PERC 6/E -- empty

domU custom kernel: Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
Hello,
To compile a custom kernel, I downloaded 2.6.29.1 from kernel.org and
followed the tutorial at:
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Kernel.org_Linux_on_Xen
Used a supposedly working .config file for the compilation (generated by
my provider to compile his xenU kernels), set /dev/xvd* device nodes
both in the domU conf file (disk, root):
disk = [

what is difference between "slow initialize" and "patrol read" on RAID?
We have DELL server with MD1000 Disk array in it. O.S. is CENTOS 5.5. Recently every time MD1000 "patrol read" start I will get "media error" messages on /var/log/message file.
I use MD1000 "slow initialize" to initialize "bad disk" and NO error. After "slow initialize" finish, I manually "startup patrol read". I continue get

Mount and fstab problems with large devices?
I''m trying to get a new file server managed by puppet from day 1, at
least as much as possible. At the moment, though, there''s two issues I''m
running into:
1. fstab should have entries for my comically-large RAID, but doesn''t.
2. each puppet run appears to remount the RAID, even when no rules in
the manifest change.
I suspect the issue may be in parsing

blkfront: barrier: empty write op failed
I have some Xen systems running Xen-4.1.1, dom0 linux-2.6.38 patched (it''s gentoo''s xen-sources) and domUs running linux-3.0.4 (vanilla sources from kernel.org).
Block devices are phy on LVM2 volumes on DRBD-8.3.9 devices.
Not immediately after boot, but after some I/O load on the disks I start seeing these in the domUs:
blkfront: barrier: empty write xvdb1 op failed

problem adding second MD1000 enclosure to LSI 9200-16e
I have 15x SAS drives in a Dell MD1000 enclosure, attached to an LSI 9200-16e. This has been working well. The system is boothing off of internal drives, on a Dell SAS 6ir.
I just tried to add a second storage enclosure, with 15 more SAS drives, and I got a lockup during Loading Kernel. I got the same results, whether I daisy chained the enclosures, or plugged them both directly into the LSI

mkinitrd - dev/xvda1: Unknown root device
Hello,
I''ve installed XenExpress 3.2.
Within a DomU (Debian) I want to recompile the kernel. I installed the kernel-source
/kernel-xs-xen/kernel-2.6.16.38-xs3.2.0.531.3960.src.rpm from the XenServer-3.2.0-src1.iso.
The kernel and modules build well.
But:

/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: /dev/xvda1: Unknown

Holiday
I'm going to be out of contact from next week until the beginning of
March.
libguestfs and the virt tools will obviously keep going without me,
but I'm just sending this note to say that I have put mirrors for the
following git repositories up in case the primary git repo has any
problems.

Mount drbd/gfs logical volume from domU
Hi list,
I setup on 2 Xen Dom0s drbd/gfs a logical volume, this works as primary/primary so both DomUs will be able to write on them at the same time. But I dont know how to mount them from my domUs, I can see them with fdisk -l. The partition is /dev/xvdb1
SHould I install gfs on domUs and mount them on each as gfs partitions?

New DomU on older Dom0
Hi,
I have a Xen server running OpenSuSE 10.2, with Xen version 3.0.3_11774.
It''s happily hosting two DomU''s running the same OS / kernel.
Now I tried to create a new DomU running a newer OS - OpenSuSE 11.1. It
comes with Xen version 3.3.1_18494_03.
Unfortunately for me, it doesn''t work - this is what I get:
> xen1:/etc/xen/vm # xm create NEW

HW experience
Hi,
we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST
planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and
for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller
(Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ?
thanxs,

SAS/SATA DAS
I need to replace a slow HP MSA20 that's a bottleneck right now (We are an HP shop).
HP's only option with 3.5" SATA drives is stuck at SATA I behind a SAS controller.
Dell makes an MD1000 that claims SATA II speeds behind a SAS Perc 5/E (Don't know anything about dell).
Anyone got any real world info they can share? I need 3.5" SATA II at least 12 drives behind SAS,

Sorry I only included a small bit of the program in my original mail
because I found the use of "MOV" instructions to load constants
suspicious, is that normal ?
I've put a log with
