xen 3.2.1 - How to boot ISO image
Hi All,
I have working CentOS xen guest (domU) inside in Debian xen domain (dom0)
and here is the domU''s config file
<http://fpaste.org/paste/7295>.
How could I put the proper syntax inside of domU''s config to instruct the
domU to boot the
/data/CentOS-5.1-i386-bin-DVD.iso during starting of domU?
BTW, I am using xen-3.2-1.
Thanks,
James

xvda vs lvm
Hi, I''m just wondering if there are any speed or stability differences
between running a system directly of a LVM partition versus a xvd partition?
Basicly:
disk = [ ''phy:/dev/LVM/root,xvda,w'', ]
vs
disk= [ ''phy:LVM/root,hda1,w'',]
Any tips? I tried searching the archives but I didn''t find anything.
Kind regards,
Tarjei

[PATCH] pygrub: Support (/dev/xvda) style disk specifications
You get these if you install Debian Wheezy as HVM and then try to convert to
PV.
This is Debian bug #603391.

xen_emul_unplug on xen 4.1, HVM guest 2.6.38
I am running Xen 4 and want users to be able to install arbitrary HVM
images. We want both PV and emulated drivers to appear. The reason
for this is for compatibility with images that were prepared for
Xen 3.3, which assume emulated devices exist at boot time (particularly
for running the boot loader).
If I do not specify on the boot line xen_emul_unplug=never, then
under some guest OS''s

RFH: loopback & blktap(2) and CDROM
Hello,
I''m currently trying to understand some problems I had in the past with mixing
look-back with blktap(2) for HV and PV domains. I''m stuck reading the source
code, so I''d like to get some help from the list. Interrupt me if I got
something fundamentally wrong in my understanding so far:
1. With pure-HV the domU gets an emulated IDE (or whatever) disk. The

Xen guest''s GUI to display in VNC
Hi,
I''m running CentOS guest domU under Debian dom0. I''m planning to install
Xorg to run GUI in CentOS guest for testing only.
How could I tell the CentOS guest domU to display the GUI in my VNC client
in which I''m remoting from outside on internet? Let say I''m connecting from
my home to the xen guest located in office.
Hope someone could help me on this.

Is XVD live resize possible?
Hi!
Say I export an LVM logical volume from dom0 as /dev/xvda to the domU:
disk = [ ''phy:xenimages/stan,xvda,w'' ]
No I can lvresize xenimages/stan in dom0, but the domU stays ignorant
of this change. How could I propagate the resize to the domU without
rebooting or temporarily breaking its connection to /dev/xvda? Sort
of a SCSI rescan, perhaps?

virtual gigabit
Is there anyway to get gigabit networking for a fully virtualized
guest? I''ve tried searching for this one, but all I get are results
about gigabit networking for the host / dom0, nothing for domU.
Thanks,
Gordon

[PATCH] Support for official xvd major number
LANANA has officially assigned the block major of 202 for xvd devices
(http://www.lanana.org/docs/device-list/devices-2.6+.txt). Take
advantage of knowing this so people don''t have to do the mknod on their
system. Also, fix up the scsi regex to get sda correct without having
to do hacks like sda0.

ionice and blkback
Hi Everyone,
When you want to use ionice to limit the amount of disk a DomU has, due
to have to run ionice on every blkback process?
Incidently, what is the format of the blkback process? I see the
following in ps aux:
blkback.xx.xvda
blkback.xx.xvda1
blkback.xx.xvd
where xx appears to be the domain ID. I''m curious as to the last few
letters mean?
Thanks

Bug#603391: Workaround PyGrub issue
Confirmed this issue. To reproduce: Install a fresh Wheezy AMD64 guest
under Xen 4.1 (hypervirtualized, boot from the
debian-7.1.0-amd64-CD-1.iso). Use "entire disk" automatic layout for
partitioning, this creates /dev/xvda1 for / and /dev/xvda5 for swap.
It will create /boot/grub/grub.cfg with many references to
(/dev/xvda,msdos1) which works fine when the machine is booted

LVM + kickstart -> dom0 && domUs
centos-virt,
I'm trying to create/install domU guests all in "one" step, following
Daniel's wiki page (I've found these pages really helpful, BTW):
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU
I have a few questions about this process:
(1) How would it be modified (w/respect to defining the disk in the
domain configuration file) to use a disk layout where dom0

Hello list. My server:
Gentoo 2.6.21-xen dom0
xen-tools 3.2.1

Symptoms: normally I run 4 domUs. About once a week I have a need to

not and I''ll get a message back saying "Error: Device 0 (vif) could not

Xen 4.x / Linux 3.x (dom0 and HVM domU) and NIC handling
Moving to public discussion...
This was found with Xen hypervisor version supporting device unplugging and the
domU kernel having net-/blkfront and pci platform built-in (or as module).
The block device is defined as hda and the NIC type=ioemu (so theoretically
guests without pv support would work, too).
Since both drivers are present, the kernel tries to unplug the emulated devices
and
