backgroundrb.yml not generated
I''m trying to do the tutorial at http://www.infoq.com/articles/BackgrounDRb. A little more than half-way through it says "Upon instalation, the plugin writes a config file into RAILS_ROOT/config/backgroundrb.yml." It didn''t happen for me.
I installed the plugin with:
ruby script\plugin install svn:\\rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb
It added a bunch of files,

A newbie question regarding BackgroundRb
Hi all,
I just read Ezra''s article on BackgroundRb and decided to use it one
of my projects. I installed the plugin into my rails project using
script/plugin and then ran rake backgroundrb:setup to copy the yml
scripts.
Now my backgroundrb.yml looks like

indexing in a function doesn't work?
Hello,
I've written a small function that's supposed to save me some time, and
it's ending up killing it- the intention is to iteratively subset a dataset
fram on framevec, fit a model (either lm or nls depending on type) and
return the r2 or AIC from the model, respectively. Although as far as I can
tell in my code the plots are dependent on the fit of the model to the data

Question about acls
Hi,
I''m not much of a developer but I''ve been using backgroundrb for a
while now and with the release of 0.2.1 it looks like I can finally
upgrade from the old version (0.2.0 had some weird issues when jobs
just wouldn''t run, seems to have cleared up now - Thanks!).
Anyhow, while I''m doing this, I would like to tackle this problem.
Most tasks I run in

Specifying environment in backgroundrb.yml
It seems that regardless of what environment I specify in my
backgroundrb.yml file, it always uses development mode unless I pass
"-e production" to the "script/backgroundrb start" command.

loading the config file it assigns whatever was passed on the command
line (which defaults to development if nothing is

Tasks get executed twice with repeat_every
I have a simple worker that I set up with repeat_every:
class DueNoteQueuerWorker < BackgrounDRb::Rails
repeat_every 1.minutes
first_run Time.now
def do_work(args)
@logger.debug("Sending due notes. The current time is #{Time.now}")
end
end
I want this to run every minute, all the time. The first run is fine,
but it seems that subsequent runs get executed

uninitialized constants in worker class
I am new to this list and relatively new to the backgroundrb plugin,. So
first i will say hello to everybody here, especially to Ezra
Zygmuntowicz!
I played a little bit with a dummy worker and so far everything worked
well.
But now i want to do real work in a worker but now i get that error[1].
It looks like that the constants configured in environment* configs are
not available to the worker

strange issue with backgroundrb behind apache/lighttpd
I''m getting strange data back from my worker whenever I run our rails
app with more than one dispatcher under lighttpd.
just to give some info on what the app does:
user submits data to rails app. rails app hands off data to worker,
which goes and does it''s thing, storing results in an array of
response objects (the array is an attribute of the worker). the
response object

Cannot start workers in production mode
I have a job that I am starting from a Rails controller in production mode
using MiddleMan:
MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :import_ccg_category_worker, :args => {
:category_id => @category.id, :remote_category_id =>
params[:remote_category_id], :description => "Importing CCG products for #{@
category.name}" })
Both of the category ID variables are just basic integers. I

Trouble on Multi Server setup
Hello all,
I''m having some trouble getting backgroundrb set up so that all the
processing happens on a single machine. I have 3 load balanced
machines. Right now, all three run our web application and create
MiddleMan workers to generate a large PDF report.
However, because of the processing power needed to generate the PDFs,
I want to change our setup so that two servers run

Mutex::Synchronize with backgroundrb
I have a question concerning where to use the synchronize function. The
point of it is to put all of the code blacks passed to this function in
a queue. This make sure that code gets ran one at a time. This is
required when doing any kind of database activity in backgrondrb and
multiple threads. Otherwise I lose the connection to my database.
So here is my question:
Do I need to do:

BackgrounDRb New release.
Howdy Folks-
I''m happy to announce a new release of BackgrounDRb! I have added
quite a few new features and included some nice patches from folks on
the list.
$ script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb
All of the code now stays within the plugin and the start and stop
scripts are now just stubs. This makes it easier to tweak or figure
out how it works.

Scheduled worker dies after about 30-45 runs
I have a scheduled worker that runs every minute, checking for new eBay
auctions to post. If it finds an auction, then it posts it. If there are no
auctions in the database that are queued up, it simply does nothing. I got
the worker to finally run as a scheduled worker, every minute. However,
after about 30-45 scheduled runs, it simply stops running.
My backgroundrb_schedules.yml file:

Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB
Hello,
when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5
everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or
2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with
windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5).
I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the
reason.

rails environment loaded but one plugin is undefined (using backgroundrb 0.2.0)
Hello all,
I''m using BackgroundRb 0.2.0 (standalone) and in the do_work method of
my worker, I''m working with objects from my Rails application. So in my
config/backgroundrb.yml file, I added this line:
:load_rails: true
I think my worker isn''t doing what I want him to do. So I opened the
console and read these error lines:

Very strange after_save problem. Please help.
I have a very strange problem here. I do not get this. So any help is
greatly appreciated.
Basically I have a model that calls a method in the background
process in the "after_save" method. Let''s call the model products. So
what happens is this:
1. I create a new product.
2. Everything works and the product is saved with id 13.
3. A method is called in my background

after_fork - ActiveRecord::AdapterNotSpecified

I''m fighting with the after_fork hook and my sinatra application. The Sinatra app is using active_record,
In my unciron.rb file I''m using
preload_app true
after_fork do |server, worker|
? defined?(ActiveRecord::Base) and
??? ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection
End
but I always get the error:
