[Semi OT] BlindDown and a floated div
I am using the drop shadow technique described at
http://www.1976design.com/blog/archive/2003/11/14/shadows/ to give
several of my divs drop shadows. That part works fine.
What doesn''t work so well is when I try to BlindDown a div in Firefox
and it ends up ignoring the content below it and just overlapping it.
In IE this problem does not occur. In Firefox the overlapping does

Validation error_messages_for problem
I am having trouble getting error_messages_for to work.

Prototype error. replace content inside a <TR> in IE
Does anyone know of a fix for the issue with prototype and replacing
table rows in IE?
render :update do |page|
page.replace "row_#{params[:id]}", :partial =>
''wireless_request/wrequest'', :locals => {:wrequest => @wrequest}
end
This ends up making IE throw an "rjs error [object error]"

Don''t un-admin the last administrator
I have a User class with a field called admin which is a boolean that
determines if the user is or is not an administrator. I want to make it
impossible for the last administrator for an account to be removed from
the system.
I need to protect against this both when deleting a user and when
editing a user as you can revoke a user''s administrator privileges via a
form.

Which Payment Gateway?
I am working on an application where users sign up for one of several
plans. Each plan has a different monthly fee. There is no long term
contract but I would like to bill the users automatically each month
unless service is canceled.
What credit card gateways would you recommend for use with a rails
application?
My criteria in order of importance are

Scalable alternative to #find_all
Is there any scalable alternative to iterating all the records of a
certain model? #find_all seems to load everything into memory. With
500.000 records it will be a swap storm.

Keeping attributes of two models in sync
Hi,
I have a Product and a corresponding Keyword (1:1 via belongs_to and
has_one). I want to ensure, that two attributes (:name) of the two
models alway stay in sync. What''s the easiest way to accomplish that?
I did play around with before_/after_save hooks and with
AR::Observers but in the end I''d always get infinite recursion...
Thanks,
Timo

Process safe log files with multiple mongrels
I have a rails application that runs on multiple mongrels and I would
like to make the log files non-interlacing. Are there any logging
modifications/other loggers out there that I could use to create
process safe logging?
Thank you,

join fields for list views
I am sitting with the Agile book on my desk and scratching my head at
the discussion on aggregation - perhaps that isn''t what I need.
I have a db called clients.
fields include - first_name middle_initial last_name
I want to combine them all into one name element in a list view. I can
add/edit the fields separately but in the list view, I only want the one
combo field.
Is there a

Login form question
I''m using Rails Recipes to create a login form but instead of username
and password, my setup is firstname, lastname, password.
I seemed to be gramatically challenged and not sure how to set up the
parameter list. Can anyone offer up a suggestion.
The book shows the method starting like:
if request.post?
user = User.find(:first, :conditions => [''username = ?'' ,

aaf and dynamic attrs: a bug?
Hi!
I faced some issue while using it for dynamic attrs indexing/search.
Maybe I made something wrong. Here is test method. Everything works just
fine until last line http://pastie.caboo.se/66274 . Tested on both
stable and trunk of aaf and ferret 0.11.4.

I have the text_field_with_auto_complete woking on my user DB using

Behavior of first_or_create
I just ran across a weird glitch (IMHO) in find_or_create. The arguments passed to it are *not* added to the conditions for the ''first'' part. This is odd, given that it''s intended to replace find_or_create_by_* methods, which *did* use the specified values as conditions.
I''m unsure on whether this behavior is entirely undesirable, but it''s definitely

Simple Ferret Questions
I am trying to use Ferret for searching for users based on first and last name.
In my index, I am adding the first_name, last_name, and a full_name
which is basically "#{first_name} #{last_name}".
I am searching the index using something like the following query:
INDEX.search_each(%Q/first_name:#{query}* OR last_name:#{query}* OR
full_name:#{query}*/) do |doc, score|

refactoring commonly used aggregations
I have a number of models that use an aggregation to combine First Name,

looking to clean this up, DRY it if possible.
I have things like this in application.rb
class Clwholename

def initialize(first_name, middle_initial, last_name)

bilingual site: exclude fields set from query
Hi all,
Is there a way to have searches no use some indexed fields, when
processing a query?
context:
I have a model Foo that holds some information in two languages :
- text1_nl, text2_nl, text3_nl
and
- text1_en, text2_en, text3_en
Some other fields are common to both languages and indexed as well
- first_name, last_name
Depending on the visitor language choice I need to exclude the
