Giving a domU direct access to a NIC
Hello,
I am experimenting with Snort and other IDS and I would like to use Xen for
these tests. This would require me to use port mirroring to sent a bunch of
packets to a NIC located on my Xen machine.
I don''t really know how Xen networking works, but is it possible to give a
domU direct access to a NIC ? Or at least give it enough access so that it
can see packets that are not for the

libguestfs and exporting to OVA/OVF
Hi
I've been looking for a standalone tool to create OVA/OVF VM files based
on a disk image and found none. So I was thinking to write my own.
Would you be interested in having such a tool in the libguestfs umbrella ?
My aim is too have a free toolchain to build VirtualBox images for
Debian (for Vagrant to be more exact, see

Xen 4.0 - No console prompt after booting domU but functional SSH
Hello xen-users !
I am coming for help concerning the just released 4.0 version. Install has
worked rather well on my Debian Lenny. I have just had a few bugs for which
I have found the answer looking around on this list.
I have created a Debian Lenny domU which boots up just fine. The only
problem is that I am unable to get a console prompt when using "xm console
nameofdomU". I do see

Moving DC1 to a Virtual Machine
just a suggestion..
get www.xenserver.org install a xen server.
get xen convertion tools. http://www.citrix.nl/downloads/xenserver/tools/conversion.html
and migrate the linux on hardware box to Xen server.
from here you can also export to OVF/OVA package or XVA file.
the OVF can be inported in virtual box..
but i do everything with xen server.

Shared storage between open Xen, VMware ESX, XenServer, KVM and a normal Linux...
Guys!
I have one fiber channel IBM storage (10T) and 8 HP Proliant servers with
32G of RAM on each and 1 HP with 4G of RAM.
My question is:
* How to use the same storage (block device) with all my different
virtualization servers simultaneously?
I have 2 open source Xen with CentOS 5.4, 2 VMWare ESX, 2 Citrix XenServer,
2 KVM powered by Ubuntu and 1 Debian exporting the IBM storage to a SAN

Help with Citrix XenServer
Hi,
It''s been forever and a day since I last posted here, mainly because I
haven''t touched Xen in a few years now due to job changes... But now
I''ve been handed a project to work with XenServer, Citrix''s commercial
grade Xen.
So, I wanted to ask if there were any people here with experience
using XenServer, XenCenter and so on, or if you knew of a better list

RE: Recover disk space after deletion files in CitrixXenserver
There is unfortunately no current (stable/reasonable) way to make an
existing filesystem image sparse without jumping through some hoops. Pretty
much any of the variants I''ve seen will require you to have as much (or
more) free disk space as there is data on the disk image. A twist on Mark''s
idea to tar it and create a new virtual machine is this.

How to install the InputVSC driver ?
Hi,
We have an issue when execute the next procedure :
The InputVSC driver requires the Linux Integration Components to be installed, and supports the same guest distro versions.
To install the InputVSC driver: (you must be root:)

XCP vs XenServer (free edition) or is it XCP mature enough?
Hello,
I am a system manager of a datacenter. Is this moment, we about 30-40
xen servers running 2 or 3 domUs each of them. We are now using
(standalone) xen over debian lenny. We manage each xen server
independently, but we are looking for a central management console.
At this moment, I have the doubt about using citrix xenserver (the free
edition) or XCP. I didn''t know much

Unable to add point and print drivers
Hello,
We have been using samba 4.0.9 with good success so far and are looking to add the ability for users to print from network printers shared by Samba.
The printing part works fine using coupling with lp and cups. In order to automate this fully for the users, we would like to enable point and print drivers.
The print$ share is accessible with no issues and is configured as below :

New Xen User
Hi Everyone,
I''ve been looking into the different hypervisors that''re available, and i''ve noticed the Xen project and the XenServer by Citrix.
Is there a difference? Or am i looking at an old website?
Because the version on xen.org is 3.5.4 and the version on citrix is 5.5.
Thanks,

The Citrix server will loose network connectivity intermittently.
And at this point the pastel evolution client''s connection will timeout
to the SQL server.
His happens very erratically.

Sound or USB passthrough for Windows guest at Citrix XenServer 5.6 Free
Hi there,
I''ve started using Xen through Citrix XenServer 5.6 Free. Now I am
thinking about adding a USB sound device to my virtual Windows machine.
One idea would be to access a virtual audio device that streams audio to
a client. I''ve stumbled over the possibility to SSH-forward PulseAudio
but this is not possible for Windows on either one or the other side of
the chain.

Windows 2000 DomU
Hello,
I am doing tests to convert old rotting servers into a big shiny new Xen
platform. I have been able to migrate a Windows 2003 server without a
scratch. I am trying to do the same thing with Windows 2000 Server but
things aren''t so great...
I made an image from the disk that worked in a machine. Then I boot on this
image using Xen. Windows 2000 starts to boot up then give me a

convert from xenserver to xen community
All,
Wanted to know if it would be possible to move a vm from xenserver (www.citrix.com<http://www.citrix.com/>) to a image that would run xen open source (www.xen.org<http://www.xen.org/>). If so, how?
