Physical disks + Software Raid + lvm in domU
Hi, I''m trying to setup my box as described below: - The Dom0 exports two disks as physical devices to the DomU - DomU use the two devices to assemble a software raid device (/dev/md0) - On the /dev/md0 I create a lvm volume group and lvm volumes on it. Everything seems to work fine if the lvm volumes on the DomU are lightly used. Under heavy load the DomU freeze up immediately. The

Moving from RAID 0 to LVM RAID?
So I've learned a valuable RAID 0 lesson, and it fortunately was not a major catastrophy. I got lucky, and had a workable-enough backup on tape to make the user who needed some data happy. Now, from the OS side, LVM is an option. Say the RAID controller only allows hardware striping or mirroring for logical volumes, but I want to use more than two disks, and I don't want the RAID 0

Hosed my software RAID/LVM setup somehow
CentOS 5, original kernel (xen and normal) and everything, Linux RAID 1. I rebooted one of my machines after doing some changes to RAID/LVM and now the two RAID partitions that I made changes to are "gone". I cannot boot into the system. On bootup it tells me that the devices md2 and md3 are busy or mounted and drops me to the repair shell. When I run fs check manually it just tells

Advice on setting up Raid and LVM
Hi all, I'm setting up Centos4.2 on 2x80GB SATA drives. The partition scheme is like this: /boot = 300MB / = 9.2GB /home = 70GB swap = 500MB The RAID is RAID 1. md0 = 300MB = /boot md1 = 9.2GB = LVM md2 = 70GB = LVM md3 = 500MB = LVM Now, the confusing part is: 1. When creating VolGroup00, should I include all PV (md1, md2, md3)? Then create the LV. 2. When setting up RAID 1, should I

Using LVM to implement RAID
Hi all! I've recently noticed that recent versions of LVM include RAID capabilities, so that one could presumably implement (e.g.) RAID-1 without having to use Linux Software RAID. Given the complexity of LBM, I'm wondering how practical and how safe this is (compared to Linux Software RAID), and also if anyone here knows more about it than I do (which isn't much), and especially if

RAID + LVM Addition to CentOS 5 Install
Hi All, I have what I believe to be a pretty basic LVM & RAID setup on my CentOS 5 machine: Raid Partitions: /dev/sda1,sdb1 /dev/sda2,sdb2 /dev/sda3,sdb3 During the install I created a RAID 1 volume md0 out of sda1,sdb1 for the boot partition and then added sda2,sdb2 to a separate RAID 1 volume as well (md1). I then setup md1 as a LVM physical volume for volume group 'system'. I

Advice on CentOS 7, software raid 1, lvm, 3 TB disks
Greetings - I am preparing to order a new desktop system for work. In general the new system will be a Dell Precision T3610 with two 3 TB drives. I plan on installing CentOS 7 as a KVM host, with virtual machines for Win 7 Pro and Linux Mint. I am looking for some advice or a good how-to on configuring software raid on the two drives, then using LVM for the host and virtual machines. I

CentOS 6, Raid 1, and LVM
I'm in the process of rebuilding one of my machines and I've been using Raid 1 with LVM on a CentOS 5 OS. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to move to CentOS 6. However, I can't seem to locate and on the instructions/tutorials that show how to duplicate my Raid 1 LVM environment running CentOS 6. I saw the 'Partionable Raid 1 on CentOS 5 and 6', but it stopped

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
Hello fellow xenophiles and happy new year! I''ve documented the install procedure for a prototype server here since I found no similar document Anywhere on the net. It''s a Sarge-based Domain0 on linux root raid from scratch, using LVM to store the data for the domU mail server and its mailstore. I humbly submit my notes in the hope that they are useful to some weary traveller.

Installing on LVM on SW-RAID
Hello list, I'm trying to install CentOS 5.2 on LVM on a SW-RAID level 1, but I'm unable to understand how to use the installer correctly. What I'm trying to do is emulate something I've already done with another distro where: sda5 \ RAID1 --> /boot sdb5 / sda6 \ RAID1 --> LVM --> /root, /home, /usr, /var... etc. sdb6 / I've succesfully

Software RAID + LVM + Grub
I'm playing with software RAID and LVM in some virtual machines and I've run into an issue that I can't find a good answer to in the docs. I have the following RAID setup: md0: sda1 and sdb1, RAID 1. This is /boot md1: sda2 and sdb2, RAID 1. This is a PV for LVM. VolGroup00, this is the volume group and md1 is the only PV in it. LogVol00 is swap LogVol01 is / LogVol02 is /home

anaconda, kickstart, lvm over raid, logvol --grow, centos7 mystery
I am testing some kickstarts on ESXi virtual machine with pair of 16GB disks. Partitioning is lvm over raid. If i am using "logvol --grow i get "ValueError: not enough free space in volume group" Only workaround i can find is to add --maxsize=XXX where XXX is at least 640MB less than available. (10 extents or 320Mb per created logical volume) Following snippet is failing with

Problem getting lvm to work
Hi, I have problems getting lvm to work on my domU. The dom0 is a CentOS 5 installed on lvm. I''ve added two extra lv, one for root and one for swap. [root@surr log]# lvscan ACTIVE ''/dev/VolGroup00/dom0vol'' [3.91 GB] inherit ACTIVE ''/dev/VolGroup00/dom0swap'' [1.94 GB] inherit ACTIVE

slow read IO in domU
Hi, I think I must''ve done something incorrectly, but I can''t quite figure out what it is. To compare disk I/O performance in dom0 and domU, I ran the following two dd lines and observed vmstat 1 results (for blocks read/written per second), dd''s reported speed, etc. both dom0 and domU are allocated 512MB of RAM, so reading the 1GB file should not benefit from

Help with software raid + LVM on Centos 6
Hi all, Please excuse the many posts. Wondering if any one can help me with the the setup. I have 2x2TBdisks. I would like to mirror them. I would like to create two LVMs so that I can snap shot from one to the other. During Centos 6 install, how would I go about this as its confusing? So far I am here; 1) Created the following raid devices; md0 500MB (use it for /boot) md1 4000MB (use it

RAID-1 strategy for a CentOS/Xen server?
Hi, I'm planning to migrate my current server configuration: AMD Athlon/X2 FreeBSD 62-Release 2 x 250GB HW RAID1 (all partitions RAIDed, incl. swap) to a Xen/CentOS config: AMD Athlon/X2 Dom0 CentOS 51 Xen 31 Dom1/1 FreeBSD 7 Dom1/2 CentOS 51 ... To "best preserve" RAID1 mirroring protections of OS, Data, etc

Questions about software RAID, LVM.
I am planning to increase the disk space on my desktop system. It is running CentOS 5.9 w/XEN. I have two 160Gig 2.5" laptop (2.5") SATA drives in two slots of a 4-slot hot swap bay configured like this: Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End

RAID-5/LVM/ext3
Hello: We trying to configure one machine (Compaq Proliant ML760) with 8 disks (72GB each disk) with RAID. We are thinking to use ext3 and LVM in RedHat 7.2 for manage one filesystem with 500GB. This filesystems have to store near off 5.000.000 of files. Is this possible? Could I resize the filesystems/volume to 1TB? what are the ext3 and LVM limits? someone have tested sismilar environment? Proper partition/LVM growth after RAID migration
Hi This topic is perhaps not for this list, but it I'm running on a CentOS 4.4 and it seems that a lot of people here uses 3Ware and RAID volumes. I did a RAID migration on a 3Ware 9590SE-12, so that an exported disk grew from 700GB to 1400GB. The exported disk is managed by LVM. The problem now is that I don't really know what to do now to let LVM and my locigal volume to make use of
