expected. Is there a way to make xhr- like redirect (which allow to get to another controller+action)? Thanks, - Chuong

Headache with Ajax in Rails using jQuery
Hello everyone, I''m a newbie at Ruby on Rails. I spent nearly two days of the Memorial Day weekend stumbling upon making Ajax working in Rails. At this point, I''m so exhausted and hope that I can get some help to move forward. I have tried nearly everything I found on Google but still not successful. Initially, I tried the Ajax approach offered by Rails but did not work, so I

Routing problems for different formats
I am having 2 similar problems with routing. 1. With Rails if I make a js request using jQuery I always have to append a ".js" extension to allow the request to be handled appropriately. If I don''t append a js extension I get html formatted data back. Using Merb this never happened and worked like I thought it should. 2. Today I am having problems allowing xml requests to be

jquery, format.js and IE
I''m trying to use jQuery to write all my js unobtrusively, and running into a bit of a problem when triggering the format.js block in IE6 (and possibly IE7). It returns the JSON string no problem, but instead of parsing it, IE6 asks to download the resource as a .js file. So if my url is ''/pictures/1.js'', IE6 will ask to save or run ''1.js'' I did do

For the life of me I can''t figure this one out, although I can''t find anyone else who''s attempted to do this, and probably with good reason. Basic AJAX Response (Mootools)
Hi, I''ve done AJAX calls to Rails'' Controllers before yet never required to generate a response back to the view. In this respect, I have tried to keep it moronically simple and just add a node to see that it works, yet the response doesn''t come through / isn''t interpreted as it should. Long story short, code : // Have to use Mootools to integrate a
