formatted date down-counter - help!
I''d like to have a count down to a certain date, but display it in words, such as "123 days away" or something. I''m aware of the function "distance_of_time_in_words_to_now()", which will display "about 6 hours" or "12 days" or something like that, but how can I get it to reverse? Pass it a date for future reference, then it will error

helper spec not finding rails core helpers
Hi, My helper specs were going ok until I added a call to a rails DateHelper method in one of my helpers http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActionView/Helpers/ DateHelper.html#M000574 The helper runs fine from my view templates, just dies in the spec test. I boiled my question down to a simple (not too useful) example. I''m not sure what I''m missing. #

Simple Ruby/Rails question, doing posted hours ago
I am not the Ruby aficionado yet, if I have created_on ...timestamp. What is a ruby way of getting the hours/minutes/seconds ago. is there some class that has this implemented. For example: Posted on 3/28/2006 Show a time with: posted: 1 day ago ... something along those lines. -- Berlin Brown (ramaza3 on freenode) http://www.newspiritcompany.com also checkout alpha version of botverse:

distance_of_time_in_words_to_now
Hi There, As I have learned the hard way, let me discuss my question, idea or feature here before doing actual work on it... distance_of_time_in_words_to_now() seems to be unable to tell if this distance is in the future or in the past. I''d really like to see ''in 5 days'' or ''5 days ago'' depending on, well, if it was 5 days ago or will be in 5

time_zone_select :priority_zones not working properly
I sent this earlier but I don''t think it ever came through. Sorry if this is a reposting. When using :priority_zones for time_zone_select in a manner described by the API docs for ActionView::Helpers::FormOptionsHelper I''m getting errors. Here is an API docs example: time_zone_select( "user", ''time_zone'', TimeZone.us_zones, :default =>

i18n friendly, plugable Rails Core
In my work with a simple localization plugin, i''m running into a lot of places in the Rails core, where text and other localization specific information is hardcoded. I''ve included some examples in the bottom of this post. It''s hard for an outsider to know, if the hardcoded values are a result of inconsistency in code, or "by design". I hope that we can have

Distance of time in days
In rails 3 there is distance_of_time_in_words which works fine, but I would like to tweak its output a bit. The thing is that if the dates are exactly the same it will say "Less Than a Minute" I would like it to show "Today" instead. Is that possible? nice date function
Hi: you know the way the google and this forum presents dates? How it''s measure from the current date/time and presents nicely as "39 minutes ago", 2 days ago, etc.? Has anyone done a gem or other library object that I can get to do those types of dates? Thanks so much in advance! Mike -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Overriding date_select in local project to use custom value rather than blank for starting option...
I would like to have a date control on a page and I would like a behavior similar to what you get using date_select with the :include_blank => true option where the first value in the dropdown is "- Month -", "- Day -", or "- Year -" rather than a blank value for the respective month, day, and year select fields. I took a look at the ruby source for

flickr like DST timezone management
Hello everyone I wonder if anyone can point me to the library for timezone management with DST support, which has timezones, like flickr has. I know that there is TZInfo, but it''s a bit different for it has huge list of available timezones in ''Continent/City'' format. I would like my application to have timezones list more like on flickr (or windows regional settings) -
