VGA passthrough with Xen 4.3 and xl toolstack - performance degradation resolved?
Hello,
Hope you can help. A while ago users noted performance degradation or dom0 stability issues when shuting down a HVM guest that uses VGA passthrough (e.g. Windows 7), and booting up the guest again. A workaround was to eject the graphics card within Windows, before shutting down the guest. This process is described here: http://blog.ktz.me/?p=219.
I tried to follow those instructions, but

Xen VMM Window Resize Commands
I am working on a workstation environment where users can be seamlessly
presented different VM''s without having to manually click and move VM
windows on top of other windows or Dom0. I was wondering if there were any
terminal command sets that can use to achieve this effect. I know there are
xen commands to show and hide VM windows, but I would also need to be able

XenforCentOS6...need help to setup a PCI passthrough network
Hi,
I have used this
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart
and everything works like a charm then I installed a VM using
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart/Xen4Libvirt
only to realize later that I don't want NAT.
I would want to use PCI passthrough and so i used
virsh net-destroy default
virsh net-undefine default
and
net-create /home/kartik/passthrough.xml

General question about understanding PCI passthrough
Greetings -
I saw Andrew Holway's post yesterday referencing using PCI passthrough as a
solution to someone else's issue. Not being familiar with it, the post made
me look into it more to see if it is something to use for my setup. From my
research on the web, I have two questions to make sure I understand how PCI
passthrough works.
1. If you use PCI passthrough on a graphics card

PCI-Passthrough suddenly stopped working
Hi everybody!
On a Centos 5.8 with libvirt qemu-0.10.5-1.el5.2, libvirt-0.8.2-22.el5 and 2.6.18-308.11.1.el5 I have a Windows machine that used to have pci-passthrough for a device enabled and working.
After an update (kernel, libvirt afaik) and a reboot, pci-passthrough stopped working. Intel IOMMU is enabled (can see that from the dmesg output). All i get on the console when i try to start

pci-passthrough nic but no link
I hope someone can enlighten me.
I have a quad-port Intel 82580 nic (igb driver) on my system and I''d like to
dedicate each nic to a HVM via VT-d PCI passthrough. The IOMMU on my system
seems to work, I can assign the PCI devices to my HVMs. The HVMs see the
pci device and load their respective igb drivers, and ethtool -i eth0 works
on each HVM, shows the drivers are loaded and the

PCI Passthrough in
Is there any information available when one can expect OpenSolaris to
handle PCI Passthrough als Dom0?
This thread:
http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=45875&tstart=135 makes
me think there might be some work going on...
Thanks

Re: PCI passthrough working on Xen 3!
Hi Jeff.
I read that you use PCI Passthrough and works well, i
was wonder if you can tell me how you do that ''cause i
can''t find how to do it :( and i really need to.
So if you can give some advice about how you do it
would be really helpful.
I appreciate your help Jeff.

Ivan

Questions about PCI passthrough in Xen
Hi:
I am trying to understand the current pass-through device in Xen. To
my understanding, Xen can hide a PCI device from Dom 0 and exclusively
assign it to a guest OS (dom U), right?
Does Xen support to assign one device to multiple guest OSes? Does
current pass through require Intel -VT or AMD SVM? Where is the source
file for the pass-through function? Is it in xen/drivers/passthrough?

pci passthrough on unstable
Hi,
Is anybody using pci passthrough with unstable 3.4? I have set mode to
passthrough in the kernel config and assigned a network card to a
windows hvm, the device is detected as "Xen Pci Device #0" but when I
look at the device properties they do not match the card and I the
driver does not load.
Is passthrough broken?

all in one server: xen/esxi + zfs storage + other server + pci passthrough
hello
at the moment i have several esxi virtual-server with a unsufficient and slow storage-concept included (or i have to pay a lot of money). so i use separate zfs server (free nexenta + my napp-it web gui) as a nas/san server to store virtual machines on nfs shares.
this two server concept is fine for our primary server but not for cost sensitive systems like test installations, home

pci passthrough and domU madwifi drivers
Hi list,
The crux of my setup is given in the Subject: field. I''m using Xen
3.0.3 (release) on a VIA Nehemiah chipset with Linux 2.6.16.29 in
both dom0 and domU. Because the documentation on PCI passthrough
is a bit sparse, I''m turning to the mailing list.. hopefully you
guys have some input.
My goal is to set up a system where:
* 1 domU VM runs at a time.
* The VM can be

PCI/VGA passthrough and function level reset (FLR)
I''m wondering if FLR really must be supported by the PCI card for
PCI/VGA passthrough to work or if it will work anyway. I have read in
the VTdHowTo that trying to pass through hardware without the FLR
feature will result in an error. At the same time I read on a pdf
document on the VMWare website
(http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vsp_4_vmdirectpath_host.pdf)

qemu/kvm: support for pci passthrough
Hi,
I saw there was an active discussion about pci passthrough support in
KVM. I'm not a Dev, only a sys admin that need this support. As i saw
on the KVM home page that this feature is plan for 2H2008 in the
roadmap, I wondered if you already have a more precise time frame for
this release? Xen already have this feature but for the rest i prfer

problems with USB and PCI passthrough on Debian Lenny
Greetings,
I have Xen installation with all domains (dom0+domU) being Debian Lenny.
I''d like to pass my usb printer to one of those domU domains. I couldn''t
make usb passthrough to work, so I decided that I will pass the whole
usb controller to the domU. It didn''t worked either.
I have read tons of internet howtos only to find the solutions proposed

PCI Passthrough on Xen 3.3
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi everyone,
I am currently considering to upgrade my Ubuntu Hardy Dom0 from Xen
3.2 to 3.3, but I am a bit concerned about some of my DomUs that rely
on PCI Passthrough. Are there any restrictions or problems with PCI
Passthrough in Xen 3.3, anything I have to look out for, especially
with the Hardy Dom0 kernel in mind?
Thanks,
Paul.

Log/dump/trace HW access using PCI passthrough
Hello,
I''m trying to reverse-engineer a PCI sound card driver.
The card is assigned to a Xen HVM guest (Windows) using PCI passthrough, the
driver is installed and works. I had to compile Xen 4.2.3 from source as PCI
passthrough is broken in 4.1.4-3+deb7u1 present in Debian Wheezy.
Now I need to capture/log/dump/trace PIO and/or MMIO accesses that the driver
does to the assigned
