Docker versus Vagrant for reproducability - was: The case for freezing CRAN
Vagrant and packer look like the could be useful to developers, especially when testing, as they make it relatively painless to 'reinstall' a machine to a (mostly) known state. I find that, no matter how hard I try, there always seem to be a few keystrokes that don't make it into the changelog, and recreating from scratch is how I find them. Thanks for pointing them out. qemu reverse vnc connection
I was looking at vnc.c to see what would be involved in making a reverse VNC connection (vnc server connects to the client), and it looks possible but I also wondered if there was any reason why libvncserver couldn''t be used instead? Both qemu-dm and libvncserver appear to be licensed under GPL although I haven''t checked what version. I''ve never figured out whether

Maintain VNC session across reboots?
Hello, I have Ubuntu installed as a domU on the debian dom0, and connect via VNC in dom0. This is great for doing installs, and seeing the console output. However the VNC session doesn''t seem to keep the active connection during a domU reboot. Has anyone got this working? If so, how? -- John _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

how to list vnc port in xen 4.1
Hi all, I try xen 4.1, but in my domU''s HVM don''t appear vnc port. I used in my domU.cfg the parameter ''vncunused=1''. How to get vnc port specified domU? In another Xen (4.0.2), I get vnc port with ''xm list --long domU''. (vfb (vncunused 1) (vnc 1) (uuid cb20995f-55ae-55ce-143d-dd6a2ecc5969)

I/O request not ready: 0, ptr: 0, port: 0, data: 0, count: 0, size: 0 with VNC enabled
I have a headless CentOS 5.3 box running Xen 3.3.1. The DomU (domcont) is running off a DRBD device and the network bridge (br0) is running over a bonded ethernet link. All network interfaces are running fine and the DRBD devices replicate over their respective links. The DRBD device that I am trying to boot off is /dev/drbd1 and is set to Primary on the Dom0 that is running this DomU.

VNC connection to DomU got black screen
Hi all, I installed xen-3.3.1 and configured two DomU with 2.6.18.8-xen kernel. Now the DomU1 and DomU2 could work and the network is ok. But I used the filesystem image from jailtime, so the X-Window mode can''t work. Thus, I tried two ways to make the GUI-mode work: (1) yum install X-Window in Guest OS, and the GUI configuration Wizard shows up. When done with the configuration, the

domU video modes supported by VNC?
Hello, I have Ubuntu installed as a domU and can connect to it over VNC running in dom0. However I cannot increase the resolution above 800x600. I would really like 1024x786. In the Ubuntu guest it says there graphics card is a VESA compatible, and only has 600x400 and 800x600 screen resolutions. My domU config is shown below. I have stdvga=0 I searched the mailing lists, and it said stdvga=1

VNC access console of paravirtualised DomU
Hi, I''ve seen this asked a few times, but I just can''t work out whether I am misinterpreting how this is supposed to work, or if it is just broken in my setup. What I want is to be able to see the character cell console of DomU''s via VNC. As far as I understand, when I create/startup the DomU, then a vnc server should start listening on my Dom0. I have tried every

Xen VNC Hang
When I try to create a PV domU, the VM starts up and I can access it through "xm console <id>", but when I try to connect to it through VNC, the port just hangs. I''ve tried using RealVNC and TightVNC, and also tried on Linux and Windows. All that happens on the client is that it says that the connection has established, and hangs there. I''ve tried running

VNC not connecting
Hello all: I am trying to install CentOS 5.4 as a KVM guest. The host is running CentOS 5.4 and does not have X installed. I used ssh to connect to the host and ran this command (I formatted it for readability, it is all on one line): virt-install -n jamm12e -r 1024 --vcpus=1 --check-cpu --os-type=linux --os-variant=rhel5 --hvm --accelerate --cdrom=/tmp/CentOS-5.4-x86_64-netinstall.iso

Remote access to domU console using vnc
I have an FC6 dom0 running on a headless server. I want to install a CentOS 4.4 domU with a console accessed using vnc from a remote machine. I *think* I should be able to do this from my understanding of the documentation. I''ve configured a domU to boot from an ISO image to do the CentOS install and run xm create. netstat on dom0 shows there''s a listener on 0.0.0.0:5900, but

fc6 guest x server / vnc problems
I''ve succesfully installed FC6 domU under RHEL5-beta2 dom0 with virt-manager. I could open a graphical vnc console from virt-manager with no probs and use domU''s gnome desktop. After few days of running the guest I''ve updated it with yum and been using it mostly via xm console. Now I tried to use the graphical console, but all virt-manager was telling me was: "The

Pin HVM domU to a particular VNC port?
Hi all, I''ve read several messages on this list implying that one can pin the VNC display of an HVM domU to a particular VNC display number. However, I can''t find a description of how one does this. Does anyone know? Thanks, Adam _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hello, Is it required to install an additional VNC server on XCP 1.1.0 dom0 box (ip 192.168.1.50)to get access to VNC-windows for installing domU guests? Is the VNC setting available for non-hvm DomU''s?
I have been scouring this list''s archives and have consumed any and all how-to guides I could find but am still unsure. All discussion in this list on this issue is around hvm/vti DomU''s. Has anyone been able to attach a vnc client to a vanilla (non-hvm) DomU using the VNC console setting? On an FC5 (2.6.16-1.2080_FC5xen0) kernel deployed on vanilla (non-hvm) hardware,
