Inheritance via Though Associations?
I posted something about this a week ago wihtout response, but have made some progress since. However, I''m still not getting exactly what I want. OK, three core tables: create_table :reference_items do |t| t.column :title, :string, :limit => 255 t.column :year, :integer, :limit => 4 t.column :type, :string t.column

binding/unbinding devices to vfio-pci
Alex, I'm trying to think through how binding/unbinding of devices will work with VFIO for platform devices and have a couple of questions about how vfio-pci works. When you bind a device to vfio-pci, e.g.: # echo 1102 0002 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/vfio-pci/new_id ...I understand that the echo into 'new_id' tells the vfio pci driver that it now handles the specified PCI ID. But

loading modules across reboots
I have a CentOS 5.2 install on a machine with the Marvell nic issue outlined in http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2612. I have a few questions regarding this, what does the # echo "11ab 4364" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/sky2/new_id line do? Obviously it starts right after but what specifically is the "11ab 4364" part? Also, how do I get this to load across reboots? I have the

Basic Relationship Problem
I''m trying to do a basic relationship and it''s not working the way it should. The data model is obviously a test database as the fields are minimal. In irb I do the following: >> user = User.create(:name => "shawn") => #<User:0x259ceac @errors=#<ActiveRecord::Errors:0x259c3a8 @errors={}, @base=#<User:0x259ceac ...>>,

file_column with polymorphic table relationship?
Hello, I''m just starting out with both Rails and Ruby, so I hope this isn''t too simple of a question - but I''ve been struggling to find a solution. I''m using the file_column plugin to handle image uploads and thumbnail generation. In addition, I''ve wrapped the image into a polymorphic table so I can have uploaded images associated with multiple

intel quad gigabit nic and pci passthrough
Hi all I have a very weird case of pci passthrough. I have a machine with 7 network interfaces, all of them intel. Four of them are on one quad giga ethernet device. If I manually unbind the devices and allow qemu to use them, with intel IOMMU working, everything works like a charm. Here's how I do it manually: root@kybrat (x86_64) ~]$ lspci -nn | grep net 00:19.0 Ethernet controller

How to access attribute in a self-referential many-to-many relationship
Hello List, I created a self-referential many-to-many relationship (as described in the book Rails recipe #18), where I have a model that has many-to-many relationships with itself. In this case, it''s person who can become friends. The join table looks like this: mysql> select * from friends_people; +-----------+-----------+-----------+ | person_id | friend_id | confirmed |

Once I added this HABTM, one of my 'through' relationships, on a non-habtm model, seems to have broke?
I''m a rails newb and have been Googling about this, but I''m still stumped. Not showing everything here, but basically it should be a pretty common setup so I''m sure others know what I''m doing wrong. - A meter can belong to many meter_groups - A meter_group can have many meters. - A user can ''subscribe'' to viewing a meter_group (Subscription)
