TFTP & Network after booting kernel
Hello all, We are trying to make our own NFSroot via PXELINUX without the e1000 ethernet module compiled into the kernel. All works fine, we have a ramdisk that can setup networking from information provided by $ip, however I would like to download the specific e1000.o via tftp before inserting it into to the kernel. Since ramdisks are static I rather not have the situation where we have to

PXE-Kernel crashes with "RAMDISK: incomplete write ..." after modifiying initrd.img
Hi, to install current PC models (with new Intel NICs) via Kickstart/PXE, I wanted to add the newest e1000e-Treiber to initrd.img. With this modified image, the Kickstart kernel crashes with the following error messages: [...] md: Autodetecting RAID arrays. md: autorun ... md: ... autorun DONE. RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0 RAMDISK: incomplete write (20480 != 32768) 6062080

Query regarding initramfs
Hi 1. Is it possible to load an initrd from initramfs ? How would you do this if the initramfs is being loaded dynamically in the kernel (ie having the initramfs as initrd ) Because in this case, you will say root = /dev/initrd and specify 'initrd' as your 'initramfs source file' How will you specify the second initrd source? Thanks Rachita.

Newbie Question
Hello, I'm attempting to convert some of my existing initrd images to the new initramfs format. However, I have some questions as too what exactly /init in a iniramfs system is responsible for? My current images probe/configure devices using devfs and libkudzu (basically, the same as knoppix detection setup) and create a tmpramfs root for use with pivot_root. However, looking thru

[DOC] Update item on FAQ
It''s not quite clear how to go about this so hopefully whoever maintains the FAQ is on this list. As part of closing bug #156, it would be nice to add a sentence on item 4.8 (The initrd that came with my distro does not...) to include the following sentences: "Some distros (notably SLES9) have a mkinitrd that adds garbage to the end of the initrd. These initrds will not work

pb with 2.5.x and ramdisk?
Hello, I have a problem with a 2.5.62 kernel and ramdisk. I am using isolinux to create a cd that loads some of its partition in ramdisk. The script involves mounting a ramdisk (e2fs) on /fake/ramdisk, copying part of the cd to that mount point, unmounting it, and remounting it on /fake/needwrite. The problem is that, although the content of /fake/needwrite gets correctly copied, the content of

Using ramdisks on CentOS
I'm running the 2.6 xen kernel on CentOS 5.3. My goal is to use larger-than-normal ramdisks. I can see that the rd module is statically compiled into this kernel, so I tried passing the option ramdisk_size=262144 during boot, but dmesg shows that it gets reset to 16384K. I can also see that this is the size stipulated in the kernel config. Do I have to rebuild the kernel to make this work? If

Dropdown with concatenated columns.
What is the best way to create a drop down where the viewable text in a concatenation of 2 or more columns? For instance, I hane a lookup table with these columns. Model FOO columns: id , name, phone In my drop select tag, I''d like the user to see: "name1 phone1" "name2 phone2" etc.. I know I can do this using find_by_sql . .. But, isn''t there a more

concatenating two vectors
Dear all, I want to concatenate the elements of two vectors such as a<-c("a1","a2") b<-c("b1","b2") and obtain "a1b1", "a1b2","a2b1","a2b2" I tried the paste and paste0 functions, but they yielded elementwise concatenation such as "a1b1","a2b2" I am wondering that is there an efficient

initramfs scripts and other stuff
Hi, The attached patch is an update to the latest klibc (I just checked a few bits into CVS) which adds support for initramfs. Since it contains bits that aren't available yet on the main site, I've also put a tarball up which contains only what's in the latest CVS. The initramfs stuff is what I use here to boot one of my machines; it works for me, but probably won't work

concatenate ogg/theora files
Hi, I have multiple ogg/theora files, with different bitrate. That is the big problem, because I want to broadcast them using ezstream/icecast and the connection between ezstream and icecast is always lost when switching between files. They have the same resolution but different quality. Is there a tool to concatenate/normalize several files to a big homogeneous one? -- A powerfull GroupWare,

initramfs scripts + cpio archive stuff
--32u276st3Jlj2kUU Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Hi all (two) klibc hackers! 8) Here's the stuff I've been using to build an initramfs image and run it on one of my machines. Unfortunately, the "init" script contains hard coded information about where to find the root, etc, but it should give people a working base to start from. It

[PATCH 0/2] v2v: uninstall VMware tools on all Linux guests
Hi, this patch series attempt to uninstall VMware tools on all the Linux guests, and reduce the uninstallation time needed in some cases: - v2v tries to workaround the slowest part of the tarball-installed VMware tools - v2v uninstalls the open source VMware tools (open-vm-tools) Thanks, Pino Toscano (2): v2v: linux: remove open-vm-tools packages v2v: linux: try to trick

schily tools
Hey folks, I'm reading up on gtar for tape archiving and it sounds kind of nasty and not something I really want to rely on. It looks like star from the schily tools is preferred. I'm using Centos (and RHEL) 5.7 which seems to have star but not sdd. Which leads me to believe that the Schily tools are maybe a bit "rogue" My basic requirement with what I'm doing is to use

Expected performance for WORM scenario
Heya fellas. I've been struggling quite a lot to get glusterfs to perform even halfdecently with a write-intensive workload. Testnumbers are from gluster 3.10.7. We store a bunch of small files in a doubly-tiered sha1 hash fanout directory structure. The directories themselves aren't overly full. Most of the data we write to gluster is "write once, read probably never", so 99%

Gapless concatenation of Opus frames
Hi! Short version of my question: How to produce Opus frames which can be safely concatenated and how to embed them into a WebM file? Long version: I'm currently implementing a web-based audio player which streams audio as opus/WebM using the HTML5 media source extensions. Currently, the server decodes a set of input files to a fixed RAW audio format (stereo, 48000 kHz) and encodes the

Concatenating DWARF location expressions
Hello, Could someone explain to me what the rules are for concatenation of DWARF location expressions? For example in lib/CodeGen/PrologEpilogInserter.cpp there is a call to DIExpression::prepend to concatenate the stack slot address of a variable to an existing expression. Now the problem here is that the former is a 'Memory location description' while the latter could very well be a

Isolinux 4.02
I am running isolinux 4.02 and ramdisk_size does not seem to have an effect on the ramdisk size. No matter what I set it to in the isolinux.cfg file it seems the limit is 32768. I get the error: ram0: rw=0, want=360456, limit=32768 EXT2-fs error (device ram0): My isolinux.cfg file: LABEL EB KERNEL vmlinuxE APPEND initrd=bos.img root=/dev/ram0 rw ramdisk_size=545000 I am running the 2.6.38.2
