Question about acls
Hi, I''m not much of a developer but I''ve been using backgroundrb for a while now and with the release of 0.2.1 it looks like I can finally upgrade from the old version (0.2.0 had some weird issues when jobs just wouldn''t run, seems to have cleared up now - Thanks!). Anyhow, while I''m doing this, I would like to tackle this problem. Most tasks I run in

Cannot start workers in production mode
I have a job that I am starting from a Rails controller in production mode using MiddleMan: MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :import_ccg_category_worker, :args => { :category_id => @category.id, :remote_category_id => params[:remote_category_id], :description => "Importing CCG products for #{@ category.name}" }) Both of the category ID variables are just basic integers. Problems with ActiveRecord in workers
Hi *, are there some special settings except of "load_rails: true" to make ActiveRecord models accessible within my workers? I''ve just installed the latest version of this great plugin, but I keep getting undefined method [] for #<DRb::DRbUnknown:0x12345> (line 105 in backgroundrb.rb) when one of the arguments for the worker is an ActiveRecord object. I assume that

backgroundrb - Connection closed
Hello, maybe someone can help with backgroundrb. I''ve written an application, which makes use of backgroundrb. Everything works fine on my development machine, but it crashes on my production server. Something seems to be wrong with backgroundrb, but I don''t know the cause. All I get is the error message attached below, which is extracted from the production.log. I

New release!
Hey Folks- I have just pushed a new release of BackgrounDRb to rubyforge. It has some nice new features to allow for usage of your ActiveRecord Models within your worker classes. I also added a config file for setting hosts and ports and if you want to load rails or not. Please have a look and let me know if anyone runs into any issues. If you already have an older version installed

Mutex::Synchronize with backgroundrb
I have a question concerning where to use the synchronize function. The point of it is to put all of the code blacks passed to this function in a queue. This make sure that code gets ran one at a time. This is required when doing any kind of database activity in backgrondrb and multiple threads. Otherwise I lose the connection to my database. So here is my question: Do I need to do: @lock =

Very strange after_save problem. Please help.
I have a very strange problem here. I do not get this. So any help is greatly appreciated. Basically I have a model that calls a method in the background process in the "after_save" method. Let''s call the model products. So what happens is this: 1. I create a new product. 2. Everything works and the product is saved with id 13. 3. A method is called in my background

A newbie question regarding BackgroundRb
Hi all, I just read Ezra''s article on BackgroundRb and decided to use it one of my projects. I installed the plugin into my rails project using script/plugin and then ran rake backgroundrb:setup to copy the yml scripts. Now my backgroundrb.yml looks like ======= --- port: "22222" timer_sleep: 60 load_rails: true environment: development host: localhost database_yml:

Drb Connection error on multiple dispatch.fcgi ''s
Hi All, I''m using Backgroundrb as a general purpose long-running-task back-end (upload processing, email sending, etc), and it''s been a great solution. However I''ve recently run into some some intermittent connection issues that have me baffled. I''m running on apache2/fcgid and the problem occurs in both devlopment and production mode. The problem seems to

backgroundrb not cleaning up tmp files?
I just had an interesting issue on a production system that has been running nicely for about a year. There were approximately 10,000 backgroundrb temp files in the /tmp directory. It looks like backgroundrb wasn''t cleaning them up. I noticed it with the following error: DRb::DRbConnError: drbunix:///tmp/backgroundrb.20015/ backgroundrb_logger_0_0.101544829808665 -

openssh 2.9p1 on Solaris 2.6 with AFS
Jan, maybe I should check the /afs information that you pointed me at in a subsequent email first, but I wanted to update you on what happened following this path: I did get some mileage out of both of your suggestions below, but still did not make it through (now working with openssh-2.9p2): gcc -o ssh ssh.o sshconnect.o sshconnect1.o sshconnect2.o sshtty.o readconf.o clientloop.o -L.

deadlocks in Drb Server
Hi, we still have the problem in that the Ferret Drb server dies on us sometimes. strange issue with backgroundrb behind apache/lighttpd
I''m getting strange data back from my worker whenever I run our rails app with more than one dispatcher under lighttpd. just to give some info on what the app does: user submits data to rails app. rails app hands off data to worker, which goes and does it''s thing, storing results in an array of response objects (the array is an attribute of the worker). the response object
