[Xen-API] problem with snapshot unallocation
Hi all, i use XCP 0.5 with a NFS storage repository and normally i do daily snapshots from all VMs i have, as follow: 1) create snapshot 2) export snapshot to file 3) delete snapshot One day I get the VM error "Snapshot chain is too long". I notice however that this appears to only VM''s with more than 1 attached virtual disk. In my case I have a couple

Xen and SAN : snapshot XOR live-migration ?
Please tell me if I am wrong : Xen needs LVM to perform domU snapshots and snapshots must be performed by dom0. By the way, a LVM volume group should not be used by more that one kernel at the same time. So if we use a SAN storage, one volume group should be activated on only one server and deactivated on the others. But if we do that, it should not be possible to perform live migration of

can not lvcreate after lvm snapshot and "xm mem-set" and lvremove
I am not sure if it''s a xen bug or lvm bug, or just my bad hardware, but here''s how to reproduce: /dev/vg0/centos1 is lvm block used by a domainU, it''s 8G in size. #lvcreate -L8192M -s -n snap1 vg0 #mount /dev/vg0/snap1 /mnt do some copying files here #umount /mnt #lvremove /dev/vg0/snap1 not removed! it says can''t allocated memory #xm mem-set 0 512 #lvremove

virsh create snapshot not honoring diskspec?
Hi, I'm trying to create a snapshot on a specific disk by using diskspec option. However, libvirt/virsh seems to ignore it and takes a snapshot of all disks. Am I using this option incorrectly? In below examples, I'm trying to snapshot only vdb. However even vda is getting snapshotted regardless of diskspec. Is this a known issue? I'm on CentOS 7.1, libvirtd (libvirt) 1.2.8, virsh

LVM2 snapshots and XEN = problem :(
Hello guys Does anyone use lvm2 backends for domU storages ? I do and I wanted to use lvm''s snapshot feature to make backups of domUs in background but I got the following problem. When I create a snapshot LV and copy data from it to backup storage it works perfect. Then I do umount and then lvremove. lvremove asks me if I really want to remove the volume and then just hangs forever.

Backup domU xen
.... seem to be a never ending story ... I''ve found the problem of my crashes (two days on a row now). I''m using lvm2 as a filesystem, and was doing backup''s like this: - take a snapshot of a running system - mount the snapshot - rsync the snapshot to my backup-partition. - umount the snapshot - remove the snaphost This resulted in a huge load, which was increased 1

Xen backups using LVM Snapshots
Hi all, I am running Xen 3.2-1 / 2.6.18 on Debian Etch (Dom0). I setup a Dom0 with several DomUs (Linux). Each DomU disk is a LV partition. I have been seeing a few mails about backups and LVM and just wanted to make sure that what I am doing is correct. Each DomU with a database has a cron that dumps the db with mysqldump. Later on, Dom0 will do an LVM Snapshot of all DomUs and then do a

as promised description of my XEN HA setup
Hi all, In threads posted by I believe Jonathan Tripley I promised to post my new XEN HA setup. Hope it can be of some use to some people. In this particular case I''m forced to use SLES 10SP3 with XEN 3.2, which excludes the possibility of using things like cLVM (which I don''t think I need anyway). So: Storage: I use two HP ML370 G5 machines with DRBD and heartbeat on

mount xen partitions inside logical volume from dom0?
I''ve installed a FC5 domU under RHEL5-beta2 dom0 with virt-manager. As the disk for domU I used: phy:/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02,xvda,w In the domU I have partitions: /dev/xvda1 on / type ext3 (rw) /dev/xvda2 on /var type ext3 (rw) How do I access these partitions from dom0? For example if I take an LVM snapshot of LogVol02, how do I mount the / partition of the domU installed on

snapshots on xen
Hi all. I''m using sles11 for my xen servers. I would really like to be able to do hot snapshots of disk AND memory, and then have these snapshots backed up to tape or off site for disaster recovery. I''m thinking this would be done weekly or monthly, not nightly. Two questions: 1) Is this even possible? 2) I could probably have the systems shutdown to make a clean backups, but

Consistent snapshots
Hi! How do i create consistent snapshots of VM''s from Dom0?. What are the backup methods or snapshot/snaprestore methods that are followed for Xen Virtual environments?. thoughts/ideas?. -- I have the simplest of tastes; I am easily satisfied with the best. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com

pvops0 kernel 2.6.32.x still does not boot if x > 18, shouldn''t that be fixed for release of Xen 4.0.2/4.1
Hello Jeremy & Keir, sorry to be persistent, but the problem that pvops0 kernel 2.6.32.x still does not boot if x > 18 on my machines (and on many other machines, see this mailing list) is not solved yet. Shouldn''t this be a great focus of debugging and fixing? What is the point of having releases for 4.0.2 or 4.1 if I don''t have a dom0 kernel? The last time I tried

Best way to take snapshots of iSCSI devices using Open-iSCSI + CentOS
Hi, I want to take snapshots of a iSCSI devices from a target that hasn't snapshot/cloning capabilities (it's a Infortrend A16E storage array). What method are you using to make snapshots/clones of iSCSI targets using Open-iSCSI + CentOS? What about using Open-iSCSI + LVM snapshots system? For example: - Take a LVM snapshot in the initiator with "lvcreate". - Give read-only

Backing up Xen DomU''s - Tape Drive - LVM
Hi, I am planning the roll out of a Xen dom0 running CentOS that is going to be running two DomU''s CentOS and Windows 2003 SBS. I am planning on using LVM for the disks as this (so i have read) increases i/o performance compared to image files. I need a solution to back up these machines and I have came up with the following two ideas: Idea 1, Backup the machines as images (lvm
